Mav forgets. He forgets where he put his keys, or his jacket. Small things, but then he forgot dates, scheduled appointments, and it really makes Ice cold when his husband one morning asks where Bradley is. Bradley left their home over a decade ago, this sends Mav spiraling. What was happening??

Alzheimers is the doctors diagnosis, early-onset since Mav isn't even 60 yet. Ice is devastated, as well as Mav when he has moments of clarity. Soon Mav starts asking about Goose, Ice doesn't know how to tell his husband that his best friend died nearly 36 years ago... but one thing he never forgot, his beloved husband Tom. The one thing this awful disease cant take from Mav is all the memories he shared with Ice.

A special detachment is assembled to carry out a dangerous and complex mission. His sister Sarah has agreed to stay and help with Mav, while he doesn't remember Sarah as his sister-in-law, he is comfortable around her, like something deep down really knows and trsuts her. Ice goes over the mission canidates, low and behold who is in consideration, Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Ice has never sighed so heavily.

To shorten this up, Bradley is all bent out of shape with Ice being there, thinking Maverick sent Ice to spy on him, to assess his worthiness. Ice tries to keep it professional until Bradley explodes on Ice, demanding to know if Maverick put him up to this. Ice cant take it. Yes. What Mav did wasn't good and Bradley had a right to be angry, but Bradley didn't know about Mav currently and Ice let's him have it. Bradley is shocked and with a mix of angry and devasted tears in his eyes. Before either can speak, Warlock comes into the room... Mav was taken to the hospital.

probably won't change anything much from there. or maybe the longer they play against ice and slider the chiller mav and him get and maybe hop 31 would end differently cause mav knows to wait it out and ice knows when to take the shot and then they're gonna get that lock on Jester and they're still gonna be neck to neck for the plaque but it's all in good fun now.

and bradley gets to have both his parents and his uncle mav and sometimes other Top Gun uncles and later in the years, uncle ice comes along with uncle mav and bradley grows up into almost the same adult but a little more cocky, a little more dangerous, but he's got his head on straight. and when he gets recalled to Top Gun, it's a dream come true to see this place again and touch things his uncles had before and walk down that tarmac thinking about the stories.

now if only his uncle mav would stop egging on the rest of them because bradley is This Close to putting Hangman in his place and fuck why is uncle mav laughing at him and threatening to call uncle ice? its not like he purposely flew below hard deck to impress a fellow pilot or anything jfc it was an accident 🙄 no wait don't tell mom.

when ice and mav get together, Maverick is unsure of himself. He’s so used to being passionate and heavy handed but that’s just not ice’s style. slowly, so so slowly ice teaches him the beauty of knowing someone so completely and how intimate the smallest gestures can be. he doesn’t have to touch ice to know him, doesn’t have to devour him whole to keep him close. years go by and people wonder if they’re even together anymore but those closest to them sees the way ice hesitates on a page of the newspaper too long so maverick can read it too, and how mav peels oranges for ice without being asked because ice hates the way it makes his hands sticky. Ice teaches maverick that to be loved is to be known and it’s the most intimate he’s ever been with someone

After, after, they gave his name to a carrier. The Navy never received so many votes for a single name, but she is brand new, shiny, and bigger than the other carrier. They say it is a she, but they call it USS Thomas J. Kazansky because no other name would fit.

Slider serves on in it the his last few years before retirement, Bradley is there more than he's not and Mav doesn't want to hear that name, see it or even imagine what it looks like. Sarah goes to the launch, and Mav spends the night hugging Tom's pillow and desperately trying to remember the feeling of his husband's arms around him.

This is how you know I have spent a lot of time watching Chicago Fire. I notice Kelly wears his lieutenant shirt not tucked in and without a undershirt. Herman wears his tucked in but without a undershirt. Casey wore his tucked in and with a undershirt

This is actually such a great point and says a lot how each of them are as officers/people in general!

Kelly also almost always has his boots untied and the laces not even tucked in, he wears them very loose and I know that’s probably so he can slip them off easily to put on his bunker gear but that combined with his untucked shirt really adds to his casual, not giving too much of a crap about the vibe. Kelly cares about his job of course but he’s not too interested in the ranks, I mean if he really was he would be a Captain by now. We all know he’s qualified for the promotion, he’s just not too interested in it.

Whereas Casey on the other hand is always very tidy, his boots are never loose, his uniform always looks professional and he keeps his office very decluttered despite the extra paperwork that comes with being a Captain. He honors the rank and can almost be solider like at times.

Hermann is inbetween them both. He’s all about the professionalism especially since he worked so long and hard for his rank but he’s also a bit more causal than Casey. He’s a huge goofball too and has his fun at work but also knows when it’s time to get down to business.
