Popping back in for the first time in a while to share this Icemav and Hangster dynamic!
Mav and Jake bond over shitty childhoods and foster homes while Ice and Roo stare at them in horror.
Because what do you mean you're BOTH laughing at the time your legal gaurdian starved you for misbehaving!!!??

Ice: "Hey babe. I know its late and im supposed to be on leave... but there is an emergency and the president is coming to the house for an immediate emergency meeting."
Mav *Resting from his concussion and bruised ribs from the Uranium mission*: "ookkayyy.... make sure they take their shoes off first..." *Falls asleep*
*President arrives*
Ice: "Im sorry sir... my husband said shoes off in the house."

Mav may be chaotic but he vacuums and is a shoes off in the house kind of guy!
I also know politics doesnt really work like this but HEY its my Top Gun fantasy world!
I love how in fics there are only two types of houses that Icemav tend to have. Its either a little beachside bungalow or basically a mansion, courtesy of Ice's Admiral rank, with enough bedrooms to fit all the daggers comfortably!
I also like to think that Mav grew up poor, in and out of foster homes, but Ice grew up rich and Mav kind of likes being a "trophy wife" and spoiled by Ice. The spoiling being he bought a project plane for his husband!🤣
Imagine the Bradshaw family, little Nicky and his two warm and loving parents. The parents helped others and were good people and when a social worker friend of theirs told them about a little boy that needed help they didn't refuse. Nicky was excited to have a new brother!
Pete was a small, timid boy who at 12 years old looked half his age and far too skinny. Mrs. Bradshaw would have to fix that! (I headcanon Goose's mom as southern and his dad as midwestern). Pete knew this was another home amongst the many he'd been to since his parent's deaths. They would be no different.
But the Bradshaws were kind, treated him with respect and as if he was apart of their warm little family, he couldn't handle it... he couldn't handle if this was ripped from him... He tried to run away when he was 13, he made as far as the bus stop with the ratty backpack he'd had since he lived with his own parents. But Nicky wouldn't let him leave, he loved his brother and it made him sad to see Petey so sad, he clearly didn't want to go.
No bus came, a sign Nicky said, Pete cried and hugged the taller boy, apologizing over and over. Nicky only smiled and said the one thing to make up for it was to come home. Pete agreed because he missed his new mama and papa.

I like the idea that Goose's parents adopted Mav around 12 and he struggled to accept that these people cared, he eventually found a new family and finally let himself grieve his birthparents as his foster families didn't want a melancholic child.

Imagine Ethan finds his twin brother after being seperated decades ago. Ethan FINALLY seperates from IMF but uses his last resources to track down the ONE person he was torn away from... his twin brother Peter...
Pete barely remembers Ethan, his mirror copy, the slightly more responsible one to his chaos. They got sepersted when a family wmated Ethan but found Pete too much to handle, he blamed himself for the separation... If only he was a better kid...
Ethan tracks down an address and hopes his brother is on the otherside. The door opens and there he is, his mirror image, his twin...
"Peter..."
Pete gasps, Ethan is in front of him! And called him Peter!
"No one's called me Peter in decades..." Pete whispers as Ethan pulls his long lost brother into his arms.
I for some reason have a thing for Mav getting hurt and Ice coming to the recuse!😭🤣 Im sorry!
During Jake and Bradley's fight after Jake brings up Goose, Mav is knocked in the head by Bradley's flying elbow trying to get hits in on Jake. Mav gets dropped like rock and all the daggers all stop, even Jake, which allows Bradley to get a punch in before turning to see what everyone is staring at.
Bradley's gut lurches when he sees Mav groaning on the ground with a cut on his head. Before anyone can move, Warlock is pushing the daggers aside, commanding them to get the on base doctor.
Jake had a broken nose, and Mav has a concussion as far as they know when THE COMPACFLT storms in past all the daggers standing at attention. He goes into the exam room where Maverick was being evaluated. They both leave the room 10 minutes later, Mav, with a bandage on his forehead and sunglasses shielding his sensitive eyes, was leaning slightly on Iceman and the two are HOLDING HANDS!? And Iceman does NOT look happy as he gingerly help Maverick down the hall and out the door.
Bradley simmering with anger and guilt knows this isn't the first time his temper and lashing out has hurt Mav...

While Bradley still stews in his anger he is also worried. He hit Mav... even in his teenager angst and adult anger over his academy papers being pulled, he'd never wanted to hit Maverick!
On the other side, Ice is taking care of his husband whose concussion seems to be persisting and making Mav extremely tired and lethargic, but it wasn't until Ice was woken up at 2am to Mav having a seizure. Ice rushed Mav to the hospital and they found out that Mav had an aneurysm and that surgery was the next step.
Base was buzzing with gossip. It was another cancer scare for the COMPACFLT, a car accident, it was endless! But Bradley knew the one person who would know. Jake "Hangman" Seresin. Real last name: Kazansky-Mitchell. Its a small secret that Mav and Ice had a little boy years ago via surrogacy, but everyone assumed the kid went to a normal college and has a normal job, but no. Jake wanted to fly and to free him from scrutiny and accusations of nepotism Jake took on his biological mother's name, but he was Mav and Ice's son through and through.
Bradley eventually finds Hangman sitting solemnly in the very same classroom where the fight happened, his head down and a shudder present in his shoulders.
Bradley begs to know what happened, but Jake is angry, the man who harmed his dad demanding information!? Are you kidding!? But Jake steels his resolve and tells Bradley anyway, not out of courtesy, but in hopes to hurt him and make him feel ashamed.
Bradley couldn't breath. a seizure!? An aneurysm!? AND SURGERY!! Mav's concussion turned ruptured aneurysm had made Bradley tear up and fall to his knees... what had he done? He knew his anger at Mav for his papers was valid but to ACCIDENTLY do this to Mav... He started to understand...
For years he blamed Mav for his father's death, only because of teenage angst and anger, but he knew it was an accident... Now Jake is looking at Bradley the way the latter KNEW he looked at Maverick. He understood...
Werewolf!Robby: *Has been suspicious of Langdon* "Are you helping yourself to benzos??"

I rewatched Top Gun and noticed something people dont really talk about.
When Pete is with Charlie and the radio is playing, he mentions how his parents loved a particular song and that after his father's death his mother would have Pete come into her room and play the song over and over again basically until she died (which was soon after his father's death).
Now. What makes this even MORE sad is that Pete was born around 1962 and his father died in 65', so he would be have been 4-6 years old when he died and when his mother's health started to decline quickly. Imagine poor, sweet little 5 yesr old Pete having his emotionally distraught and distant mother have him play this same song over and over until she finally passed. AND he was probably 5 or 6 years old when he most likely went into foster care.

I love the idea of both Mav and Ice being twins, BUT their twins are other characters played by Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise.
For instance, Ethan 'Hunt' is Mav's older twin brother who is more serious than Mav, but both have a tendency to be stubborn and redkless. Both were taken in by the government after their parents' deaths and the combination of their physicality and intelligence made them assests to use. The two were seperated as Mav was groomed for the Navy and Ethan the Army (eventually IMF).
And then you have Ice's younger twin brother Chris (Chris Knight from 'Real Genius') who is extremely gifted academically and graduated high school early, but he got burnt out in college and started to slack off and became silly and impulsive, the opposite of his no-nonsense, ice cold brother Tom.
Now with that, imagine a fic where the four of them are caught up in a whirlwind of government conspiracy and family drama!!!!! I need fics like this!!!
I dont see many posts for Chipper on here, so here are my ideas for him!
His callsign "Chipper" is to highlight that he is actually kind of frown master and not very social. He's a little bitchy and has a tendency for attitude, this comes from a place of having a hard childhood and having the mentality of "I have to get them first before they get me". He doesnt trust easy and thus wasn't looked upon as a team player and as a lone wolf.
It wasn't until he met Sundown who gave him some tough love, yet support and understanding. He cared for Chipper and he was hurt a lot by the pilot's harsh exterior, but he also saw how others picked at him to rile him up and gave him his callsign as a joke to laugh at (most callsigns are mean to be a joke, but this was cruelty)
Sundown showed him compassion and tough love cause Chipper could act like a little bitch for random reasons and Chipper soon grew to be more open about his feelings and learned how to trust. Sundown then introduced Chipper to his friends (Mav, Goose, Ice, Slider, Hollywood, and Wolfman) and he started to let his walls down and find trust in his new support system.
Sundown and Chipper's wedding was the third 86' flyboys wedding after Icemav and Hollywolf!!!
Whump headcanon/AU that Jake's father was a Marine that raised his daughters and only son with an iron fist. Extremely high expectations in school, sports, hobbies, anything that made the family look good. Jake is riddled with anxiety and strives for perfection to gain his father's approval and attention, nothing seemingly enough for the decorated marine. He hides his feelings with a cocky attitude and an ego that everyone expects of Major General Seresin's son.
But then Jake's father finds out about his high school boyfriend (they broke up amicably for college), but the breaking of the camels back was Jake's acceptance into the Naval Academy. Jake chose the Navy over the Marines and his father was beyond embarrassed and refused to speak to Jake after he left for USNA.
A year after the uranium mission, Jake is happy and healing and feels like he can be himself with Bradley, and he finds a family with the Daggers and with Maverick and Ice (Ice doesnt die hurrah!). Jake's life is great, until he receives a call from his sister... their father has been hospitalized and should come say goodbye.
Jake was hopeful for a change of heart in his father and the conversation with his father is decent, while the man still had a distatse for the Navy he accepted at least Jake was a well accomplished fighter pilot. Jake expresses he's happy and has a boyfriend and a good life.
His father does not share this joy. In his eyes, Jake has gone soft, he no longer strives for greatness and all his efforts to make him extraordinary have failed. All the healing he'd accomplished starts to crack, the hard shell his father made out of him had fallen away in the years he's been away and it hits Jake very hard. His father passes from a heart condition later that week. Bradley, Mav, and Ice hold and support Jake, he cries for the father he wanted but smiled widely through the tears at his freedom.
