The origin of Doctor Doom. Amazingly, I think I can still find him more sympathetic than characters. He's lonely and full of both extreme confidence and extreme self hatred over his deformed face, and I think I can almost always relate to a character as long as they're temperamental and lonely. Also, Doctor Doom seems more sympathetic than reed richards in some ways. But I'll try to explain how I reached that conclusion in a paragraph below. (Fantastic Four annual #2):
Doctor Doom was the child of two people who were murdered. A sorceress and a romani healer. He had to use cunning and guile and skill to become the man he is today. He was given no help. He was forced to climb the ladder independently and alone. Now he sits friendless ruling as a feudal lord with a face apparently too hideous for his or anyone else's eyes. It's sad, and it also reminds me of those stupid morality tales in the 19th or 20th century of poor people who worked hard and became millionaires. Doom might embody that stereotype.
Comparatively, Reed Richards grew up rich. I never think about it, but Stan Lee dropped that info in an early comic. Reed was born into wealth, so I highly doubt he had to do anything like what doom did. Reed was rich but capable of making friends. His friendships kept him sane, despite his eccentricities and large fortune. Doom never found any friends, and he seems to live solely out of spite. I'm not going to lie: doom's story speaks to me more. I don't really relate to the conditions in which he grew up, but I think he's more sympathetic than reed. Reed was born rich and has a clear social net. Doom has...maybe nobody? It's sad and sadly feels like it's quite relatable.
