Monday morning ant brigade
(totally a Bouncing Souls allusion)
I’ve been a union stagehand for about two years now. Often times the hours are long an unpredictable. The work is mentally and physically challenging, and the lifestyle is raucous. However, come this time of season (the holidaze), the work begins to slow down and the struggle continues.
No many how many nuts i squirrel away in anticipation for a lull in work, it’s just never enough when you live in San Francisco. In order to make it out here, your hustle must be on point. You have to save, work, twerk, network, lay off the gurp, push purp, and stay on high alert.
So, I’m on my grind. My first move is to go through the contact list and “wake up the block” :: re-connect with friends, family, associates, clients, and places of employment. A good ‘ole “Hey there, how are things” is my preferred way to shake off the dust and see what’s good with my peoples.
Up next, I put in hours wherever I can: freelance gigs, uber-ing, helping out at my homies local businesses.” Anything is many things, something is better than none.”
Then, the hustle game is thrown into full effect. Business meetings, brainstorm sessions, professional consultations, research and development, and most importantly, connecting game. Connecting game in the Bay Area is unique in the sense that it can be incredibly casual despite the level of professionals involved. it’s 2015, I can simply tag two people in an instagram post, start a group text, facilitate a meet up at a bar, or host a COD Black ops 3 party. The game is thick.
Until things pick back up in the union, my ear is to the ground, my alarm is set, and I stay ready to jump out at a moments notice.
“Make that money, don’t let it make you”
