Re Rust: IATSE 44 said the gun was loaded with a singe live round and that the production had no union members on set. This is what happens when companies attempt to avoid working within the confines of union rights. People are killed without proper procedure. Baldwin only discharged a single round.

Thank you for the update. I believe this is why it was so horrifying for those working in the industry. Because we know the procedures that must be taken and we know the dangers. That’s why we have unions and strict sets of rules. And so when they get ignored over the ‘hassle’ of union rights, and people get hurt, it’s terrifying that a company would rather spend less money than protect lives. Because these are human lives that were put at risk and one that was lost. It is the company that we must hold accountable.

And this further supports the IASTE strike and the issues we’ve been having for decades with the blatant disregard for safety of workers on set. What has happened is unacceptable and must be addressed to prevent repeats.
