Stussy 35th Anniversary Trunk Show
This past Thursday @Stussy had their 35th Anniversary Trunk Show on LA Brea. Stussy is the OG streetwear brand that started in NY in1980 selling surfboards. I am a big fan of the brand they have done dope things and have lots of notoriety in the streetwear scene. I found out about this event from @NeekLurk ‘s twitter. I have never met this guy, but I believe he is a brand manager for Stussy/Undefeated and has started his own brand Anti social social club. Anyway, when I got to the shop they had a rack of archived pieces that looked like they were from the current season. They also had some vintage advertisements framed or displayed as well as vintage surfboards. After spending some time at the shop I was incredibly disappointed. A small paper sign above the clothing rack let the viewer know what pieces were archival. For a brand that has so much history and is such a dominant player in the streetwear game they could have done more for this milestone in Stussy’s history. One improvement would have been to hang a piece of paper on the respective garment’s hook and tell the viewer why this piece is special, similar to a museum placard next to a piece of art. Maybe an intern who had no idea what he was doing set this event up so I would back off a bit, but if an upper level Stussy employee did than there is so much more he could have done to make this event more special. They did have a limited tote bag and a T-shirt to celebrate the event, which is great but I think people who came, came to see the collection. In summary, I am still a big fan of Stussy I just hope they put more effort into their events. One big plus was the staff working there. They were very helpful in explaining the history of Stussy. I believe the event is still going on this week and can be seen at 112 S. La Brea AVE Los Angeles, CA 90036. All mistakes in this article were on purpose.
AIR MAX Event
On March 28th I went to the AIR MAX BOX Nike pop up shop in the art district of downtown Los Angeles. This event was to celebrate AIR MAX DAY, which was on March 26th. The pop up shop was only open for 3 days from the 26th to the 28th. Apparently on the first day Tinker, you know the guy who designed the most of the Nike Air Max’s, AKA the Michelangelo of sneaker design. Too bad I am an idiot college student who could only make it on Saturday. The outside of the box was constructed with LED lights and had a slideshow of the history of Air Max models. The inside of the box had each Air Max model in a tube with a blurb about the backstory of the shoe. The floor was made of clear plexi glass with sketches of designing the various sneakers along with limited edition versions of the shoes. I believe @MAYOR let Nike borrow his pairs of limited shoes. YO FAM DOES NIKE NOT ARCHIVE THERE SHIT. COULD YOU IMAGE NIKE BE LIKE BRUH DO YOU MIND IF I BORROW SOME OF YOUR FIRE KICKS? This is the life I wish I lived. They also had shoes for sale like, the Air Max Zero, the patch Air Max 1 pack, as well as the woman’s floral Air Max 1 pack. Now on to the outside of the box. YO ARE “THAT WHAT SEE SAID JOKES STILL FUNNY?” They had nail art for the way to nice girlfriends who waited in line with their loser boyfriends to buy some sneakers. Side note: if you are good looking and love the Air Max 1 can you please match with me on Tinder? They also had a Jason Markk sneaker cleaning station to get your shoes looking right. But on to the stuff that really matters the free shit. They gave away SNKRS codes on a metal square dog tag type thing and a 3-D printed sneaker either AM1, AM90, AM95, or AMZero in their respective OG colourway. Overall the event was a nice way to connect with people who love Air Max. Nike successfully created a holiday related to a shoe and sneaker heads loved it. The biggest surprise to me was the amount of Air Max heat in line for the event. I personally love Air Max’s and was surprised how many US sneaker heads also love Air Max. When I went to Amsterdam most sneaker stores would sell out of Air Maxs and have Jordan’s sit on shelves. In the US it is normally the opposite so it was cool to see so many US heads fuck with Air Max’s. All Mistakes in this article were on purpose.
