Ok, so, I don’t usually write stuff down on here, but I have some serious problems with some storylines from Love Victor season 2…
I’m gonna vent some here…
First of all, to give context ‘cause I’m gonna talk about it, I’m latinx, from a very catholic family, like my father’s godfather was literally the town priest. And I have an uncle that deals with Alcoholism since his teens years.
Gonna talk a little about Rahim, Victor and Benji (this one on the next post cause I have a LOT to say)
- RAHIM
So, I LOVE his character, the way he was written, how it shows that there’s no specific way to be gay. With Rahim, we have three with different personalities, witch I absolute loved.
The way they showed us his connection with his religion, another POC character that have some similarities with victor but also so many differences. I loved that cause people of color comes from everywhere, not a specific country or culture.
He’s just such a light you know? The actor did a marvelous job.
HOWEVER, I absolute HATE what the writes did to him, putting him in this very badly written love triangle (if we can call it that), it didn’t had any real build up.
Idk who thought would be a good a ideia to wrote him saying that he wanted what victor and benji had, and them some eps later he kinda used the moment that their relationship was bad to confess his feelings, kiss victor and said stuff like “I don’t want to be in the middle”, like ?????? sweetie you’re exactly in the middle, and you even said to him like “you know where my house is”. The way the writers wrote that, like, so are we comparing a long, serious relationship with this one day romance?? Like, I wish I had Rahim confidence, lol. I didn’t like how the writes choose to do this “triangle” could’ve been so much better (or better than that, if never existed).
To me was a little weird how the writers choose to make Rahim falls for Victor, the guy he was getting guidance from. That was my fear while watching s1 (Simon x Victor), apart from the age difference in this case, is SO chilê, the amount of times that a saw this happens in movies, I can’t even.
I REALLY hope that in season 3 the writes give Rahim a great storyline, we could see in single, flirting. And we’ll be seeing him and Victor being friends. Gays CAN BE FRIENDS PEOPLE!!!! Somebody find the writers so we can tell this to them.
- VICTOR
Oh boy… Where to start? I love his character, I feel so many similarities watching his family. I love his basketball storyline, the whole first time, him kinda fitting into Simon’s shoes, his day with Rahim being bffs, seeing him more comfortable in his own skin.
But like, there were so many storylines that the writers gave us that was so yikes…
The way they make victor be super pissed at benji because he didn’t told him about AA, like? It’s such a serious problem, and to deal SO young. The writes choose to give us victor feeling betrayed instead of trying to talk to benji, to see if he was ok, or even giving him some support, that was weird to me. Specially since victor knows that benji almost died.
Not a huge thing, but how victor just throw something together to celebrate benji’s birthday, when in season 1 he helped benji did something so amazing to Derek, didn’t like that.
The way he didn’t step up to his mother, that annoyed the shit out of me, especially cause it was MONTHS, we didn’t see it cause of the time jump, but like Isabel was homophobic to benji, to her son, they didn’t knowledge that. It’s should have shown in the apology that she did to benji.
Victor telling about Benji alcoholism to Rahim? WTF was that?? Who wrote that? And he knew he shouldn’t tell that to him, even if he NEEDED to tell somebody, Mia? Felix? Not somebody that benji don’t even know. Then being like “but I can trust him” like are you serious? You told something that your bf told you and you could see the shame and pain that this was to him, and acted like was nothing.
The whole religion thing, they had a HUGE chance to talk about, Victor to Benji, to show the audience, not everybody it’s used to religion. It’s a complicated field, some things are impregnated in you so deep that it’s difficult to change, HOWEVER religion it’s NEVER AN EXCUSE to discriminate!!! NEVER! I felt like the writers lost the chance to show an open conversation about that, the shame, the believes, everything. If Victor chooses benji, I hope their use the opportunity.
The kiss of Rahim, again, WTF was that??? Good for the actors, great chemistry, but like, Victor???? You are in a relationship sweetie, that’s cheating (AGAIN), he kissed back, after just watching benji left heartbroken.
The way that the writes wrote these storylines to Victor, I end up seeing him a little selfish, like, it’s always about him and he NEVER acknowledges the stuff that he did, I was so mad, it’s like he does stuff and when shit hits the vent, it’s like “omg, but I didn’t mean to”, bitch but you hurt people, think before you do the things. Acknowledge the shit that you did, that you are in the wrong. He’s the main character, we’re suppose to always cheer for him, but at the ending I was like “seriously Victor, again?🙄😒”
That’s what I remember now, gonna do a whole post about Benji, cause I have a lot to say about him and his storylines. Before I ended this post, I like to said that I think Victor will choose Benji just cause it wouldn’t make sense if he picks Rahim, however if this end up happening, to me, it’s the writes telling us that Victor really didn’t care about Benji.
And I would like to share my deepest fear:
I would be ok with Victor choosing Rahim, they have great chemistry, however if the writes do this and “forget” about benji, like, make him barely appear, throw away all the great storylines that they could do cause he’s no longer Victor’s bf, I’m gonna be livid. Make Vahim happens if that what the writes want, but pleaaaaaase give benji a good storyline, I want to know his whole story, I feel like is one that (unfortunately) so many people can relate to, and would be able to see hope in his character.
