Some Miscellaneous Magical Thoughts (for my own personal practice)
Intention: A focused, conscious direction of energy and effort.
Make a workspace altar, integrate it into your life (as opposed to having it gather dust like an interior decoration display, interact with it and use it).
Incorporate your everyday life into your practice, don’t bind yourself down to what your practice “should look like”. What does your life already look like? What already works for you that you want to work magic into?
June 28, 2021
Inner-child work is particularly difficult for me, especially because thinking about my childhood makes me feel cynical, strange, and uncomfortable. Working through it all, bit by bit, has proven to be no simple task. Most days, as of mid-March 2021, I don’t even have the energy to make art, let alone do anything spiritually/energetically significant for myself. I will find the energy somewhere. I will make the energy somehow. I will heal.

February 14, 2020 :) Gotta move on!

1. Research! Ask questions! Chances are if you’re reading this post, you’ve already started this step. Is witchcraft right for you? I am a firm believer that anyone can be a witch, as witchcraft is simply a scaffolding on which to explore spirituality. Everyone has their spirit to explore! I will write a post about creators and sources I suggest to get started on your research in the future.
2. Do what feels right for you! Pick and choose your traditions. Start a journal (also called a “Book of Shadows” or “grimoire”) to record those rituals and traditions that work for you. Please DO NOT listen to sources that claim that you cannot practice witchcraft unless you follow a specific path or set of traditions. You build your own craft! Spirituality is entirely personal and nobody but you has the right to define your practice.
3. If you like, you can pick a path! Many MANY witchcraft paths exist (including green, hedge, hearth, healing, kitchen, chaos, sea, and storm witchcraft, among others). Also, if you are particularly drawn to a certain religious practice such as Wicca, Satanism, or Paganism (of Norse gods, Celtic gods, Greek gods, etc.) read up on those religions. Remember, you can be any religion and practice witchcraft! You can even be an agnostic or atheist witch. The craft of being a witch and one’s religious beliefs can exist together or separately! I will write a post about creators and sources I suggest to research witchcraft paths and religious paths in the future.
4. Adjust your craft to emphasize your talents. If you find that you are especially good at finding spiritual wealth through cooking, incorporate your kitchen skills into your craft (for example, baking a spell of abundance into a cake). If you are gifted at finding spiritual wealth through communication with your ancestors, you can incorporate your hedge skills into your craft (for example, calling upon your ancestors during a spell of strength or of healing). These are just two examples, but there are infinite possibilities! Combine your real-life hobbies, talents, skills, and interests with your craft. This will make your life overflow spiritually!
5. Acknowledge that it is natural for your spirituality and perception to shift. If one day you no longer identify with witchcraft, that is absolutely acceptable. If it was a fulfilling and educational part of your path through life, that is all that matters. There are no contracts here, you don’t sign your soul away. It is my belief that witchcraft is a devotion to yourself, your soul, and your own personal spiritual journey. There are no rules set in place for you, you define your own boundaries. Always do what enriches your spirit, and if one day witchcraft no longer enriches your spirit, new and beautiful things will find their way into your life. Don’t fret!
Thank you for reading, I hope this was helpful! Leave an ask if you’d like to hear about my takes on anything specific, I’m taking suggestions!

(𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓 𝟏: There has been some discourse surrounding "witch types" or "paths". I'm now of the opinion that, if not thoroughly researched, these "paths" can limit your practice and make it revolve around what you own, rather than what you do. You can focus your attention on specific tools that enhance your craft, like the cultivation of plants or working with crystals, but to call yourself a green witch or crystal witch can be reductive and oversimplify your spirituality. For these reasons, combining points 3 & 4 of this post is a more productive way to view the "witch type" phenomenon.
𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓 𝟐: Research traditions and esotericism as well as the mysticism and religion of the occult [as well as folk-magick versus high-magick and their significance throughout history]. Have a broad view of the occult and magickal communities that exist, and avoid spiritual tunnel-vision. Be open to the influence and knowledge of others, and acknowledge that unverified personal gnosis [UPG] dictates most spiritual experiences.)
My Altar Space
Here is a little altar tour of sorts! I set it up last week.
Much of my spirituality revolves around science and astronomy. Mankind’s next adventure into the Final Frontier of outer space will be to the Moon (the first step on our journey to a manned mission to Mars) and I have been passionate about space since I was very young. I have wanted to be a fighter-jet pilot or astronaut since I was about 9 or 10 years old. I am now 20 years old and that dream hasn’t died. I’ve put up posters of the Moon, the Apollo Lunar Module, and deep space to be visual aids to my manifestations. With these gorgeous images I will always remember my dreams and what I am always working towards.
The top shelf of my altar (from left to right) contains the small white notebook where I am designing my personal tarot deck (the cards that I am painting are in front of the white book), the checkerboard notebook where I tape or glue materials/tags that I want to remember the names of, my Book of Shadows (the blue notebook with the gold constellations), my black folder of drawings/writings that need to go into my grimoire. On the right side there is a small devotion to the elements: an essential oil diffuser for air, (hidden behind the diffuser) a jar of rain water, a red candle for fire, and a plant for earth. I also have my guardian animal statues (the crow statue with the spindly legs and the ceramic paper crane), a clock to remind me to reflect on the passing of time, a red bowl that I made filled with salt and lemon crystals to cleanse the energy in my space (and to remind me to reflect on construction), my black knife (to whittle and to remind me to reflect on destruction), and my wand which I am carving (it is still a work-in-progress). My altar cloth is one of the pillowcases that goes to my nebula bed-sheets.
On the second shelf of my altar (from left to right) is the jar of my four extracted wisdom teeth, my small white box of crystals, my pendulum, my long wooden box of wand decorations, four spell pouches of varying colors (divination/scrying in red, protection in yellow, miscellaneous magical items in green, and my lucky jade elephant in blue), my hand carved white queen (the first piece in a chess set I am creating), my red No Face doll (used as a sort of guardian/voodoo doll of sorts), my red tin whistle, my collection of jars and bottles, my white spell candle, my essential oils and lavender sleep spray, and a lighter for my candles.
On the third shelf are my books and my prosperity jar where I collect all loose change (to be saved up for my future tattoos). On the floor beneath the third shelf are boxes that I will paint and use for storage.

Counting Crows!
One Crow — Bad Luck, Death (Should be noted that a corvid alone is unusual as they are gregarious species)
Two Crows — Good Luck, Joy
Three Crows — Wedding, Female Birth
Four Crows — An Event, Male Birth
Five Crows — Money, Positive Business
Six Crows — Wealth Change, Loss/Gain
Seven Crows — Secret, Curse
Eight Crows — Life-Altering experience
Nine Crows — Love, Something Sensual
Ten Crows — Turnaround In Luck, Overwhelming
Eleven Crows — Surprise, Secrets (Hidden/Revealed)
Twelve Crows — Good Luck, Fulfillment
Thirteen Crows — Completion, The End
It’s been said that if the number of covids you see tallies up to something negative, then it can be countered with saying “Greetings Mr. Crow, I salute you!” as well as offering it a lil’ treat!
There are many different rhymes to help you remember! One of the longer ones goes as follows:
“One for sadness, two for mirth;
Three for marriage, four for birth;
Five for laughing, six for crying:
Seven for sickness, eight for dying;
Nine for silver, ten for gold;
Eleven a secret that will never be told.”
