I’ve always loved the Hades/Persephone AU for Reylo. It just fits them so perfectly. Plus I’ve been re-reading PJO which put me in a major Greek mythology mood, so this is the result haha. I think I spent about 25 hours on this in total 😳

I’m still not over how fucking infantilizing it is to make a grown ass woman’s entire arc about finding parents instead of moving forward with her adult life. Rey didn’t need parents, she needed adult love and happiness and that was ripped away from her for no good reason.

Not even her actual parents. But one adoptive quasi parent after another till she's "satisfied" with the last name

Is there any male version of this? I can’t think of any. Male characters are either orphans, rebelling against their parents, occasionally collaborating with them (Indiana Jones?), have them as distant mentor figures (Superman, Harry Potter), or they don’t appear at all. Sometimes the parent is the outright antagonist for males. I can’t think of a female analog to the outright antagonist, except for Cinderella narratives where the female is rescued from tyrannical parents by marrying a man.

Anyway, I can’t think of a male story that has a man looking for his parents and seeking a family to be included in as a child/descendent when he wasn’t already descended from them. Most stories about men are about what that particular man accomplishes on his own, without his parents having any role in that. I realize female narratives more often include family themes, but it’s still weird.

I can see why it would be important to Rey, but first TLJ made her seemingly move forward, accepting her parent’s fate and that she’ll be with the Resistance now (and probably with Ben later) but TROS erased that plot point. It was all about Rey’s parents again and in the end, her parents didn’t even seem to actually interest her, most of her “chosen family” is dead by the end and she destroyed her only living and evil family member - aka Palps - in disgusted rage and desperation.So the shitty handling of that trope made her neither come to terms with her biological family, nor be with her beloved Skywalker-family in the end. She... just doesn’t end the movie with being proud of who she is, but what her family is and bring her back to a place resembling the prison of her childhood, alone and with a dead family again.

This is interesting as fuck…. blue is the most rarely occurring pigment on our planet. These blue morpho butterflies 🦋 do not have a single pigment of blue in their wings. The microscopic structures of their wings filter out all light except this blue you see. It’s all diffraction. There are no vertebrates on this planet (that we know of) who produce blue pigment.
