Do you feel sad for your characters that you are putting them in these horrible situations in your fanfic?

A lot of my fanfic characters have had terrible things happened:

Family's torn apart

Character is going through abuse or relationship problems.

Does anybody feel upset when they write these stories in their Head you feel sorry for what you are putting your characters through?
