HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN as Anakin Skywalker in his Clone Wars armor 👀
HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN as ANAKIN SKYWALKER/DARTH VADER Ahsoka: Part 5 - Shadow Warrior (2023)
Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen being utterly adorable in Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return.
Two dorks for @weaponizedwit. Happy birthday!
Obi-Wan being nearly crushed by Vader while remembering Anakin’s hate and terrible words vs. Obi-Wan finding the strength to survive and fight as he remembers his children’s happiness and hope for their future….. how is the mental breakdown going for you, fellow prequels stans
The fight of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader in Part VI of the series is the mountain top of emotionally driven narrative storytelling of a fight scene, and here is why.
Obi-Wan, during most of the fight, isn't in the defensive. This is the Master of Soresu, the most defensive lightsaber form you can specialize in. But in the fight with Darth Vader, unlike during his duel with Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar, Obi-Wan is advancing. Even in the beginning, even before he was buried beneath the stones. Obi-Wan is having the upper hand, even if it's not that obvious. He is determined, strong-willed, he knows what he has to do. "I will do what I must" - defeat Darth Vader (not Anakin, to parallel Mustafar). He has to end this. But while he is 100% in tune with his skills, his purpose as a Jedi, ("Your strength has returned"), there is still a component left that he hasn't adressed fully, completely: Anakin Skywalker. The grief, the pain, the regrets.
And thus, when they battle through the Force, Darth Vader bests him. Because the Force relies on being absolutely in-tune with one's emotions, also. And Obi-Wan, at that moment, is still not - and this "weakness" is his love for Anakin Skywalker.
"Your strength has returned. But the weakness still remains."
When they clash lightsabers again after that, it is Obi-Wan who is now on the defensive, for the first time really, during their fight. Suddenly, he is losing. Because he still has not let go of Anakin Skywalker.
Darth Vader says: Love is the weakness. Compassion is the weakness. "And that is why you will always lose."
And in that pivotal moment, when he is buried beneath the stone, when he is barely managing to not be crushed completely, when is is tormented with memories of Anakin, with all this unspeakable agony, the regrets of failure, and torment of what has happened, what has been lost... it is love that saves him. The love for Anakin Skywalker's children. The bond to them, and the hope they give him. In particular, the one to Leia. And this, in turn, is also his love for Anakin Skywalker himself.
The weight of those stones, a metaphor for the the crushing torment of what Anakin and him have done to each other. And he literally frees himself from it. He begins to unburden himself. He flings hundres of tonnes of stone away. He catches up to Vader. He uses some of Anakin's own moves to attack him. He overpowers and force-pushes Darth Vader, the Chosen One, the most powerful force-user known in history, away after 15 seconds of fighting.
And then... the stone-lifting scene. Throwing the weight of all those stones, the metaphor for all this grief and torment, back at Darth Vader. And then Obi-Wan goes on to absolutely obliterate Darth Vader. He cuts his mask. And then, it isn't Darth Vader. It's Anakin Skywalker that looks back at him.
And then, Obi-Wan... say sorry. He apologizes. Not to Vader. He apologizes to Anakin. He cries. His heart is breaking. It may even be one last attempt to call upon Anakin Skywalker, his best friend, to save him. And then, once he realises, that it is not possible - that Darth Vader has destroyed him - he says gooodbye. He leaves.
And he let's go. And it is the love for Anakin, Padmé and their children that remains.
I CAN’T EVEN GIF THIS SCENE, IT’S TOO MUCH. The intensity of it, the absolute badass fight scene, contrasted against how sad this fight is. It’s truly a successor to the Mustafar fight from Revenge of the Sith, which is a fight that none other in Star Wars has yet to beat when it comes to dramatics and emotional impact going hand in hand. We have these two just flinging each other around, Obi-Wan and Vader know each other intimately, they weave and twist around each other all throughout the fight, even ten years later when they’ve both been so worn down or twisted by their time separated, they still know each other. They are still surprisingly evenly matched. They still are each others’ vulnerabilities. No one can fight each other like these two fight each other. The fight was incredible, it was epic, and yet the core remains these moments. This is the heart of the fight, of their relationship, of the series. One of absolute and utter sorrow. These two are larger than life, incredibly iconic characters, it would be so easy to get lost in how epic they are and how incredible this fight was. Obi-Wan was flinging him around like a rag doll! Vader was destroying the ground right under their feet! Obi-Wan lifted approximately five hundred rocks to fling at him! Vader crashed down on him like a tidal wave! Obi-Wan slammed into him until he literally took Vader apart! But that’s not the heart of the fight. This is. The pain, the loss, the tragedy, the sorrow of what Anakin had become. Obi-Wan so desperately wants Anakin to come back, to see his old friend again, there is no question that he would help Anakin Skywalker back to the light. He reaches out with compassion when he sees Vader’s face, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Anakin. For all of it.” He sees Vader and it breaks his heart, he cries for this broken man, he would do whatever he could to help set it right. Again, this could have been a badass moment where Vader leans into epic, undiluted rage. But the dark side isn’t just rage. it’s also fear. And pain. And suffering. That cutting Vader open to see the core of him isn’t just going to show us something cool and awesome, but someone sad. Someone lost in the dark. Someone suffering and afraid. Someone who says, “I am what remains.” as a lamentation of what he has become just as much as a vow. When Obi-Wan cries for the death of his friend, we understand that some part of him still hoped, so desperately, that his friend would return. For years he couldn’t let go because Anakin’s death haunted him, he couldn’t live without the guilt and loss and suffering of having lost Anakin. But then Anakin is alive. And he’s done terrible things, but Obi-Wan can’t want him deal, Obi-Wan still loves him, some part of Obi-Wan is still holding on, because he wants his friend to come back. But seeing Vader’s face, seeing that he knows this is the way of pain and suffering, but he’s choosing it anyway, Obi-Wan has to let go. His friend is truly dead. And it’s a loss. For all that this was an incredible battle between two powerful Force users who know each other intimately, the scene ends on loss and one letting go, while the other still clings to their pain. We cannot help but remember Anakin Skywalker, the brilliant and shining young man that we all loved, that Obi-Wan loved so much. We cannot help but think of their parting on Mustafar, where Obi-Wan won the fight previously as well, that that too was an epic battle that ended in sorrow. Anakin flinging hateful words at him, but Obi-Wan only had tears and “I loved you.” for him. This scene is the successor to that moment on Mustafar. “I’m so sorry. For all of it. My friend is truly dead. Goodbye, Darth.” and Obi-Wan still can’t kill him, even when maybe he should, but he has to let go, this cannot consume him anymore. He walked away on Mustafar, thinking he’d killed Anakin, but taking the weight of it with him. This time, he walks away knowing Vader lives, but leaving the weight behind with him. For Obi-Wan, this is the completion of the circle of letting go. He’ll still offer Vader one more chance on the Death Star, will hold his weapon up instead of in position, will let Vader make the choice, will give him one more piece of advice in a warning, but it is here that Obi-Wan lets go of the weight in his soul that was holding on to Anakin Skywalker. And all of it is a tragedy, Darth Vader is terrifying, we see him do impossibly brutal and terrible things, but when you cut him open, he is weak, he is miserable, and he keeps himself prisoner in the dark despite that he knows what it’s doing to him. And it’s so sad. None of us should ever want to be Darth Vader, no matter how cool he can sometimes be. Because, at his core, he is nothing but fear, misery, pain, and suffering.
Clem, I have a feeling that this show is going to rip me apart… I can’t wait, it’s going to be amazing !
So can we have a very soft moment with Anakin and Obi-Wan in a universe where they are happy (canon who?) or maybe SSK/ Jedi but ennemies where we have a vulnerable Obi-Wan (my✨favorite✨) like he has a nightmare or have very bad day and the only thing that keeps him grounded is to trace Anakan’s face’s features with the tip of his fingers and Ani leans into his touch 🥺🥺🥺
I chose to write 2.4k of an AU close in time to the Kenobi series, the slightly-too-early-clone-wars AU, where Order 66 happened when Anakin was 19 and still a padawan who fled the Temple and joined the Rebellion to be found by sad and resigned Obi-Wan 10 years later. Just enough hurt/comfort to handle the Kenobi series!
Sometimes, for a second, Obi-Wan forgets.
It doesn't happen often, but a moment of crossfire, orders given to people who will have to risk their lives in the next second or alerts of an imminent threat, and Obi-Wan is back in the clone wars.
And it almost feels good.
Then, at least, Obi-Wan had the Force to rely on.
At least Obi-Wan had the Order.
At least Obi-Wan had his family.

So I played Fallen Order for the first time… and I’m gonna talk about it even if no one read this because otherwise I’ll forget. This is my catharsis diary 😂.
I played Fallen Order for the first time and it was also the first time I’ve ever played PlayStation (PS4 to be precise) I wasn’t really into PS but I’ve been around the SW fandom long enough to know that I would like Fallen Order … and OMG it was excellent ?! (Not that I have many references for video games besides Mario kart) but honestly the story about grieving and loss and moving forward after a deep traumatic event ?! Amazing ! The cinematic sequence ? Brilliant ! The story line ? Captivating!
Okay it’s supposed to be a story about hope but honesty it’s so so sad. I knew it was post 66 orders but it’s just sad people coming together with sad past trauma (fall of the Jedi, betrayed by her master and thus living in a deep consuming hate lifestyle, survived the majority and her sisters being killed and so on). I mean wow, the scene where Trilla gets tortured into a Sith, I am 24 and I found it hard to watch, the ninth sister taunting Cal by telling him exactly what happens when you turn dark (the torture, exclusion, the people you once knew barely acknowledging you…). The echos Cal feels it’s like always a heart breaking story ?! (That padawan that had to bury her master AND died succumbing to their wounds?! Okay :) then :)))
Seriously Darth Vader is goddam scary in this… I mean I love Anakin Skywalker very deeply and it’s hard for me to watch Darth Vader without connecting him through Anakin’s lens (which is normal I guess) but what I mean is that I’ve almost never saw him as a heartless, cold, monster character, to me he is just so very broken (because I guess I’ve seen the saga in the 1,2,3,4,5,6 order, I don’t really remember or I was just hard to impress when I was a kid) even in Rogue One I was like OMG he is unstoppable (while still seeing the horrendous level of dehumanization of him y’a know) but he was never scary to me.
But here, « you have failed me Inquisitor » and sliced her … that was brutal I don’t really know how to describe it but yeah it was merciless. And of course the Drama Queen arrival, with the smoke, the music, waiting for Trilla to finish speaking, then waiting for her to feel him and we see her face when she’s hit by the realization that she is doomed, the fear in her eyes and the hopelessness, it is both really scary and impressive because there is no escape from him (my dumbass self being like… why doesn’t he have a health bar?? Okay so imma die, sorry Cal I won’t try I mean he is Darth Vader)
But also I love the family found story, Cal, my very very sweet baby but also the « You would be wise to surrender », « Yeah, probably » what a little shit 🥰🥰 I love him so much, the connexion with Cere (and I really loved to fact that he didn’t judged her or giving her hard time for giving up Trilla’s location when she was tortured), Greez and his weird wizard family is sweet, opening up to them as the story goes, BD1 my precious.
BD1. This droid his just so cute the « bidoudi » sound had me 🥺🥺🥺🥺 plus he is a badass and Cal’s self-proclaimed best friend and savior. And Merrin, my beloved I could rent about her for hours and I love her dynamic with Cal and how he has to prove himself again and again to gain her trust and after that he immediately adopted her (the way she hugged him, I haven’t recovered yet). Plus her story is amazing and her voice is really super attractive and her design is just chief-kiss . Trilla, her story is spectacular and one of the best villain I’ve seen. She is a badass, unhinged only driven by hatred with no regards for herself and also profoundly wounded.
Oh and I honestly wasn’t excepting to see and fucking interact with Order 66?? I was like « you really are going to make me relieve it aren’t you ? » that part of the game hit me hard + Anakin’s Betrayal soundtrack had me almost in tears.
I finished the game in a week and now I feel like my life is over. But it’s not because I have 2 exams tomorrow. And I will NOT be passing away before the Obi-Wan Kenobi show.
But god I loved that game plus I heard (lol no I clearly googled it) that there might me a Fallen Order 2 👀👀
I wish I would play it for the first time again… and now I’m off looking for fanfic about it because I want MORE.
Desert Children
The ashes of Jedha outfit was really nice and I wanted Anakin to wear it. I also love the commonality of father and son growing up in the desert. Lord Vader carrying Luke is my favorite motif<3
Funny I was thinking about how obvious Anakin is and this amazing anon sent you the same prompt and I can’t stop imagining the possibles scenes like :
When Obi-Wan is in the « fuck it imma flirt with him he cute » part of his life, Anakin is completely clueless like :
Obi-Wan : you hair look dashing today darling
Anakin : thanks I grew them myself
Or
Ahsoka : why did master Kenobi brought you flowers again ?
Anakin : I don’t really know but he complained a lot about the appartement smelling like oil lately so I guess that’s why
Or :
Obi-Wan : I brought you this very rare piece of technology for your upgrade on Artoo dear one
Anakin : if this is the way you are apologizing for going to Dex with Quilan instead of me… well it’s working thank you so much master ☺️
Or, Obi-Wan trying a very bold technique since Anakin isn’t receptive at all :
Obi-Wan : straddling Anakin’s hips
Anakin : … what is it Master ? Do you need me to check you contact lenses again ? Why are you blushing ? Are you sick, do you need to go to the Hall of Healing ? You know what, you never say when you need to go so we’re are going.
In the end Obi-Wan try a more direct approche :
Obi-Wan : Anakin, how do you think I should tell someone I love them ?
Anakin : very heartbroken but trying to be a good friend … well if we are past the whole attachment thing I guess you need to be direct and sincere and just tell them « I love you »
Obi-Wan : right… Anakin, I love you
Anakin : I love you too master, now go tell them
Obi-Wan : … tell me Anakin, has anyone ever told you that you are very obvious ?
Anakin : well Ahsoka mentionned that I’m kinda clueless when it comes to feelings and all… I tend to agree I genuinely think that even if someone slapped me across the head to tell me they love me, romantic way of course, I wouldn’t recognize it
Obi-Wan : proceed to slap him across the back of the head
Anakin : Ouch ! Master ! What was that for ?
Obi-Wan : stares into to camera, *nah it’s on me I should have slapped harder *
all of these are SO good I think obi-wan would just turn it into a scientific experiment at one point, just to see how far he can push it and Anakin would stay oblivious. He would say things like "darling let's just have a picnic here, just us, so we can watch the sunset together and I can lovingly stroke your hair as we fall asleep curled around each other" "oh that sounds great! yeah let's do it! ahsoka will be so jealous she couldn't join us ahah" "......fascinating"
This is absolutely hilarious, after the 14th attempts where even Rex ended up blushing, Obi-Wan decide to carry a little notepad to write down everything and Anakin’s reaction like :
Obi-Wan : my darling I think we should fall asleep together, you pressed against my chest and my arms all around you
Anakin : what an excellent idea ! I read somewhere that being cuddled improve sleep pattern master !
I have this hc that during the first years of apprenticeship, Anakin would be all over Obi-Wan, relentlessly asking so many questions about everything but being very shy and sweet when it comes to himself like :
9-years-old-sweet-bean-Anakin, walking to his shared quarter : Hey Master Obi-Wan Jedi Knight Sir, I wanted to talk to you about something, it’s not really important, I can wait, I don’t want to be a bother… are you free right now ? Ohhh you are meditating, it’s fine I’ll ask you later. I just fell down from the big tree in the room of a Thousand Fountains because there was a baby lothcat stuck in one of the branch, nothing really important, the lothcat is fine but he ran away, anyway my arm kinda hurt so I’ll just sit by the wall and wait for you to be done
Obi-Wan, hyperventilating : aNAKin GO TO THE HEALING HALL I SWEAR TO THE FORCE—
Additional scene : later in their quarter
Anakin : Master are you mad at me *pout*🥺🥺🥺?
Obi-Wan : Of course not my padawan, I just wished you would be more careful
Anakin : I will be Master, so I’ve been wandering do you like lothcat ? Do you think lothcate communicate through the Force? I heard somewhere that they only meow around people so do you think we could communicate with them ? Do you think they could teach me agility ?
There were more questions after and that how Obi-Wan knew that his padawan was going to be fine. And they both went to the Archive to learn more about lothcat
OMG!!!! OMG!!! I've screaming for 18 minute straight !! Who's gonna SCREAM with me !!!!! BABY LUKE!!! DUEL OF THE FATE SOUNDTRACK !!! THE INQUISITORS!!! OBI-WAN MY BELOVED!!!!!!!! It’s GLORIOUS!!!
On May 25th shit is getting real my dudes 💙
O.M.G i screamed so much during that episode ! I mean COBB!!!! Bane !!! Grogu!! Happy non-reunion featuring Mando and Grogu !!!! Ahsoka AND Luke !!!!! Boba little nod at Din !!!! Freaking sanctuary blown up ( I HOPE the musicians are okay 😭😭😭)
Me during this episode :
You guys can you imagine if Anakin and Obi-Wan stayed in Obi-Wans apartment for a night to have fun and forget about the war and promptly got drunk and somehow the Council calls and ask both of them to come and of course Obi-Wan is willing to go and Anakin is like :
Anakin : no I won’t go this is outrageous we haven’t had a chance to relax in 4 months and the one night we take for ourselves we can’t have it ?!
Obi-Wan, knowing how to handle Anakin : it’s fine dear one, I’ll go alone since you refuse to go with your old master and let the Council believe that you can’t handle your liquor and make the right move when they need you like a grown up Jedi knight that I know you are
Anakin :
Obi-Wan :
Anakin : fine but I won’t make the first move, in fact I won’t move at all, carry me
Obi-Wan :
Anakin :
Obi-Wan : fine, piggy back or bridal style ?
Anakin : bridal style because I need to be dramatic right now
