You rushed to the door, when you heard the doorbell ring, as soon as you opened the door you were greeted by Simon.
“Are you out of your mind?“ Simon said the second he saw you. He didn't give you a chance to reply anything as he immediately walked past you.
“Hello to you too.“ You answered sarcastically before taking the bottle of wine from his hand and heading towards the kitchen taking two glasses out of the cupboard.
Handing Simon his glass you see him looking at you expectedly.
“So?“ Simon started.
“So?“ you replied giggling a little.
“Don't play with me, Y/N. You were gone for what a few hours and chaos erupted.”
“Alright, where should I start?“ you asked plopping onto your comfy couch.
“Uhm, I don't know…how about the part where you decided to quit?!“
Rolling your eyes and groaning you asked “How do you know?“
Simon didn't want to let you know he talked to Andy so he overplayed it so he continued
“Honey, I know everything. Now tell me what the hell happened?“
“Okay…“ you said inhaling deeply before you started talking.
----------
Almost an hour later you were still blabbering about the incident that eventually led to quitting your job.
The more time passed the more you began regretting your hasty decision, not sure whether it was the alcohol getting to you or because it generally was a bad idea.
Finally you stopped pacing around the room, finishing your story.
“Oh my God, that was…a lot…of information..“ Simon reacted still struggling to process everything you said.
He took a deep breath, before replying “You know I love you and always support you. I also think you have every right to be mad at Andy and it’s good you told him....BUT-”
“Oh no but’s” you whined.
“But don’t you think quitting was a little...wrong?”
“Ugh, maybe I-”
Simon cleared his throat raising an eyebrow causing you to roll your eyes at his expression.
“Okay, maybe I shouldn’t have said...certain things...but I didn’t have a choice. There’s no way in hell I’m letting that robot do whatever he wants.” you said crossing your arms.
“I know, Y/N, but quitting? Come on, you love your job how did that even cross your mind, like what happened...”
“Andy Barber happened. He just flipped everything upside down....and I...guess that was the only way out of this.” you stopped yourself from letting anything slip further.
But Simon seemed to notice, although he didn’t want you to know.
“There are so many ways. Like talking it out-”
“I tried so many times Simon. I don’t wanna be the one who has to show him that there’s a problem every time. He should notice himself. Like it’s impossible to get through to him, almost as if there is this wall around him and he’s so distant for no reason. Nobody can get through to him.”
Simon could read you like a book, he knew exactly when something bothered you and why it bothered you.
“Look, you’re right. He does seem a little more distant, I don’t know why but I’m sure he has his reasons. Nonetheless, you both need to talk, like for real talk.”
“It probably is for the best if we don’t. I don’t ever want to see him again actually.”
“Y/N, come on.”
“I’m deadass Simon, the day I started working for him my life just-Like I could’ve been in a higher position by now. Guess who’s fault it is I’m not. It’s his. According to him I wasn’t ‘ready’ for it.” you said angrily and rolling your eyes.
“I’m sure he regrets the things he did and said, maybe he’s just bad at showing that.” Simon carefully said watching your expression attentive.
“No, I have a better explanation. He is an ass. That’s it.”
“A cute one though...” Simon said taking a sip of his wine.
He started laughing when he saw the deathstare you were giving him.
“No really, Y/N. You’re both adults. Avoiding this will only make it worse. For you and him.”
“As if he cares...” you said staring into the distance.
Simon watched you closely but didn’t reply anything, knowing damn well Andy cared. Someone who doesn’t care wouldn’t have looked as misarable as Andy did when he came to his office, but he decided not to bring it up. At least not yet.
Trying to change the topic Simon leaned forward “Okay, let’s talk about why I actually am here...”
You turned your face to look at him raising your eyebrows.
“I met a super cute guy the other day and he invited us to join him for dinner, he said he would bring a friend.” Simon winked.
“I don’t know, Simon. I don’t feel like going out.”
“Please, as my birthday present.”
“You birthday is in two months.” you laughed.
“Consider it a pre-birthday gift. We haven’t been out in so long. What else would you be doing on a Saturday evening? Don’t be such a grandma.”
“Excuse me?” you asked laughing. “Wait a sec, is that why you dressed up like this?”
Simon just shrugged his shoulders.
“Give me like 20 minutes and I’ll be ready.” you said before disappearing in your room.
Simon cleaned up while you were getting ready. You changed your outfit like 10 times, before finally deciding on a cute heartcut chic black dress with a pair of your favorite heels. Your hair was loosely curled and you kept your makeup natural.
“Hey, Y/N are you ready it’s been-oh damn you look hot” Simon spoke pretending to fan air to cool himself down.
You replied with a small smile “I’m ready to go.”
“Good because our ride is here.” Simon quickly said before heading out the door.
----------
Two guys were waiting for you both in front of a restaurant, you assumed these two were Simon’s cute guy and his ‘friend’.
As Simon and you entered the restaurant you were led to a table next to the window. It was a small but beautiful restaurant. The only thing you didn’t like was how near it was to the office, but you decided to not let it bother you any further.
“Y/N, this is Ashton. Ashton this is Y/N.”
Ashton immediately said “Nice to meet you, Y/N.” you replied with only a smile.
“Oh right, I’m sorry this is Ethan.” Ashton pointed to the tall guy standing next to him.
“Nice to meet you.” Ethan said before you were met by his hazel eyes. (I wanted to give you guys the freedom of deciding other details of Ethan, like body shape, hair color and so on)
After that you all sat down and ordered your food.
Ashton and Simon were in their own bubble, while you and Ethan got to know each other better.
You found out Ethan was a lawyer too. He even knew Andy, but he was the last thing you wanted to talk about that evening, so you both quickly changed the topic and shared some other funny moments with each other. For some reason he reminded you of your ex, your first date pretty much went like this everything was good until he messed up.
From this relationship on you were extremely careful with guys, but decided not to jump into conclusions and let the evening go.
----------
As midnight neared Andy decided it was time to call it a day and go home. Not that he got much work done, the only thing on his mind were you. As he got in the car he was still thinking about how he could make it up to you.
The streets were pretty busy, there was a lot of traffic. As he came to a stop waiting for the traffic light to turn green, he looked around the area.
There were drunk people in front of clubs, people waiting for their cabs and then he saw you. With another man. Ethan Brooks to be exact. Or how Andy liked to call him ‘the biggest jerk to walk planet earth’. His heart stopped when he saw the two of you together.
What were you doing out here with him? Andy’s thoughts began to race. Did you quit so you could work for him? Did he offer you a job? Or even worse were you guys a thing?
Andy’s thoughts were interrupted when the car behind him began honking, the traffic lights switched to green, but Andy was to distracted to notice.
When he did he pressed the gas pedal and continued driving home, feeling his chest tighten.
----------
Hours went by without the four of you noticing. It wasn’t until the waiter kindly asked you to leave, that you noticed it was past midnight.
You made your way out the restaurant, waiting for everyone else to join.
Ethan was quick to ask you to continue this ‘conversation at his place’, but his eyes showed the real intentions he had. You weren’t having any of it. He was nice yes, but typical just like the other guys you went on a date with.
You kindly denied his offer and made your way home.
----------
When you entered your apartment you immediately started with your night routine. Quickly letting Simon know you got home safely you noticed you had a few missed calls from an unknown number, but you didn’t think much of it. If it was so urgent the person would call again, right?
Plugging your phone in and letting it rest on the nightstand next to your bed you fell asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow.
----------
You were woken up by the rays of sun shining through the blinds of your apartment.
Monday morning. Not that you had anything particular against it, but the fact you’d have to face Andy again for the first time since resigning made your stomach churn.
It was ridiculous how hard you were hoping not to cross Andy today, or ever for that matter. But you worked in the same office. Your office was opposite of his, sooner or later you would cross paths.
Quickly getting ready you left your apartment and in no time you were standing in front of the huge building that had your office in it. Taking a deep breath you entered the building and made your way towards your work place.
To your surprise Andy’s office was empty, very unusual for him as he was the first one to arrive and last one to leave. Maybe he had an early appointment or meeting? But you would know about it wouldn’t you?
Sitting down on your chair you began working, even searching for some potential new assistants for Andy. You were interrupted when a happy voice peeked his head into your office.
“Good morning, beautiful” Simon said entering your office completely, the biggest smile spread on his face.
“Good morning, someone’s in a very good mood today” you replied before winking at him.
“It’s a beautiful day, of course I am.”
“I’m sure something else is the reason behind that smile on your face” you said expecting Simon to tell you the reason behind his happiness.
“Good morning, Simon. How was your weekend?” you heard a familiar voice say and your heart stopped trying to look busy with whatever was in front of you.
“Good morning, Andy. It was fantastic. Thank you very much.” Simon replied.
Since when did Simon address him as Andy?
“That’s great. I’m glad it was” Andy replied smiling a little when he came into your view. That smile quickly faded when your eyes met his.
“Good morning, Y/N. Do you have a moment?” Andy asked.
Fuck. Would it be bad if you said you were super busy for the next like 10 years. You wanted to avoid this conversation at all costs, but you knew this wasn’t a solution.
“I’m actually doing something right now…” you replied carefully looking up at Andy, when you saw the begging look on his face you continued “but it can wait…”
“Okay, uhm I’ll see you later. Have a nice day Andy.” Simon said before giving Andy a weird look. What was he doing? It looked almost like Simon reassured Andy for whatever reason he had.
“You too Simon.” Andy said giving him a small nod.
Now it was just Andy and you. In your office. Awkward silence filling the room.
After what felt like an eternity you managed to speak up clearing your throat.
“So what can I do for you today?” you asked still not looking up at him but pretending to look over some files.
“Don’t leave, please.” Andy said interrupting you.
“Andy, I-”
“Please, Y/N. Let me go first.” Andy replied not giving you a chance to say anything more.
Your heart was pounding in your chest. For some reason you were afraid of what was about to come, although you didn’t know what it was.
“I know I wasn’t the easiest to work with and I’m sorry for doing or saying certain things that upset you. It wasn’t my intention. Never ever. There’s plenty of things I wouldn’t have ever made if it wasn’t for you. I know that and I appreciate that. I really do, but please understand that my actions were never meant to hurt you. I know I did plenty of times, but that was just my stupidity getting to me. I know I said I don’t trust you, but I actually do. From all the people in this building you are the one I trust most-”
“Didn’t seem like it a few days ago.” you blurted out. You didn’t mean to but it just came out of you.
“Y/N, I am sorry for that. I really am please believe me.”
“I want to. I really do but it’s just a matter of time until you do it again.”
“I promise I won’t. I am aware of my mistakes and I know I haven’t treated you the way you deserved it, but from now on I will.”
“I want to believe that. I really do, but right now I’m struggling with finding a reason to stay.” you said crossing your arms over your chest, making your way over your desk and closer to Andy.
Andy also stepped closer before the next words left his lips
“Let me be the reason. Stay for me.”
