And so the day is upon us. Leaving our beautiful guesthouse in George, and making our way to Oudshoorn today. Thanks to the owners for being very warm and caring, and welcoming us with open arms. Hey peeps.
So we’re nearing the end of our third week of rehearsals, and man has it been tough. I’ve never worked this hard in my life. I’m so passionate about this project, and my career, that I’m literally putting all my energy into doing an amazing job with this production. I’m learning a lot, thanks to Eric Nobbs who has 35 years of experience in the industry. He is a phenomenal actor, and really knows what he’s doing. We have one more week of rehearsals left, end then we head of to the KKNK in Oudshoorn, South Africa, to debut with the show. It is one of the biggest arts festivals in the country, and a terrific platform to showcase your work. Our second day of rehearsal done and dusted. I'm happy to say that we've really made a lot of progress in a mere two days. At times I become really frustrated with myself, because I'm not thinking of why the character is saying certain things, or I forget what state of mind he's in etc, but then I realise that it's only day two. I still have time to work out all the kinks. It's definitely a tricky script. It involves a lot, and I mean a lot, of story telling, about things that happened in the past etc, so trying to embody and vocalise these younger characters is quite a challenge. Since it's a two man show, you have to create all these characters they talk about throughout the play, and really make the audience feel as if these characters have a certain presence on the stage and a body of they're own, even if they're not physically there, you as the actor have to embody and visualise them. This definitely is a fantastic opportunity for me as an actor. I'm given they opportunity to embody different characters throughout the play, and if I do it justice, it will show people that I am diverse, so I have a feeling there is definitely some hard work that's waiting for me. Which reminds me, I better get back to analysing the script again. Sleep tight crazy mofo's. Peace
Today I embark on a new adventure. My +\- 5 week journey kicks off today as I start rehearsals for "'n Kat in die Duiwehok" which will be showcasing at this years KKNK in Oudtshoorn. To say I'm excited is a massive understatement. I'm looking forward to working with a new team, and can't wait to get to know everyone a little bit better. I just realised I've been really bad at keeping my blog updated. Things have been really hectic though. Been keeping busy though, which is fantastic. I just came back from JHB this weekend, where I performed at the Soweto Theatre (One of the most beautiful theatres I've been in) and I'm leaving again in September for a week of performance for "People Are Living There" and possibly in November aswel. We've also been asked to perform at this year's Cape Town Fringe Festival. I'm sad to say that I wont be able to perform though, as we're doing day performances and I'll still be busy with arepp:Theatre for Life (Which is going amazing, go check out their page). I've been working for this amazing organization for almost a year now, and everyday I learn something new. I'm grateful for all the opportunities I've had this year. I performed "As Alles Blou Is" again at this year's Deurbraak Festival, and wil potentially be performing again at the Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre in October. Also doing a two week run of People are Living There at the Galloway Theatre, which will also take place in October. I've had such an amazing year so far, and I've met incredible people, and I've had the opportunity to work with some of them. To say I'm grateful doesn't even come close to what I feel. I can only hope that 2016 holds the same exciting endeavours. Thanks to everyone who has supported me up until this point. You guys are amazing.
So rehearsals are going great at the moment. We're really an amazing team, and I get to work with wonderful people. I'm working really hard at the moment, and I guess it comes with the territory of trying to make a name for yourself out there. You really need to push hard to reach certain goals in life, but I trust it all works out in the end, and hard work goes a long way. Peole take notice, and when you combine a great work ethic with talent, good things are bound to happen. Well it's 01:36 AM and I'm off to bed. What a week. It's been one hella crazy weekend. Had a houseparty for our housemates birthday, and also reh areas everyday. I love the fact that I'm keeping busy, but some off time every now and again would be great. This weekend was filled with amazing views and amazing food. Cape Town is one exeptionally beautiful town. I only moved here 6months ago, but I want to to some exploring in the city soon, and hopefully get some great photos. Above are some shots I took over the weekend. Up bright and early this morning and in need of a nice strong cup of coffee. Today I will be doing my last puppet show for the educational theatre organization I work for. Doing two shows today, and then it's back to the office and time to hand in a lengthy report about the whole tour, and how the learners experienced the show and how it was received. Doing these shows are always extremely enlightening. It really makes you appreciate what you have in life. Mostly we travel to underprivileged schools in rural areas. This becomes one massive eye opener, and makes you think the next time you want to complain about something. Anyway, I'm off. Hope you guys have a fantastic day, and to those who are still nice and cozy, sleeping silently in their warm beds.....wake up! Your being rude while the rest of us have to work! Late night with rehearsal. Finally got home. Things are going really well, just a little bit draining, but I'm Really excited to be working on this project. Especially because it’s a play from one of the most renowned theatre practitioners out there, Athol Fugard. I’ve had the opportunity to meet him in person, and he’s a lovely man. I’m sure we’ll do his work justice, and we’re definitely putting a fresh twist on his play “People are living there”.

Morning world. Hope you all had an amazing nights rest, and a great day so far (for those with a time difference). I’m up and on the go this morning. Heading to some schools to perform a puppet show for the kiddies. It’s part of an educational theatre organization I work for. We travel within the Western Cape, South Africa and perform to the youth of the nation, hopefully enriching their lives and helping them understand certain things that might have been unclear. The show we are doing at the moment discusses topics of “good” and “bad” secrets, and how you get a bad feeling from certain types of touches (I’m a sense molestation, but we need to explain in on a level that children from the ages between 6 and 9 can unserstand)
These are the puppets we work with. They really are an interesting bunch and they get n life of their own. Really gonna miss these buggers when I wrap this show/tour up.

So rehearsals are fun. We're working on an Athol Fugard play at the moment called "People are living there". It's for the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa. It's an absolutely brilliant play and I can't wait to perform it. We're working with an amazing director and co-director, and their vision us absolutely inspiring. This is me. Welcome to my blog. Hopefully I can entertain you in my day to day struggles as an actor. I’m from South Africa, live in Cape Town, and trying to make a living as an actor. I’ve been fortunate the past few months, I’ve been able to work and not worry about money for a change, but being an actor, I’m never sure when my next paycheck will arrive.
