My opinion on the 2016 elections,
Last night I somehow was able to be view a secret trump supporter group on facebook and now I get it. I get why they voted for him. Many of those people were struggling to get jobs in this economy. They would apply for jobs and they would be turned down because an immigrant could be exploited for their labor by a business owner. Why pay full benefits for a white person, when an immigrant can do it for a fraction of the cost... is what those business owners were thinking. Some of those people were college graduates on welfare. Some of the people were too broke to afford Obamacare. Of course, some of those people were blatantly racist, calling Michelle Obama Harambe, using the words wetback etc etc but honestly that was maybe 10% of the stuff I read on there. After that Harambe joke there was actually lots of people telling that one person that she was wrong, that the Obamas were classy people and that Michelle Obama was beautiful. There were other instances I saw where someone would say something racist and other people would chime in and say "yo Bro, wtf?" Lots of trump supporters were applauding the fact that Obama handled things gracefully. Called him a class act. The people were both uneducated and educated Americans (mostly white, some Latino, some Muslim) who are just simply sick of being a poor person in this country. They felt this country has failed them. Trumps campaign manager understood this anger and pandered to them heavily. Their campaign strategy was to play to those ideals that they would indeed make this country great again. His campaign manager is a white woman by the way so we can now stop asking ourselves how the heck 53% of white woman voted for him...they played their cards well. One other thing, someone asked "what's the difference between the GOP and the dems?" And they answered "the Dems want more federal control in their states for things like welfare and the GOP wants less federal control more control at the state level" Honestly who the heck doesn't want that!! Lmao, especially living in California!!! Like gavin newsom said a lot of people are looking to California. We are the future. I want us to be our own damn country! (Honestly, can't believe I typed that paragraph.....repubs ! They're just like us!) I get them now, and although I don't believe in ANYthing of what they're saying I understand why they would feel that way. However, what they don't understand is that they could build a wall as tall as they want. But like a quote I read somewhere "immigrants aren't climbing no wall to get here, they are flying in, with an H-1B workers visa"...they are here to do the jobs that we are not qualified to do. I see it every day here in the Bay Area. Coders, engineers, all the tech jobs are being filled by people of different countries because the USA can't produce students and employees like that. So if trump is really going to stop immigration, and people really want jobs you better strap on your coding hat and get ready for those jobs that are just going to flourish. (Sarcasm) Robotics is the way of the future and I went to a teacher convention in St. Louis where they stated that if we are not teaching our students how to control, code, and handle these robots we are going to be failing them. I feel for the uneducated whites because the types of jobs they will be offered is something they can not do. Unless trump changes the education curriculum to be focused more on robotics, we will continue to need those immigrants...supply and demand. Just like Bernie said, on the aspect of jobs going overseas or poor people living in this country, I am willing to work with those people to see change in our communities. Like bernie said, on the aspect of humiliating people, saying horribly racist things, making unjust generalizations of people based on the color of their skin, I am not with trump. I will protest and scream and kick until people see that this is absolutely not okay. As a behaviorist, I see that their racism has now been positively reinforced to the highest degree. The racists are coming out in full force. So that's the #1 reason trump won. #2 the dnc totally shot themselves in the foot with this one. Just because they thought it was "her" time. Shame shame..... #3 The media played a huge effect on this election. Social media gave this election to trump. Just like when the radio came out, when the tv came out, when the internet came out...this time around social media influenced the way we made decisions. His name sells, just like the kardashians (in fact they have the same strategy of "no such thing as bad press") We let him get this big every time we clicked on an article. They say journalism is a dying job but it's probably because the only thing that generates money is shitty ass stories, who fought who? That's the stuff we chimps wanna click on ...forget the uneducated whites, we are our own worst enemy. We have to look at our behaviors. It happened during the election and it's happening now. Media paints these protestors as looters. They are showing that fights broke out at 2 am at the SJSU rally but they DON'T show the peaceful protesting that went one from 3pm- late with families. Why? Because nobody is going to click on that. We want to see people fighting each other...we keep clicking on these articles that are showing racists true colors. We are only making more money for the media. And to people saying this could've been the same thing with Hillary. Yes, joe Walsh tweeted that if Hillary won he would bring out his gun and riot ...but honestly if she would've won I DOUBT that the repubs would've done the soul searching that I did last night. They most def were not gonna go through our "hill supporters groups" and try to see our side of the story. Most definitely if she would've won there would NOT BE KIDS GOING THROUGH emotional distress....American born citizens asking if they are going to be deported, kids being targeted in the playground, kids asking if they could not go to school, parents asking kids to not wear the hijabs to school .. at the end if the day that's my only concern is the children. Sure we can handle the evil stuff said about the color of our skin but can they?? When they themselves sre trying to figure out what the world is all about? Y para todos mis latinos que no pudieron votar, acuérdense que ustedes tienen el poder de votar diario, con sus carteras. Nosotros somos la mayoría y nosotros dictamos los productos que nos venden (por ejemplo hagan boycott Walmart o cualquier compañía y vean que rápido cambian las cosas) y ojalá esto los motive para hacerse ciudadanos. Necesitamos su ayuda ahora más que nunca. Soooooo yeah. Felt like I needed to get that off my chest lol We can kill ourselves with anxiety due to the fear we feel about what might happen. Or we can work on helping others, work to be less divisive, using our metacognition to understand both sides (not the racist side, there's no way I can understand that lol the poor Americans side) We are more alike than we are different. We may have fucked up this time but I'm still proud to be an American citizen. Thanks for listening :)
