the losers getting high — headcanons

• one day, down at the quarry, richie and bev make the best decision of their lives — smoking pot with all the rest of the losers. it’s a wild ride.

a) richie:

richie always calms down insanely when he’s high. the higher he gets, the sleepier too. on that particular day, he tries to show off — so he hits it a L O T. bev warns them that they won’t even recognize him, and she’s right. he curls his body up around stan, nuzzles himself into the crook of his shoulder, and doesn’t quite fall asleep, but gets really sleepy and answers any questions asked of him.

b) bill:

bill can’t not take his shirt off? he’s immediately like, “guys i’m so fucking hot” and just tears it off before flopping down on his back. he proceeds to start gushing about his choice loser of the day — bev, stan, eddie, or ben are the most common. he just goes on and on about how much he loves them, and why he loves them, and gosh he just wants to hold them and protect them all the time!

c) eddie:

eddie PUKES. he inhales, thinks he’s fine for a fat second — and then richie starts egging him on to hit it again and he’s not prepared at all. but he does, and he just blows chunks over the edge. everybody freaks, but he’s fine — he’s really fucking out of it, and won’t stop touching bill’s face and telling him how much he worships him. it’s bad. everyone considers flinging eddie off the cliff.

d) ben

ben doesn’t hit it! he promises to watch everybody else and make sure that they’re safe instead. truthfully, he’s really nervous about everybody learning lots of dark secrets about him, or something. he also wants them all to be safe.

e) beverly

beverly is the QUEEN of getting stoned. she does some hella great smoke tricks and she loooks hot. whenever she’s high, though, she either gets really hungry or really horny. there’s no in between. at least one loser ends up covered in lovebites. it’s usually richie. they always make out when they’re high, they can’t help it.

f) stan

our man stan is a huuuuge lightweight. he gets just a bit giggly, but mostly, he’s really into,,, saying even weirder shit then he usually does and feeling the texture of other people’s clothes??? he falls asleep on the nearest warm body pretty quick.

g) mike

mike is actually really chill. he never smokes (not that often, at least) so he and ben just have some good, deep conversations, especially about derry and its history. they also talk a lot about mike’s cutest farm animals. he’s just really mellow!

like he would place his head on mike’s lap who would silently thread a hand into the wild mess, twirling curls around a pointer finger. the rest of the losers would be bewildered at a sober, quiet richie with half closed eyes and a content smile twitching at the corners of his lips.

so, everyone started doing it.

beverly would attempt to braid the curls whenever they would get high and poor rich would be absently there, the weed making him calmer and the playing of his hair releasing all tension in his body. he would talk in a soft voice, softer than bev would ever imagine was possible, and answer her questions without abrasions of offensive jokes.

ben would use it whenever richie would talk too much and a little too much. (just enough for ben to know something was wrong) “c’mere,” ben would whisper and he’d pull richie close to him before beginning to untangle all the curls with his fingers. richie would continue to fidget until his body slowly relaxed and he would curl up to ben’s side and just cuddle the boy until he was calmer and then, he would ask richie what was wrong.

it took bill awhile to finally do it but he used it when richie caught him in a middle of a breakdown. richie had stormed into bill’s bedroom and caught him holding georgie’s yellow jacket, sobbing violently into it. the boy wrapped his arms around his best friend and started rambling: “i’m sorry big bill i’m sorry georgie got hurt and i’m sorry we couldn’t help him, i’m so-” and bill would look up to see richie tearing up as well and he’d stare at the other boy, unable to say anything so he’d pull richie closer and richie would rub bill’s back and bill would run his hands through richie’s hair. now whenever they notice the other person upset, they’ll do what they know to calm them down.

although, constantly to popular belief, stan was a very affectionate man in private. if he knew the person was clean (and he often got richie to shower at his house how could the boy live in such filth), he’d be wrapped around them like a vine. he’d put on movies and pull richie up into his chest and they’d silently watch the movie, richie’s ear resting against his chest and stan’s hands in his hair. it was the softer part of their relationship, the rarity of silence and contentment. no jokes, no threats, nothing. just the love between them.

and eddie would use it to his advantage, the sly brat. whenever richie would talk or make a mum joke, he’d reach up and tug on the boy’s hair and hiss “beep beep, rich.” if he pulled a little too hard, richie would flush a deep red but the memo was caught. to be honest, eddie loved a silent richie in the middle of the night, especially if he snuck through eddie’s window and eddie knew his mother was still awake. they’d lay in the dead of the night, eddie murmuring softly into the cloth of richie’s t-shirt and richie humming softly as he turn his head into eddie’s hand

they love their trashmouth but sometimes, seeing him quiet and content (and not feeling like he’s talking to just fill silence) is blissful.

stanlon - soft and talkative. theyre lives are full of too much so they lie together. there are no expectations and everything is harmonious.

benverly - an eventuality. theyre lines were meant to cross but they didnt know how or when, or when they would stop being friends and be more. what they didn’t know is that the line between wasnt a single event but a progession. they arent then they are.

reddie - emotions and hard topics. when theyre alone they forgo to jokes for the tough conversations. emotions run high but high risk means a high reward.

stozier - raw and desperate. they had been needing to say it for too long and it comes quick and it comes heavy. its been lying underneath them for years but only now can they see it.

stenbrough - it’s easy and easily explained. of course it would be them. they listen and speak in whispers. it’s love, baby. and it’s baseball tees and getting dirt on the bottom of your shoes from small adventures.

hanbrough - it’s laying in bed and listening to records. it’s the scratch on a vinyl record and its the smell of dusty books. they live and hang out. it doesnt need to be defined.

beverie - it’s what it’s not that tells you what it is. it’s not nothing. it’s not feeble and it’s not going away easy. it’s freckles and curly hair with i love yous in the way of nicotine. it’s sitting on laps and sharing sweaters. it’s not easy and it’s not soft. edgy and unkind.

hanzier - the eye of a hurricane where the chaos around them suddenly calms for just a moments. it’s rides in rickety pick up trucks and stargazing without knowing what the constellations are. something isn’t spoken and something needs to be said but they dont. it isn’t like what other people think.

kaspbrough - it’s the longrun. it’s thinking about their childhood. its wearing tee shirts that are too big and hastily kicking off shoes. black and white movies and old radio hits. it’s hopeful.

bichie - it’s teasing and laughing. jokes and elbow bumping. a little awkward but loving looks. it wasn’t considered until it was there and it felt like fireworks and coming home after being gone a long time.

steddie - it’s careful. it’s talking about everything and fingers raking through hair. it’s pen doodles on skin and comparing hand sizes to see whose is bigger. it’s considerate and it’s uncontrollable smiles.
