Though still surprised, the moment Jasper had realized who it was he’d already expected some level of judgement to be shown to him—It was inevitable, of course, for a first meeting, and especially between two such individuals who were practically scheduled to become legal relatives. Even so, he could not help but feel a prick of anxiety run up through his chest at the feeling of being so obviously evaluated, likely by the same vein of skill that Mycroft also possessed. Regardless, he did his best to stand tall and appear as though he were entirely unaffected: an ability he was quite confident in after decades of necessary practice.
His entire body felt as though it sunk into the very ground at the notion of Mr. Holmes staying for an elongated period, delaying his movements but not breaking his disposition. “…I see. How lovely of you to drop in for a visit now.” Voice dripping with only a public sort of congeniality (for they both knew of Mycroft’s aversion to surprises), he stepped aside and motioned in with his hand, just as he would welcoming a guest of his employer’s home. “Mycroft should be in this evening, but I’m certain you know how his work can be. Were you planning on staying for dinner?”
“Dinner would be lovely. Thank you for the invitation,” Siger responded as he entered the house. He had not arrived with plans to stay for a meal but it was being offered, so why refuse? It would be, he decided, a good excuse to further assess the other’s eligibility. Not that he was ever going to deem him good enough, of course.
As he took his coat off, he made a show of glancing around the hall. “I was not aware that my son kept such an unkempt home,” Siger commented, perfectly aware that his ‘observation’ was utter nonsense. The state of the house was actually rather tidy. This was unsurprising. Even if his son’s partner had not been cleaning beforehand, he knew that Mycroft was very particular about how he kept things. Siger merely wanted the other man to feel inadequate (because, well, he was).
“It’s Jasper, yes?” he then said, turning to offer a handshake - his displeasure not enough to stop him from following first meeting procedure as he knew his should. “Sir Siger Holmes, though you have permission to call me Siger should you deem it appropriate.” Not something that he particularly wanted to offer, but he knew that it was expected of him.
