My Enderman theory is that all of the creatures are souls that were cursed as they moved to the afterlife, or those that were in the process of dying. Those that were cursed after their death resided in The End, an alternate 'heaven' forever ruled over by the Ender Dragon. Those that were cursed as they died, they were left in the real world as their souls were not able to travel above the clouds. Thus the reason why that some spawn in real world and why the others in The End.
Due to this belief of mine, I theorized that, at one point, Rythian was dying because of an accident that occurred in a science laboratory. He was too, cursed to become an Enderman, but for some reason, the turning process was rather slow. However, he was abandoned by his family and friends because they were afraid of the curse. This is why Rythian hates science so much, because if it wasn't for the accident in the laboratory, none of this would have happened.
Luckily, he managed to meet an elderly wizard along the way that was interested in this curse. The wizard, who also happened to be the exact same wizard that magicked Rythian's mask, offered to help slow down the curse with what knowledge he had. He could only slow it down so much, but it was something at least. Sadly, the curse did progress enough to change Rythian significantly. These changes include the strip of brownish-blonde hair (which is actually his natural hair colour, but the curse was slowly making his hair turn darker and darker until it was black), his jaw morphing into one of an Enderman's, teleportation, and his dislike of water.
He ended up staying with the wizard, having nowhere else to go. Rythian was taught the art of magic, which helped him battle the Enderman curse. Unfortunately, the wizard soon passed away, and he was left alone once again.
Rythian tried to fit in and join other communities, but most turned him away because of his abnormality. This is why he prefers to stay alone, rather than being very outgoing and making many friends.
He also encountered the Ender Queen, aka the Ender Dragon, at one point during his travels. The Queen disliked knowing that her curse had managed to be voided (in some way) which really damaged her pride. Thus, she ordered for his destruction, and their little 'feud' had been going on ever since.
Soon, he managed to find a moderately quiet little village to reside in, this being the village with Duncan, Sjin, Zoey, and the others. Rythian simply kept to himself, building his mage tower and creating large quantities of red and dark matter, battling the curse and finding ways to strengthen his magic, etc. Then the events of the Tekkit War occurred, and the events in the Blackrock Chronicles.
During the series, the curse relatively stayed dormant, rarely ever acting up. When Zoey and Teep abandoned Rythian and left to the Brown Rebels' secret base, the curse had managed to grow and take over parts of Rythian's mind because he was too depressed about Zoey leaving him. However, when she came back, he found the reason to fight against the curse once again, and it soon became less of an issue.
Rythian (the person) had stated earlier on his tumblr that there were bits of grey hair in Rythian's (the character's) hair. How does this tie to my giant headcannon? Well, in exchange for using up basically all his magic on Zoey to keep her alive, it decreased his mental power against fighting the curse. Rythian wasn't just going to give up, with having Zoey and Teep now in his life. He, obviously, still tried as hard as he could, but this was extremely mentally and physically tiring. This took a toll on his body, causing grey hair, getting physically weaker, and more. It could have also explained why he was needing Potions of Swiftness as well as he was mining in the first episode of The Blackrock Chronicles: Rising.
Of course, I know that a good chunk (or even all of it) is probably wrong canon-wise, but this is what I believe to be true until the real details are revealed.
