“something like that. i was never very big on sayings.” there was a shrug in regards to her next question, fingers tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “i didn’t mind it. i mean – it was never anything i had an issue with. i just didn’t want to become used to it like i did.”

     “me either - they’re never as true as people think they are.” if home is where the heart is, it means her heart is in the scattered ashes of her home and family. it’s better to just picture it in her chest where it belongs. “that’s fair - i can’t imagine moving around a lot as a kid. must’ve been hard - sorry to come across as nosy or anything like that.”

“i’m— i don’t know, i doubt we could even count? at this point, i bet there’s THOUSANDS? especially just in NEW YORK state? in the city especially!” eyebrows creased together, orbs wide as she stared at laura. “b-babysitter? i’m not twelve, you know? although i do look young, i admit.” kira was slightly offended, but she let it go. “we all take care of ourselves; we have been for QUITE a while now. wh-why are you so curious?”

     “if there are thousands of supernatural kids running around new york state i’m going to tear my hair out.” because laura can’t look over thousands of kids - sometimes she could barely handle watching over derek and cora. “i don’t know - - - you’re pretty small looking. how old are you? sixteen? seventeen?” eyes narrow at the girl for a moment before she shakes her head. “you shouldn’t have to take care of yourself. you’re a kid.” laura doesn’t like how that sounds quite a while now. “’cause i’m a werewolf and you are not human. what are you? not a wolf - huh.”

“home will always be home, no matter what it’s like.” sue definitely understood where the other was coming from. “i moved around a lot so it really depends on which point in my life you want to know about. but i grew up in long island for a bit.”

     “yeah. it’s where the heart is, or whatever.” laura smiles softly, but it’s a cold sort of smile, half-deadened as she thinks about the burnt out shell of her own home, charcoal stained and husk like. “did you like that? moving around?”

sue couldn’t help but shake her head at the woman’s answer, amusement dancing across her features. “sounds intense.” she remarked with a grin, fingers pushing backwards through blonde hair. “i can see why you got out.”

     “it can be.” it can be really intense. death and fire and werewolves intense. laura isn’t going to say that last part out loud to a stranger, but it still stands. “yeah. but it’s still home, so.” she shrugs and shakes her head a bit, dark bangs falling into her eyes at the motion. “where are you from?”

“sometimes it does. others not so much.” there was a half shrug, before she’s nodding her head as the other continued to speak. “never heard of it – sorry. but is it as quaint as it sounds?”

     laura barks out a laugh, shaking her head. sure, with the nature preserve and small town vibes beacon hills might seem like a quaint place to live, but - “it’s like one of the nine circles of hell. or all of the circles of hell smashed together to make one even worse circle of hell.” it might seem a little overdramatic, but she’s not lying.

     here’s the thing about dying and being dead for an unknown but apparently lengthy time : falling asleep kind of feels like dying. like closing your eyes against the pain and a familiar face is the same as drifting off in a comfortable bed. so when laura swings into the room with somewhat heavy eyelids and a tight smile on her face it shouldn’t be too surprising. “how does going out sound to you?”

“that’s what i am. i’m a lapis lazuli. but i believe people on this planet prefer the term alien.” she says it as if it’s normal—that woman would have no reason to be confused at all. it is normal for the gem, but she doesn’t realize how strange her world really is. “you agree that this planet is a mess? great. gonna love it here.” her tone is dripping with sarcasm.

     “a lapis lazuli. like - the stone?” claiming to be an alien laura can handle - she’s always believe in aliens in the vague ‘they could exist’ way ( earth can’t be the only planet in the vastness of space to host living beings, it really can’t ). but ‘i’m a rock’? it’s a little questionable. “ok. is everyone a rock where you’re from?” she tries not to sound too disbelieving before she snorts a bit. “only idiots think earth isn’t a mess. humans are dumb and messy and nothing is ever simple.”

          “i’ve been a technical member for a while…. trust me i know. nothing ever works out for any of us.” everyone dies or leaves. she sighed slightly and looked down to the ground. “i can’t remember because… i died too. it’s been a while, that’s all i can say.”

     laura frowns a bit and winces at the mention of the girl’s own death. “sorry you got sucked into our shit.” it’s a genuine apology for how awful the things that seem to stick close to her family . “do you know what day it is, at least? starting with the basics seems like a good idea.”

riley gasped when she saw the amount of blood on the other girl. she had seen cuts and bruises from when her and her friends decided to do something foolish but she had never seen the sheer amount of blood that she was seeing now. it was moments like these that made her wish that she had a first aid kit of some kind. “you’re in new york,” she stated.

     “new york city?” she questions, looking over the girl. laura’s eyes are still flashed red, glowing and wide as fangs take up more and more of her mouth. how the hell is she back in new york? did peter ship her pieces here and then someone - what, resurrected her? this makes no sense and it’s freaking her out.

As Annie witnesses the street performer blow fire into the girl’s face, her eyes widen slightly and she walks over. “Are you okay?”

     “other than wanting to throttle half the buskers in new york? i’m doing just peachy.” that’s a pretty obvious lie, brows slanted and eyes narrowed. she’s okay but not okay.

          erica nodded slightly and let her eyes look to the floor. “a little while back… he made a pack of three of us but… it didn’t really work out.” she shrugged slightly and took in a deep breath, knowing exactly what it’s like to not be in the loop of understanding. “yeah. i kinda did… you’ve been gone a while.”

     “welcome to being a member of the hale pack. rule number one : nothing ever works out.” that’s probably a little pessimistic, but hey - her family was killed and then her family killed her. it’s pretty bleak. “how long? months? years?”

“you’re not? what are you, then? because you look nothing like a gem.” not that lapis looked anything like a gem anymore, but she had yet to realize that. “it is? that’s kind of stupid. unless europe is completely different from america. honestly, this planet is a mess.”  she grimaces, glancing around.

     “what do you mean, a gem?” one thing at a time. “i’m just not.” spilling your guts about being a werewolf to a stranger who says she’s from space probably isn’t the best plan. “yeah, things like that vary around the world. it’s different in most places. laura shrugs and offers a small smile. “it is.”

           he treats the question as rhetorical, since, no, she definitely doesn’t look like she cares, but he does, because, “i guess, but i don’t wanna leave out any key information or anything..” the difficulty is knowing what she’s going to want to know and what’s just going to be just extra to her. so family stuff it is. “well, peter killed you, obviously, and made it look like a hunter was the one who did it. he started initiating immediately, or at least he bit one person – my best friend, by the way – but when derek figured out he killed you, derek killed peter and became the alpha and went on a biting spree of his own. also peter came back to life by manipulating one of my other best friends but the logistics are beyond me. cora showed up too, she got all fucked up by mistletoe and derek gave up his alphahood to save her and then i’m presuming she went back to south africa. i dunno. she just kinda dipped. peter, surprise surprise, is still the worst and he wanted to kill my best friend that he bit so he’d be alpha again – because scott’s a true alpha, so, that’s a thing, but we shut that down so he got sent to eichen. i have no idea if he’s still there. derek evolved and can now fully shift like his – like your mom. and then he also left. beacon hills is still thriving with supernatural life, but, no hales.”

     “ - - - so peter’s still alive.” the so i can go kill him is pretty heavily implied. laura’s never really thought of killing family, of killing pack, but now? hey, he started it. but that was a lot of information to take in at once. fucking peter, what the hell? what happened to family? laura lets a hand press tiredly against her face as she bristles at the mess her family has become in her absence. well, they’d been a mess since the fire, but not...an active mess. not a mess that pulled in random teenagers from beacon. also - seriously, derek? teenagers? she’s met one of them and erica had said friends so she’s assuming they’re all kids. she huffs out a breath and shakes her head. “okay. great! i have a murderous uncle, a dumb-ass brother who decided to turn kids, and my younger sister is possibly missing.” she pauses to mutter a few choice words under her breath before looking to the boy before her. “am i getting it right so far?”
