I love alther bc he literally is the character who died before the story began and is haunting everyone except like. Actually. Like he's a ghost. And he's normal abt it. Everyone else is normal abt it. He's literally just a grandpa except he's dead and can do ghost things

childhood books that are so fucked up on the reread part 1 of infinty: septimus heap. our guy was a child soldier from birth. the entire city-state dealt with an oppressive police state for a decade, waiting for the monarchy to resurface. this fucking necromancer will not ever go away. not after the first time he dies and certainly not after the fifth. you'd think he'd be bored by now. some old queen moved a tower to the other side of the palace for no reason. the main character got time-kidnapped for six months and had to live in the same place that all his loved ones had not been born in yet. his best friend was raised by wolverines. his other best friend is named Beetle. the castle is called The Castle. there's a defunct nuclear reactor underneath it. some of the rats can talk and have human levels of intelligence and people still put out rat traps and try to kill them. there's a fuckin time purgatory that some guy thought everyone would love even as an increasing number of random lost travelers got trapped there forever. if you think you know all the secret tunnels under this place no you don't. and you can rent pink paddleboats in the summer

little drawing of septimus and jenna because i just reread the series and Needed to draw them but couldn't think of any interesting drawings to make...kind of annoying that the Queen Rules is red because i really wanted to draw jenna with it but there's simply no contrast against her dress whatsoever. oh well

Small things I love about the Septimus Heap books:

This is a universe where you can have an actual pet rock. Petroc Trelawney has my whole heart and should also have yours.

At one point, an iguana was mowing the loan

The misadventures of Stanley, the rat having to deal with the Heaps (tm) in every book and his failed marriage and the adoption of his children + his job. He is doing his best, okay ?

Grandpa Benji went into the forest one day and never came back, living his life as a tree int he forest.

Sam. I know he is not little but I love Sam Heap and he deserves to be appreciated (the moments between him and Sep are great)

Medieval world ? Yes totally. Is that a submarine and an elevator ? Yes. Don't worry about it. There is no implications here of this being a post-apocalyptic futuristic world. What are you talking about ?

And considering what Sep says to her after and the fact that he was a child soldier without a name until he was 10,it probably wasn't the first time for him

Sleuth, Simon's emotional support tennis ball. It's very busy considering Simon is Simon and would need a lot of emotional support. It is also doing its best and should stop being taken by little brats .

Marcia and her fashion choices (tm). Does she need the pointy purple python shoes ? Nooooo. We wouldn't have her without them though.

The illustrations. They are so good. I love them so much.

im rereading septimus heap and i remembered your fanart… i actually love this series SO MUCH and ur like the only other person i know who’s read it AND MADE FANART so like. hi i guess. thanks!!!!! for the awesome fanart. ugh i love them so much

yeah sep heap is definitely one of those books from my childhood that are sort of permanently ingrained in my brain and im pretty sure had a lasting effect on how i approach fantasy. something something stories that center on family and friendship something nontraditional fantasy with folklore influences. somethin about the illustrations too i think. anyway here's a doodle for you.

Absolutely!!!

Simon's from a litter of 7 puppies, and Jenna was the only girl in her litter, which is the reasoning for their names. Simon's 2 and Jenna's almost 1. My two other cats are Ivy, who's 3, and Jack (Jenna's brother)

Here's the progression of Simon and Jenna's relationship! He wasn't sure how to react to her at first, but he's used to her affection now
