Getting some pretties
It never fails to amaze me that a victims sexual preferences can be used in this manner. A persons fetishis are never justification for this kind of assault. The realm of BDSM has guidelines and people enter into consensual partnerships based on trust and respect. What this brute did to this woman sickened me then as it does now. She may well have enjoyed the idea of having it a bit rough, with an aspect of force but is quoted in the article as saying she had rules for the role play to ensure safety. How that os relevant to what actually happened eludes me. Except for the fact that he clearly can not respect limits and did not care for her wishes. He should get the maximum punishment and more for what he did to her.

10 Gaslighting Signs in an Abusive Relationship (new video: Jan 8th)
Please listen to these, if any apply, please seek help and get out of the relationship, it’s not safe
Can you guys help share this so it can benefit more of the Psych2Go community?
I found 7/10 of these things in my Grandparents.
This video shows so many things my ex did... I've started blogging about that relationship because I want people to know what it can be like, because the manipulative aspects can be really misunderstood
Days are gone...
Something nice to ramble on about today. I got my birthday present today. My birthday is Feb 14.... and one of my all time fave bands is playing in Manchester on the 15th, so I now have tickets for go see them. It'll be my 5th time seeing them since they reunited in 2014, and I'm hoping I will get to meet up and have a good chat again like last year, as this time they're playing support to another band (who I'm also excited to go see, just not quite as much) beauty of support is, by time they get off stage there's still the rest of the night to drink :)

Red flags..
Abuse begins in many different ways. Most often it is a system of undermining self confidence and esteem to gain a very subtle control. For me it was targeting things I was already low in confidence about. My looks and my size. There were small comments made to begin with, questioning my choice of clothes and making suggestions for alternatives. Complimenting me for dressing the way he wanted. Completely innocent comments. I started to rely on him, was doubting myself and reluctant to make choices for myself, because obviously he knew what was best for me. That was when he started buying things for me, I questioned weather we could afford them but he said he had it all worked out. To trust him. So I trusted him. And it continued. He took control of our money, of what I wore, what I ate, how I did my make up…. everything. And I let him because I trusted him.
i had no idea that any of this was abuse, and many people don’t realize that now. that financial abuse and emotional abuse, they do exist and they are serious.
undermining a persons confidence and ability to support themselves is serious. once a person looses the confidence to question their abuser, once they have no finances to escape, the physical abuse can begin.
when your friends are dictated to you and your social support network are gone, where do you turn?
being isolated and controlled in this manner is a serious red flag that in hindsight, i can see as the beginning of something terrible.
not only do we need to be aware of abuse, we need to be aware of the red flags, they are there if you know what to look for.
I put up a high-voltage fence around my property last weekend, my neighbour is dead against it!
This is just shocking.

Pregnant and abused
1 in 4 women will experience abuse in thier lifetimes. 30% of this starts during pregnancy, existing abuse may get worse during pregnancy or after birth. Abuse during pregnancy can cause miscarriage infections and more. Some scary statistics, but what do these statistics actually mean? Here's a story from behind the statistics. I had been with him for only a few months and the emotional abuse was well underway, not that I realised it. That's how it starts in many cases, a few comments, insults here and there that get overlooked. You don't consider abuse nor even a red flag, he's just stressed out isn't he? And besides, you did nag at him... that's what you tell yourself and it sets in slowly like bringing a frog to the boil. That's how it was for me. A slow burn until I was 2 months pregnant. He'd been growing distant from me, going out drinking until really late, waving aside my concerns saying his friends wanted to celebrate me and him having a baby. I had to stay home because he was keeping me safe. Not good to be out late at all, can't I just accept that he cares for me... and it continue. One night however, he came home with a bite mark on his shoulder, I made a huge mistake, I asked where it came from. I had suspicions that he was cheating on me, there was evidence. He said a mate had done it for a laugh, I didn't believe him. I turned my back on him to get back into bed, and to hide my tears. I'm such a baby crying over nothing, he always said so. Then I felt him grab my ankle. Hard. He started to drag me backwards off the bed and I panicked. I yanked my ankle back and tried to crawl across the bed but he pulled me flat and told me to do as I was told. My memory gets fuzzy here, I mostly remember the wooden edge of the bed digging into my stomach as he forced me to kneel over the bed, that wooden edge hurt and all I could think of was the wee kidney bean shaped foetus growing inside me, my baby. The rape itself was mercifully quick, painful but fast. I remember thinking how strange it was how gentle his tee-shirt was brushing against my skin, how something could be so gentle during something so scary and painful. Mostly I was worried that he'd kill my baby, that wooden was digging into my belly so hard, I'd been thrust against it so much, surely I was going to loose the baby. It was good I hadn't fought him. I don't remember getting into bed, nor what he did after. I don't remember the next morning either. It didn't even cross my mind to tell the police, my midwife, anyone. After all, I didn't fight him, I let him do it, and he was drunk too. I justified it and buried it. Leaving him most certainly wasn't an option. Single mums are bad. Kids need mums and dads. Happy families. All I could think about was what my baby 'should' have. I had absolutely no idea about the support that would have been available to me. No idea that children can grown up perfectly well adjusted in a number of different households. My story doesn't end there, but that's all I can tell for today. People ask why women don't leave those kinds of relationships. The answer is simple. Fear. Fear of the repercussions. Fear that they're wrong, you can get so institutionalised into believing g it's all your fault. Even today, I still believe that. And I've been free for nearly 9 years. Just a happy thought, my baby, she's still here. As I write this she's stealing my biscuits and playing with her brother. But they're stories for another time.
My wee baba...
My mother in law has decided to let me become a serial killer again. Either that or she wants my friends to hate me... not too sure. The blue and purple skittle bottles are sake as I ran out of vodka...
Confession time.
I hurt myself again. After over 8 years, I caved. It hurts less to feel the pain on my skin than it does to feel it inside. So I broke quite a few promises too... that felt awful. Over 8 years and still no lesson learnt, that the release is only temporary. It never fixes what's underneath. Isn't it a definition of insanity? Trying something repeatedly expecting the results to change? That being said, that's also good science... though I'm biased, I'll say anything to justify what I want to do right now, though I'll never advocate it as a coping method to anyone else.... so I'm also a hippocryte. I am doing things differently this time though. I'm talking about it. About the reasons why I did it 8 years ago and before that. About why I still want to. I'm talking to a psychologist about it. But I'm also going to start this whole blogging thing. Too many people are quiet about these struggles, the struggles of depression, anxiety, domestic abuse, and rape. I'm a statistic, we all are. But we 're also people, victims. And I'm going to tell my story. Not because I think I'm special, or all that interesting. But because I know I'm one of many, 1 in 4 women suffer what I have in thier lifetimes, and every woman will feel alone. I know I'm not alone and I'm here to tell others that there not. TLDR: I self harmed again after 8 years because domestic abuse sucks. And I suck too because self harm doesn't work.
