Ok, it's finally done. Home is a place, home is a person.
This story is my first major piece after several years of art block, and I'm so glad I could finally get back to drawing.
Huge thanks to my dear friend @chancekeyĀ for the support.

Are you currently suffering from The Character?
Network Effect, Martha Wells
ART as a character is great because it's an answer to the age-old question of "what if you encountered what's essentially a man-made eldritch horror and it was so fucking annoying about it"
more platform decay stuff because these scenes were too cute
ok a few more a few more
This is the best ad for Project Hail Mary I have ever seen. Like if I was on the fence about watching or reading it, this would convince me to do so.
Something I do find lovely about the first 4 Murderbot Diaries books (canāt yet speak on all of them) is:
Murderbot chronically finding new scientists/travellers to claim as āclientsā (whether paid or not) like one of those sheepless herding dogs that goes around finding sheep (or anything else they can herd like a flock of sheep). Like it clearly has a protect humans instinct and a desperate need for enrichment.
Given its general lack of self awareness and unreliable narrator status, thereās no way in hell Murderbot is aware itās doing this.
A change in appearance
the absolute funniest thing about the murderbot diaries is the sheer contrast between murderbotās inner monologue and its actual actions.
murderbot in its head: i am a cold, heartless security unit. i literally do not care about these fragile, stupid humans. i wish they would stop talking to me. i just want to sit in my cubicle, ignore my duties, and watch my space soap operas in absolute silence. humans are messy and annoying.
murderbot in reality: [immediately throws its heavy armored metallic body in front of a deadly plasma blast, gets its limbs blown off, hacks three enemy gunships simultaneously, and bleeds corporate artificial fluids just to make sure its human clients donāt get a single scratch]
the humans afterward: "oh my god, thank you so much, you saved our lives, we care about youā"
murderbot: [internally screaming in absolute horror because someone is trying to make emotional eye contact and have a heartfelt conversation] "please stop looking at me, i am going to pretend my system is shutting down now."
martha wells really wrote the perfect neurodivergent/introvert icon. the agony of being a certified badass but having zero social skills is so real.
Something I enjoy about Martha Wells writing and the Murderbot books is how often she plays with the way very close 1st Person narration can hide the physical reality of the character. Murderbot just spent three pages telling me about its very level headed ideas and then it cuts to and anyway the whole time I've been thinking about that I've been silently curled up on the floor like a dog while everyone politely waited for me to be done.
my turn at this one. ART is the feed? no. ART is the frame
I see your bloodymary and i raise you: The Hail Mary Diaries

Tbh I'm not sure collapsing down your ribcage is normal for SecUnits. I think Murderbot used its freedom to become the SecUnit version of hypermobile. Three spends too much time with Murderbot to register this as weird I think but one day MB is gonna take a finger off to inch it under a door to open a lock in front of a different rogue and it's gonna be like "what the fuck is wrong with you."
Don't leave that in the tags, that's a correct interpretation. MB has a copy of its schematics. I bet other SecUnits donāt KNOW they can do half the stuff MB does.
