Elena chuckled softly, taking a moment to enjoy Elijah Mikaleson’s joke. He was the example of poise and rightfulness, so she was very aware she had just witness something rare. Her face melted into a smile, “Kieran and Kenna are so precious. Freya showed me their picture last time we met. I should pass by one of these days…”, she said the last part mostly to herself, thinking of the next time she’d be free to get something for them and pay a visit. Once she settled everything for the tea, Elena walked to the living, “Well, he dragged me into his paranoia”, she sighed, “Klaus asked me to take the ascendat from my mother in law, and the thing is… I’m considering taking it, because I don’t want them to have such power. I mean, who knows if someday they decide to send us into that prison world just because they want to”, she shook her head, “But I also don’t want to hand it over to your brother, because I also want to give them a second chance to live peacefully in here. We don’t really want them. Perhaps, they just want to have some peace after being locked for all that time”

While Hope perhaps held a special place in his heart in that she was his brothers child, he had found himself completely attached to his niece and nephew or at least when he got the chance to be he took it. “You should though at this rate they are going to be having far more visitors than the rest of us.” another half joke of sorts, sometimes it still remained surprising how far they’d all come that people no longer held too much fear in stepping into a Mikaelson household granted most didn’t have ill intentions. “Yes well they are rather concerning but do not allow my brother to sway you into his mind set, if you wish to hand such a thing over allow it to be by your own accord.” he urged as much as he wished for a simpler way of things when it came to getting the ascendant, Elijah liked to hope that perhaps Elena was correct and they wanted nothing more than to peacefully co-exist...and yet some part of him refused to believe it. “They were held in a prison world for a century, unless they are incredibly morally adapt somehow I find myself with a doubt that they all would wish to live peacefully and not seek some form of revenge but I suppose time will tell.”

“Been a while yeah. Missed your face.” Bellamy took a seat across from him, finding it funny he could casually crack a joke about biting given what he was. “You’re much more composed than them. I’m not worried. How have you been?”

The very words she used were amusing enough, not that it was ever obvious that he was at all amused still unable to drop the stoic mind set he’d been sticking to more than ever since his return. “Centuries of practice and a care for human life also helps but I am told my morality has often been my weakness.” It was true enough, perhaps at times it was a weakness especially when it came to what needed to be done but more often than not he was rather grateful for it. “Well for the most part and you?”

These days, most of the time Klaus was spent happened to be with Hope. A consequence of his brewing concern over what he felt was a hidden ticking timebomb, just waiting to go off. Despite that, he knew he couldn’t keep the girl locked away in the mansion, so he was finding mostly deserted paths to take her to various places. Hence his surprise when it turns out there was someone in this supposedly empty area. 

When he noticed Hope waddle away, he immediately turned to follow her, stiffening at the sight of the little girl going to someone and handing them a flower. “Sweetheart,” Klaus called out, his attention all on his daughter, “come here and let us not bother anyone, okay?”

A person would certainly need to be blind as to not see the paranoia though admittedly understandable concern that came with the happy consequence of the time Klaus was spending with his daughter and while Elijah certainly had no desire to stop that what so ever he certainly felt it had been a moment too long since he had spent a moment with his brother or his niece for that matter. 

“Oh come now Niklaus, unless I have woken on some parallel world...I can’t imagine there will ever be a vexatious nature to seeing my niece.” he gave a small smile.

“Now I do believe it’s been a brief moment since we last chatted...no?” He raised a brow at the presence he recognized all too well, gesturing to the seat opposite. “Feel free to take a seat, I do not bite unlike most young and quite arrogant vampires..though I am sure you remain well aware.”

“Oh, ouch.” She gasped, feigning hurt. “Well, stranger things have happened, I’ll hold onto hope,” Astrid sighed dramatically, soon laughing it off with a shake of her head. “I don’t attract situations, situations are attracted to me,” she pouted in protest, mainly because he absolutely wasn’t wrong - she did seem to have a talent for getting into trouble. “So excellent only one of my employees have been shot, so far.” Astrid grumbled but gave a wave of her hand, signaling she didn’t want to explain that comment. “Hm, and yet you never give up on him.” She smiled, folding her arms over her chest. “I think Hope has made him a little less… challenging, wouldn’t you say?” That’s what she thought anyway, not that she’d ever, ever say that to Klaus himself. It would kinda be like calling a madman soft, she wasn’t that dumb. 

“Perhaps, and I am sure for that reason alone I will regret making any comment on it should such a crazed idea come to be.” his attempt at another joke, of course he could see no way in which he would ever so easily drop his guard and certainly not with recent past events; he now felt a need for it more than ever. A brow was raised, though he took her gesture to not ask questions and left it at that. A shrug was offered, she made a fair point and it perhaps had everything to do with a thousand year old promise but at the end of the day he was also his brother and that would always be a stand alone reason for everything Elijah had given up just to ensure his brother did not fall into a hole he could never climb out of. “Quite yes...and I certainly wish I had seen her coming centuries ago, perhaps then when things looked a little less than ideal I would’ve known their worth.”

“Don’t tell him I told you this, but I think fatherhood suits him. I’ve seen Hope, and she’s so perfect and blessed”, Elena said with a smile and walked into the kitchen, “Cold or hot tea?”, she turned around to ask and grabbed the teapot just in case. “He was worried though, about the heretics in town. Have you heard about them?”, she asked. She thought it’d be wiser to not mention that her mother in law was actually the ‘mother’ of some of them. She’d only met Nora so far, and she seemed harmless, she hoped her opinion on the girl remained the same.

“Yes I can assure you I will not, his ego is far too big on most occasions to allow it to be blown up any further...-” he joked in the very way only he ever could, the original had always known from the moment knowing of Hope being a possibility came to light that she would be his saving grace so to speak. “Hope is most certainly a blessing to us all, though I suppose the same can now be said for my sisters twins.” And they always would be, centuries he had considered him and his siblings alike cursed to outlive most things perhaps that was another reason he clung on so tightly to his brothers redemption to ever try to look for his own but the nieces and nephew he had were reminders of the very life they were able to have. It was one of the few times he understood why Rebekah had desired a human life again, to have what their brother and sister did..though he certainly was too selfless to do such a thing when it was always made so clear how much he was needed. “Hot. Thank you..-” he gave a small smile, though raised a brow at the mention of his brothers worries of course he happened to know all about them. “Indeed I have, though I would assume it nothing but my brothers vexatious paranoia and constant need to protect his child that remains the motivation behind said worries.”

“Yes, I just have to get Klaus the spell he needs and the rest I’m assuming he can do.” Freya replied. “Yes, he’s losing control. I spoke to Hazel and she said something happened while they were in New Orleans. She suspects her coven might have something to do with it. He’s been digging around for Esther’s grimoire as well… I didn’t give it to him because he didn’t tell me what he wanted with it.. but I’m just concerned.” 

“And as always I shall be watching him with an unfaltering gaze, since his tendency to act on impulse never does dim even with the margin of time.” He added, of course he would never do anything but in hopes that his brothers plan would flow as easily as it seemed to be on paper. “Then perhaps it is best to keep an eye over the situation, should any thing of added concern take place I would be happy to help considering it would take a portion of the stress from you. You have every right to be concerned, though do not let it consume you.”

“One day you’re going to hug me back and it’s not going to be awkward.” She teased, only to make a joke out of the obvious stiffness in the Originals shoulders. Astrid knew he wasn’t an outside family hugger, yet, it didn’t ever stop her. “Sure it is, I can teach you the lingo, you just need to ask,” she grinned and couldn’t help but laugh just at the thought of Elijah without his ever-present gentleman like talk. “True, but I also happen to think you pull off a suit better than they do so, I’m not complaining.” Astrid swayed along the hall, slowing down only when he asked how she had been. “Mm, well that depends. In your absence, I’ve been both possessed by a psychotic witch and kidnapped, tortured, bloodjacked by assholes, so how have I been?” She snorted. It still weighed on her, as shown in her soft eyes, but she wouldn’t dwell and she certainly wasn’t looking for pity. “Not good. But better now. You remember me telling you I was planning on opening a dog rescue center? Well, I did it. You’re looking at a boss,” she grinned. “How about you? Dare I ask...”

“And I do assume that will be around the same time pigs learn to fly.” A joke of his own, though he wasn’t sure that was untrue considering his stiffness and facade which often situated in his need to be so very uptight had everything to do with taming the inner monster, the inner demons in which he refused to set free after all it served no one in doing so and the attention he had drawn to keeping his family safe was one he happened to be holding onto rather tight if to not break the last strand holding everything in place. “I shall keep it in mind, should such a day ever appear.” The original did nothing but offer a small smile at the statement, wanting to chuckle though as always he did not. “I see, you certainly seem to have a talent for attracting situations that go awry though perhaps it speaks for your resilience that you have not fallen yet.” He offered as some form of comfort, not that he wasn’t sure everything would be inevitably taking it’s toll, he was far from the person to offer advice on that since he never truly faced his own set of demons out of fear for what they may do. “I’m sure you are doing an excellent job...-” Elijah looked up for a moment. “I am...the same, building bridges with Niklaus and ensuring he does not fall too far from the path of redemption, as challenging as that had always been.” Speaking of his familiar duties was as good a way to deflect from his own inner turmoil that he certainly did not wish to bring forward.

His eyes rolled. “Ever the generous brother, Elijah,” he mumbled, though not surprised whatsoever. “She will not die, as long as her little minions grant us this little favor. Whatever happens beyond my draconian plans is yours to determine.” He pointed a hand toward Elijah as he finished speaking. Elijah’s morality was infuriating, but he never doubted his brother would end without a second thought those that posed a threat to their family. Klaus’ danger stemmed from being unpredictable, but Elijah had managed to make predictability dangerous too.

“Yes well generosity never does go awry, Niklaus.” equally unsurprised at his brothers reaction to such a statement, granted it was perhaps where they differed in the slightest fraction: where Klaus could so easily end the woman’s life without a second thought, Elijah refused to do so without good reason. “Should they hand over the ascendant with no unpredictable attempts to seek vengeance for what shall happen to their predecessor...then I can see no harm in allowing them to go on with their happy little lives...-should they however make a move against any of us, they should not heed you dear brother for I will end them myself.” Elijah promised, morals or not when it came to family such things could easily be thrown out of the window.

“You have no idea…”, Elena sighed and looked down, having Damon being possessed was one of the worst moments of the year, and it was something she was more than ready to let it go, specially now that Damon had his humanity switch back to normal. She closed the door behind him and walked to the kitchen, “Apologies accepted. Believe or not, I had a suprisingly good conversation with your brother Klaus”, she smiled. “Would you like something to drink?”

In some ways he was sure he did not and in others he was perhaps in the mind frame that clinging to the very redemption and protection when it came to his family merely had himself holding onto his facade by a thread, factors that had once been there aiding the beast to appear had been taken away but that surely did not mean there was not a damaged monster left attempting to pick up the pieces but that was not where his concern laid now. “Luckily for you it appears he’s been in good spirits for some time, though I fear it can’t last much longer...-” the original was glad to hear such things, though with his brother it often came as nothing but a calm before the storm. “Just tea, if you have any of course.”

A sigh, faint but dramatic enough, left his lips, his arms opening in a shrugging motion. “Freya has insisted she would rather not leave Stefan without the loving embrace of his… loving mother,” he answered, simply. But there was a catch there; of course there was. “A crushing thought, indeed, but one she may just have to live with, in the end.” He’d once been a lot closer to Stefan than she had, but he would never let that stand in the way of his family’s safety. The reality was he was not planning on letting the heretics walk off after they’d return the ascendant, not if he could help it. And he could. 

“Then you will grant our sister that, after all it is only those she see’s as children who pose a threat...she is merely nothing without them...-of course should I be wrong i’d be happy to put the woman down myself.” He still had the decency for that much, he saw no reason as to why the Salvatore’s mother could be any means of danger without these heretics though he suspected going as far as to murder her was something ran by paranoia of the families safety in his brothers eyes.

Elena frowned when she heard the knock on the door, not expecting anyone, or Damon that earlier in the afternoon. She opened up, and she was taken by surprise. A pleasant one. “Elijah”, she smiled, happy to see this original at her door. “Yes, I needed help with something, but that was dealt with”, she said with a smile.

“But please, come in… It’s been a while since we last talked”, she stepped out so he could walk into her loft. 

“I am glad to hear it...-” and he was, regardless of anything but the friendship of sorts they had built in the time they had known each other, Elijah cared enough to see that the youngest doppelganger wasn’t in any trouble. 

“That it has, I apologize of course...it would have been sooner though I believe we were all occupied with the lovely coven of witches possessing various residents of Mystic Falls to find the time.” the original offered with a smile, stepping inside once he had been invited.

“Everyone seems to be saying that.” Freya had just recently had a conversation with Leven about the same thing. “I have a duty to keep them and my family safe too though. I can’t just sit back. The ascendant is missing, Henrik is losing control… I have to be able to do something.” 

“No one is asking you to simply sit back, the request is that you only do as much as is needed..-” he added with an understanding smile. “Considering our brothers plan to retrieve the ascendant, if all goes as well as he hopes then that will at least be one less problem to fret over...-what do you mean Henrik is losing control?” this was certainly something he’d heard nothing of.

“Elijah.” Her eyes shot up at the sound of his voice. She’d been way too wrapped up in getting Hope to sleep to even consider the possibility that an Original other than Klaus or Rebekah was the one to appear in the doorway. Astrid held back her surprise just for the sake of the now slumbering toddler as she got up and carefully placed her down to sleep. “No, it’s fine…” She whispered, inching her way out the room, where she then closed the door and let a beaming grin appear on her face. 

“Yeah, blah blah, drop the formality, ‘Lijah,” she bounced toward him, throwing her arms around him even though she knew he would more than likely be uncomfortable with the affection. She didn’t linger for more than a couple seconds because of that, but the smile on her face remained as she stepped backward. “Looking sharp as always,” she tugged gently on his suit jacket and gestured for them to move away from Hope’s room so not to wake her.

He offered a small smile at the recognition, leaning against the door frame of course there were few moments when the sight of his niece didn’t leave him in a better mood than what often was the case. Stepping back once the hybrid edged closer to the door, so she could close it.

Holding back a groan, he gave a nod unexpected affection wasn’t something he dealt well with though of course typical his affection tended to only stem from moments of great emotion or in turn when the family happened to be in danger, getting leapt at wasn’t typically a moment in which he would let down his guard. “If only it was all as easy as you make it sound.” he added in acknowledgement, hiding the slight form of amusement in his smile.”Yes well when all you’re used to happen to be my siblings, I suspect looking sharp is one of my many good traits...-” an Elijah form of joking as he started for somewhere further away from his niece’s room.”Dare I ask how you’ve been?”

“I understand where he’s coming from. It’s not that. He takes it too far sometimes you know? He has some of the hyrbrid’s following me like he’s just waiting for something to happen. He could at least trust me more,” Hayley said in reasoning. She didn’t foresee it happening anytime soon, however, and was used to the idea.  “I think it’s fair I still know what’s going on. Especially if it poses a threat to either myself or Hope. I’m trying to be a member of this family but it feels like lately there’s a lot of tension in the air.” She could feel it when-ever she was there. Staying was growing more and more difficult. “Everyone finds it again one way or another, Elijah.”

“I’m aware, Klaus seems to deem it an impossible task to go about a dispute quietly...I would even go as far as to say he lives for the melodrama of it all.” The last part was slightly mocking his brother, though he meant nothing harsh by it however impossible a task it would be to have Klaus not overstep when it came to disagreements. “He trusts you, I am sure of that much...it is Tristan he does not and he is blinded by his disdain.” Elijah attempted to explain, he and his brother were at least similar in that or he could at least say he had his moments where such had been evident. “You have my word on that; regardless of tensions caused by the disagreements between yourself and Niklaus, I will not hide such things from you.”  He nodded, he could understand that as among the centuries they had together there had been periods Elijah had needed time away from his brother as to not be driven insane. “I am sorry you feel such a way, I can certainly understand it given the times over the centuries when my brothers company had become fairly vexatious that I had needed time alone..perhaps I can suggest the same for you?” he did not wish to see her nor Hope leave the manor but if it was what would ease the tensions to some degree and save her from feeling alienated all together then so be it. “Perhaps...-for now there are other matters far more important.”

“If anything at least one threat is neutral for the time being. I don’t forsee him getting out of line any time soon.” Freya replied. “Which means we can focus on the other problems that keep coming our way.” 

“That much is true and it is one of the few reliefs I hold.” Elijah replied with a nod, turning his gaze to her for a moment. “Yes we being myself and Niklaus, I do not wish for my niece or nephew to be left without a mother because we allowed you to put yourself in harms way. I am unsure of what I would do should such a time ever arise.”

A sly curl of the corners of his lips betrayed that his brother had, of course, been right in his assumption. Despite his impulsive temperament, Klaus was rather fond of calculated plans - the more atrocious, the better. Naturally, there was a need for elaboration; and so he did.

“Our dear sister with magical prowess is ensuring me with a shield against the pesky siphoning that many of Lily Salvatore’s acolytes happen to be quite resourceful in. One spell, one bite, one ailment.” He didn’t feel the need to expand on that. It was pretty self-explanatory. “Whether it’s her trueborn or adoptive children that will rush to her aid, I have no doubts that at the very least one person will be bending backwards to ensure a vial of my blood will reach Lily in her dying times. Perhaps even desperately enough to let go of the ascendant.”

“It all sounds so delightfully vulgar, I applaud your creativity Niklaus.” it seemed his brother had the details of the plan perfectly formulated, granted there was always possible ways problems could arise though for once said probability seemed unlikely. “Certainly and if not, there is always room to push them over the none existent edge....-I can’t help but doubt they would come to retrieve it once their patriarch is restored to full health, I assume that is where said elimination comes in?...killing two birds with one stone as it is.” of course meaning it would stop the chance of them taking the ascendant once more and it would eliminate the chance of the rising danger that leaving them to fester could bring.
