A lot of people are looking, including me in my free time but without magic there isn’t a lot anyone can do,” Magnus shook his head, “They just end up back in town, walking or driving,” He grinned and straightened out his boyfriend’s shirt with his hands once more, any excuse for physical contact, “You haven’t changed either, Alexander.”

“Well, two heads are better than one. We’ll figure something out. We have to,” he added quietly, his thoughts drifting to his siblings. A small smile appeared on Alec’s lips when Magnus’ hands fixed his shirt. He had missed him deeply when they were apart, but now everything seemed to be falling into place again.

“Convincing the Dowager Empress that I was Anastasia is proving to have been a lot easier then proving to you that I’m her and I don’t even know why it matters, you’re just some stranger who thinks they’re going to get out of here in ten minutes when that’s the last thing that’s going to happen.” She spoke, her volume rising from the little outburst that had just happened which had been born from the other feeding her frustration. “I’m not a vampire- vampires don’t exist after all-.. or perhaps they do, I don’t know what’s real and what’s not anymore because of this land.”

“From what I remember from mundane history, she’s also dead. Have been for good ninety years,” he rolled his eyes. Being able to remember various historical details had been Alec’s curse. He had a tendency of blurting out random facts when stresses. “I’ve been in worse situations so yes, I am going to get out of here one way or another. Maybe you’re just not as determined as I am,” he said with a shrug. “And all the legends are true. Your life is going to be easier when you accept it.”

“Haven’t you heard the saying home is where the heart is?” Isaac asked, “Unless you’re all alone here without your friends, then never mind.”

“My family is in New York.” He was not going to go into detail of course, and he also didn’t want to mention Magnus to some stranger. While Magnus was Alec’s heart, he needed to find a way to get back to Izzy, Jace, and Max.

“Are you referring to a metaphorical storm or physical?” Hermione asked, “Neither one is good but if it’s physical then I should probably go home.”

“I meant metaphorical.” Alec looked up at the sky and shook his head. “Well, it does look like it may rain though.”

“Thirty five days.” He answered, because he had been making a tally chart in a notebook, wanting to keep track of his habits in hope that the vampirism had disappeared. “What about you? Did you just get here? How long have I been gone? Or have you not noticed. Who am I kidding, you wouldn’t have noticed.”

Alec was never going to admit that he did notice Simon’s absence, there was no doubt in that. It was suspiciously quiet without him running around and getting himself in trouble, not that Alec had something against it. “It’s been just a few days for me,” he admitted. “Magnus has been missing for weeks...”

“Did you hit your fucking head? I told you I’m not who you’re talking about,” Pamela spat. If he didn’t stop she’d be throwing punches soon. “Runes? I don’t even know what you’re talking about. Seriously stop. This is getting fucking ridiculous, creep.”

Alec blinked a couple of times, not being entirely sure he heard her correctly. She did look like Clary, the resemblance was uncanny, but she definitely did not sound like the redhead. “You’re not Clary,” he narrowed his eyes. “Who are you?”

Simon knew that voice, he could recognise the monotone grumpiness anywhere, “Alec?” He questioned, because he had come to learn that there were people in this town that wore the same face, but the word mundane was used and knew that it was in fact the elder Lightwood. “I didn’t think I’d ever say this but man, I’m really glad to see you.” Though clearly the sentiments weren’t reciprocated. “And I’m just- you know, checking for fangs. Don’t know how long I’m going to continue being a mundane, I like to be prepared after being blindsided one to many times.”

Alec grimaced. For a moment he forgot how talkative the mundane was. Well, at least in Wintervale he was not a vampire anymore, therefore Alec didn’t have to bother with observing him and his cravings. “How long have you bee here?” He asked, not wanting to continue the topic of bloodlust.

Having finally gotten some sleep, eaten some food and most important, had a shower, Hermione decided not to go straight back to looking for a way home. Instead, she went to the park and sat underneath a tree to read, “It’s actually kind of nice here, peaceful. I hadn’t taken the time to notice.”

Alec scoffed. “Let’s hope it’s not the calm before the storm.” He was a realist and knew that good things simply couldn’t last for a longer period of time.

“Home is home, I would not change anything about it,” he said with a shrug. Sure, he could live without demons, but he had to agree that from time to time they were making his life a bit more interesting.

“Like I said, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Pamela repeated, less patience in her tone. She could definitely feel her blood gradually boiling over on the inside. Her temper was shorter without her best friends to calm her down – especially around men. “Jace? Who is Jace?”

“Fine, have it your way,” Alec growled, his hand pushing his hair back nervously. He didn’t have the time to play games with her, he just wanted to know where his parabatai was. “Why did you cover your runes? You finally figured you’ll never be a part of us?” He rolled his eyes, judging her critically.

“I’m not pretending and the last time I checked I was pretty alive.” She told the other, because she hadn’t died, she was very much alive and about to actually start living her life, embarking on the adventures she’d always dreamed to go on. “And give you the satisfaction of me being silent, I think I’ll pass.” 

“What only proves my point that you’re not her,” he said with another shrug. “Unless you’re a vampire... Although walking on the sun contradicts it.” Alec was slowly losing his patience. Everything about that girl didn’t make sense and further argument was pointless.

“I can apologize for worrying you, Alexander,” Magnus replied with a small smile. Honestly, he’d been worried about him too. He didn’t like not knowing what was going on at home. The club wasn’t far and he began walking with him, “It’s called Wintervale. It’s in Canada but it is not on a single map in any book I can find and it doesn’t ring a bell from any map I’ve ever looked at from back home. People come here from all over the world, all over the universe. Multiple universes some people say. Some of them have abilities and some didn’t but any kind of magic is non-existent here so I suppose that doesn’t matter. But my magic doesn’t work and your runes and stele won’t either,” He stopped outside the club and grinned as he spread his arms out to gesture to it, “This is it. Best cocktails in town,” He sent his boyfriend a cheeky wink, “Not everything has to change right?”

Alec didn’t know what to think of the place. On one hand Canada was fairly close to home, but on the other he was worried they were not in the same dimention. “There is absolutely no way out then?” He asked, kicking a small pebble in front of him. “Has anyone tried crossing the border?” Was there some sort of a force field that kept everyone inside? What was causing some to lose their powers and some to keep them? Alec had many questions, but a conversation like that needed to be held in a more secure location. He gave Magnus a small smile when he admired his club. At least his boyfriend was still doing something he liked. “I’m glad you haven’t changed,” he nodded in appreciation.

This is my life, not a story!” She exclaimed, feeling herself onto her tiptoes, something she always felt herself doing when she was trying to be intimidating. “You’re the one who’s delusional about this place, about what’s happening and when you do come to believe all of this I want an apology. A good one. So get practising.” Anya shook her head, “There’s not even going to be a car.” She mumbled under her breath knowing she was right and the sooner this guy came to realise that, the better.

“At least I’m not pretending to be a very dead royal,” he shrugged. And there went trying to not make her more upset. Alec was unable to keep his mouth shut when he knew he was right. “Don’t hold your breath. Or maybe do, for another hundred years if you wish to.” He was going to find a way out of that damn place no matter how long it was going to take.

Simon had been doing his daily checks, notebook in front of him with small heading and tally’s to mark the days he had been here and his… cravings. Thirty five days since he had fed, thirty five days since he had felt like he needed to feed, thirty five days where he had indulged himself on pizza and burgers. It was also thirty five days since he had been taken from New York after killing his best friend. He tried not to think about that though or the look on Jace’s face when he told him what he had done, instead he was checking his teeth to make sure they were still human, it was at that moment that he sensed someone approaching his table, turning with his fingers in his mouth- “Sorry-..” He mumbled, removing them, “I swear I’m normal and that wasn’t what it looked like… or maybe it was-.. Is there something you wanted?”

When Alec noticed someone who looked very similar to Simon Lewis, he was not sure if he was pleased. Well, at least the boy was no longer a vampire so that could count as a plus. He decided to observe him for a couple of minutes to be completely certain before he approached him. After a moment, he could not stand it any longer. “Do you have to be disgusting in public, mundane?” He rolled his eyes.

“Uh huh.” She replied, because yeah, this guy was totally new. “Let me tell you a little bit about myself, my name is Anya, but formerly I am Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov, the only two places I have been is Russia, where I grew up in St Petersberg and Paris. I’m also from 1926.” She told the other, knowing the facts would stop this whole denial spiral he seemed to be in, “I’ve been in Wintervale for six months, no idea how I got here, but do you really think if I could have left I’d still be here?” She asked, “But hey, if your friend is going to come and pick you up then I’d love to ask him to get me out of here too.” She told him, handing her phone over with the sweet satisfaction of knowing she was right.

Alec raised his eyebrows, listening silently to what the girl as saying. He heard about certain afflictions that mundanes had and about which Shadwhunters did not talk out loud. The girl probably had some mental disorder and Alec didn’t want to upset her any further. He of course knew that according to mundane history all Romanovs were murdered by Bolsheviks. “While this was a very interesting story, it only proves you’re not a reliable source of information. I’m not sure if there’s going to be any free seat in the car, so we’ll see.”

“Sounds about right,” Magnus muttered, more to himself than to Alec, “I don’t know what’s going on but I’m sorry I worried you. I woke up here one day alone and confused. This town is called Wintervale, we’re all trapped here,” A hand moved to sit on top of the one on his shoulder, “Thank you for trying to find me, although part of me wished you hadn’t ended up here with me,” He sighed sadly and then forced a smile, “Come, I have a place here. It’s above a club that I own apparently,” He shook his head in a manner that said don’t ask, “I don’t know if you woke up anywhere but we can go there for now. Until we figure out what exactly is going on that is.”

Alec shook his head. “This is not your fault, Magnus. You have nothing to be sorry about, “ he said firmly. The situation of course was not ideal, but they were going to find a way out, Alec was sure of it. In the end they were in this together and two heads were better than one. “What can you tell me about this place? Is it somehow suppressing your powers and that’s why you couldn’t make a portal home?” He knew that if Magnus had been able to use his magic, he would’ve come home without further delay. “A club?” he raised his eyebrow, but didn’t make another comment. “Lead the way, we can talk there.” Alec didn’t want to admit that he got up and left so quickly that he was not sure where exactly was the place where he woke up.

caroline shrugged at the question. she guessed it was probably broken, she couldn’t reach alaric, or the girls - — god, she was meant to be in a meeting. “probably.” she spoke “can’t find a pay phone or anything around though.”

Alec frowned, not being pleased with that answer. “You’re the third person with broken phone, this cannot be a coincidence,” he mused. Something was wrong with this place and he needed to find out what as soon as possible.
