"So you're saying that I can't wear all this makeup?" Rhea asked, confused.
Hermione shook her head. "No. If you do, people will wonder because of your sudden change. That's also why you want to stick to neutral colors."
"Because then people will want to know how come you have glittery pink eyes," Jade deadpanned.
"Exactly," Hermione nodded. "So you can start small, with mascara or something, and then add a little bit more each week. So you get prettier gradually."
"Um, is mascara the thing I just poked myself in the eye with?" Julianne asked.
"So I start with mascara, then do concealer, then powder, then foundation, then blush and the bronzier?"
"Bronzer," Hermione corrected. "And concealer and powder go together. But yes, that's how you could do it."
"Does Daphne wear makeup?" Jade asked skeptically.
"Not as much as you have," Hermione admitted. "I told her that you only need to wear it when you get older, so I just gave her a few things."
"I like this lip gloss," Rhea said, making a pouting face in the mirror.
Hermione tried to hide her laugh at Rhea's bright red lips. "That's lipstick, not lip gloss, and I would stick to colors closer to your actual lip colors. Gradual changes, remember? You can pick one now and then come back each break with a slightly different lip color. You can work up to the red if you really want it."
"I suppose," Rhea sighed.
"Thanks for helping us with this," Julianne said gratefully. "We'd probably look ridiculous without you."
Hermione surveyed the three girls in front of her. Jade had insisted on testing the green eyeshadow, and had matched it with a bright pink blush. Rhea had paired her red lips with black eyeshadow Hermione was sure was actually eyeliner, and Julianne hadn't quite figured how to rub in the foundation yet.
"Right," Hermione said, smiling weakly. She wondered if she could get a camera before she introduced the girls to makeup wipes.
