My initial research question for my paper was what are the effects of moving locations for people. Personally, I have moved quite a bit, and I know the hardships of moving from place to place. Relationships that were made during the time period are lost, and it puts a strain on a persons mind, because the belief that there are not any permanent relationships in life is established. Having to make new relationships is not an easy task, and knowing that they will not be permanent makes it even more difficult. This can affect a person mentally and psychologically for life. Another category that fits into this is age; what ages are most vulnerable to the hardships of a move, or moves. When moving, a child can be the most vulnerable to psychological damage due to the under developed feelings that are needed in order to effectively relocate. I relate this topic to The Walking Dead through the many moves that Rick's group has had to undergo. Carl is the primary child for focus, and it can be inferred that he is highly effected with each move that the group takes. He was the metaphor for a clean slate in this dangerous world, and with each risky move he is changed. His attitude towards the human race changes drastically, and he is hesitant to trust anyone in the new places. It can be argued that sometimes a move is needed in both life and this television series due to a need for supplies, freedom, or escape, but the consequences for moving must also be realized. The best example from the television show is when the group moves to Hershel's farm, and take in a new person, and Carl, the symbol of innocence, pleas with his father to kill this man due to the distrust of other humans fro the constant move he has had to take. Season one Carl is much different than the Carl that we know now, as well as some of the other characters whom have had to conform to each of the new moves. The Alexandrite's have also moved into their Utopic society which hinders their senses. Overall, my assertion is that, When a move or moves occur, the members involved within the group are transformed into a different person with new ideals.(i.e. distrust, lacking to establish relationships.).
