you know what would be funny? a mod for deltarune that completely removes berdly.

not because i hate him, it's actually the opposite. i wanna see how jarring and off putting the game feels without him. i want berdly haters to play and slowly realize that berdly does a lot more for the story than they realized. and everything that has to be changed around his lack of presence drives that idea further home.

there's no one behind the library desk. no gamer's delight made for queen. no golden statue with nipples. no stupid plans for smart boy theme park. one of the puzzle rooms in the castle is eerily empty, and one of the doors in the hall of custom search history rooms is... gone. the parts of attack of the killer queen with berdly's motif in it are just static. nobody gathers up the recruits to help build thrash. when susie finds kris playing the original game, she starts to say "if you keep playing video games all the time, you'll end up like..." then trails off, like she can't remember who she was thinking of.

noelle keeps glancing at her phone in her pocket, like she's expecting a call... but it never rings.

i started wondering what would happen if you tried to do the weird route without berdly, and the simpliest explanation is that you literally just wouldn't be able to meet the criteria to lock yourself into the route in ch2, meaning the game would go back to the normal route plot. but that's boring, you know? i have a better idea.

when kris and noelle arrive where berdly's supposed to be, noelle is confused. she looks around and goes "for some reason, i thought someone was gonna be here, faha" and then you hear the aborted weird route jingle. but even though noelle doesn't say it out loud, that moment is still on her mind. "kris" gave her the thornring to prepare her for something, a battle she needed strength for... someone was supposed to be there. someone was supposed to be there, and they weren't.

so instead of the normal ch4 weird route scene, when you get to noelle's room, she starts talking about certain spots in town. in the classroom, at the library... she keeps looking over like someone will be there when there never is. she can't explain why, but it feels so... quiet. empty. but her mind must just be playing tricks on her, right?

right, kris..?
