KidLawgust 2026: Day 3 - Navigation
Something written for today. Mostly physics and shenanigans. xD You could put it anywhere into the canon, I guess?

"How do you always find me?"
"Huh?"
It was yet another night spent together. One of the calmer ones. The ones that gave the perfect illusion of belonging.
"You always seem to know where I am," Law said, resting his head on Kid's chest.
"Blame your ship."
"My ship?"
"It's got a special hum."
The revelation made sense, even if Law had no idea whether he should feel threatened or reassured by it.
"So, you're saying you can distinguish ships by sound?"
"It's not a sound. I can feel... stuff."
"Stuff?"
"Yeah, electromagnetic fields. Most are weak, but your ship's made from a fuck-ton of metal - hard to miss."
They were silent for a while.
"Electromagnetic fields, huh?" Law slowly said and looked up at Kid. "You're like a bird."
"I ain't no fucking bird, Trafalgar," he scoffed. "But yeah, I find my way."
"Interesting..." With a thoughtful stare at the far wall, Law let his long, sleek fingers drum a lazy rhythm on Kid's stomach. Before he spoke up again, his eyes wandered back to lock with those orange ones. "How precise is your ability? Can you only sense metal or-?"
Kid let out a snort that made Law's head bounce on his chest. "Fuck, you really think I'll explain my tricks to a rival?"
"You know that I will find out eventually."
He did. That smartass doctor was too good at observing and drawing conclusions.
"Alright," Kid gave in with a shrug, and sure enough he used his defeat as an opportunity to boast. "I can sense ships, I can sense islands, I can sense the whole fucking planet's magnetic field. Never needed a compass or a log pose."
"You're navigating the Grand Line, listening to your gut feeling?" The doubt in Law's voice was palpable.
"Not my gut feeling! Are you even listening, Trafalgar? I can tell you with pinpoint precision where north is!"
"Okay. Let's test it."
Before Kid knew, Law had left the bed. He rummaged through the chaos on his desk, cut a weirdly sexy figure - completely naked as he was - and finally produced a compass from one of the drawers. It had probably seen better days, but Law held onto it with a triumphant smugness. He leaned against the desk, then he challenged, "I'm ready. Where's north, Eustass-ya?"
"Really now?"
"Or are you afraid to guess wrong?"
"Ugh, if it makes you happy..." With a roll of his eyes, Kid pointed at a spot slightly right of a corner. "There."
Law's brows went up by a minuscule amount. "Correct," he confirmed as if he were reluctant to believe it.
"Yeah, I told you." Kid crossed his arms. "Are you satisfied, now?"
"No. Come here."
Resistance was futile. That much Kid knew. With a huff he got out of bed, then he asked, "What now? Is this one of your 'scientific experiments' again?"
Law shot him an amused look. "My scientific experiments? Last time I checked, we were both quite involved and quite into it." His mouth turned back into a straight line. "Close your eyes and spin around."
"Are we really doing that? What do I look like? Like a child at a birthday party?"
"No, but you're behaving like one again."
"Fine. Fine." Not even trying to win this argument, Kid closed his eyes and turned around a few times. He avoided every thought about how ridiculous this might look to a stranger. Thankfully, everything that happened on their strange nights together, stayed at their strange nights together.
"Stop. And don't open your eyes yet."
"Have I told you that I hate people ordering me around?"
"Multiple times."
Nevertheless, Kid stopped.
Without waiting for Law to ask his question, he pointed behind himself with a thumb, at that very same spot slightly right of a corner. "There," he said, followed by an annoyed groan. "Really, Trafalgar. North's beginner level. Could find it in my sleep after a night getting wasted."
A silent clink announced the end of the compass's shift as Law set it onto the desk. "Okay, then let's try something expert level," he decided. "People have magnetic fields, too. I want to see if you can locate me with your eyes closed."
"Now, THAT sounds more like fun!"
Kid spun around a few more times, a slight smile crossing his lips as he felt the telltale shift in the air that announced Law's "Room" spreading. By now, they had used it for so many experiments in and out of bed that it was just as easy for him to recognize as north. He had no idea if Law was aware of it, and he sure as hell wouldn't tell him.
He abruptly stopped, the smile turning into a grin. "Locating you, Trafalgar!"
The truth was: he had located him the second Law swapped places with one of the pillows. Body modifications made from metal were a dead giveaway, after all.
For the sake of the game, Kid waited two long seconds. Then, he blindly turned to the bed, got onto it and crawled straight toward where Law waited for him.
He opened his eyes, only centimetres away from Law's face. "Found you," he murmured against his lips. "Although... I can't give my powers credit for this one."
They kissed, warmth slowly spreading between them and announcing a second round.
Law broke the kiss with a smile. "How... did you find me, then?"
"Easy one. My dick always knows where you are."
"You're insufferable."
"Yeah, and you're into it."
"Sadly."

Yeah.... they did all of that... wearing nothing. You're welcome. xDDD
