Pressure & Time is the latest release from UK born guitarist Taz Taylor and his band which includes Val Trainor on drums and Barney Firks II on bass. Chandler Mogel who appeared on Punky Meadows latest release handles the vocals on Pressure & Time. The awesome booklet includes photos and lyrics and was put together by Tristan Greatrex.
The cd opens with the track “Something Is Ending”. This is an outstanding track right from the start. It’s got a catchy riff, bolstered by tight work by Trainor & Firks. Taylor can solo with the best of them and does so here. Mogel’s vocals are outstanding and the backing vocals are a great touch in the vein of a Blackmore or Schenker release in the early 1980’s. I dare you to say you don’t like this track...double dog dare ya!
Whispers In The Night - A bluesy rocker this one. Mogel’s vocals shine as does Taz Taylor’s solo.
Secrets You Got Over Me - Another bluesy rocker with top notch vocals and instrumental work by the band including some tasty keyboard work by Taz. There are multiple instrumental releases in TTB’s back catalog so it’s no surprise that the extended outtro solo is so damn good!
Kissed By Elvis - This free spirit was kissed by Elvis in his prime. A life story set to music…Listen & learn
Pressure & Time - An instrumental track of epic proportions! A head banging beat to go along with the guitar & keyboard work.
Highway Song - A cover of the classic Blackfoot track. WOW...what a cover it is…..a beautiful thing all around. The acoustic guitar parts are stellar as are the vocals….The outtro solo though...steals the show….a jaw dropper!
Red Line Angel - A straight ahead rocker with interesting lyrics
One Thing - A rocker with some interesting work by Barney Firks….love the bass line!
Ash and Bone - This would have been a radio staple in the early ‘80s
A Moment of Clarity - Excellent acoustic guitar intro for this instrumental which has multiple moods shall we say.
The musicianship on this disc is stellar...give it a listen...you owe it to yourself!
Purple Rain - I was never a Prince fan by any stretch of the imagination but I gave this a listen. I have no knowledge of the original so I can’t draw comparisons but...I like the song up through the end of the first verse but the chorus threw me….I can do without it…..just sing all the verses with the chorus for an outtro? The guys do an excellent job of playing/singing throughout.
Astral Child - More acoustic guitar work here that is just stunning. Mogel’s vocals are stunning as well. Excellent album closer
