I cannot wait to revisit many of the places I've already hiked on the AT, where I can park my tent for a few days and enjoy the scenery without the constant "I need to make it to this mile marker" hanging over my head. • That's the one thing I'm glad I'm not doing: rushing this thruhike. I've seen folks who've already completed the trail in 3-4 months. That's an amazing accomplishment, but I wouldn't know what to do with myself afterwards 😂 I know many people have deadlines or jobs/family/etc to get back to. Luckily, I have an opportunity to take as long as I need to complete this, and I plan to go at a nice pace. • After the AT? Time to prep for the PCT. (at McAfee Knob)
You can't be afraid of thumbing it. Most thruhikers never hitched before this trip, so we were all a tad nervous. But trail towns understand it's part of the life, and we've had decent luck so far through our hike. • Yeah, I know, this is from allllll the way back from Georgia, but I've now realised how little I've snapped of hikers over the past we months. That needs to change. (at Hiawassee, Georgia)
2017 Thruhike of the Appalachian Trail from Amber Redfield on Vimeo.
Just a little video of some moments from my first few days on the Appalachian Trail. Getting into the swing of things, editing some videos and learning how to make them! This goes from day 1-4, right before Blood Mountain.

I won’t be posting much on Tumblr anymore, so feel free to follow my photography on other sites as listed above.
Never pass up sunsets.
Gearing up for my 2017 NoBo Appalachian Trail thruhike.
Georgia to Maine
6 months
2000+ miles
14 states
100 summits
464,500 +/- elevation changes i.e. It will be like ascending/descending Mount Everest 16 times
I will be living out of the pack above for most of 2017; everything I need will be in that bag.
I’ve been away from Tumblr for an incredibly long time, but I will try and have my main social media accounts at least linked to this so they can be shared.
My social media focus is on Instagram these days, but I also have other accounts I will be posting to during my backpacking trip.

Winter is finally coming to the North East Coast. I’ve been craving the slopes since last season ended. Finally own “new” gear for this season after 8+ years of not having anything:
Burton Harvest 151
Burton Coco Boots
Burton Citizen Bindings
Burton snowboard/gear bags
I scored brand new Coco boots and Citizen bindings when Sports Authority went out of business. Get this, 30 for the boots and 40 for the bindings. How ridiculous is that?! I also scored a lightly used Harvest 151 at Buckman’s for only 55, plus all the gear bags for 40. Also a ton of Burton hats and socks for 5 each. Patience payed off this time. I am SO STOKED for this season!
Sometimes getting lost on a mountain while snowboarding/skiing is the best mistake you made that day. You have to chase the light to make sure you get down in time. Find new trails, make sure you don’t turn onto a Black Diamond run if you’re unprepared. If I was prepared - and it was allowed - to sleep on the mountain, I totally would have. But alas, the patrol was out in force to make sure everyone was off the mountain before it got dark.

It’s been a very, very, very long time.
How’s Tumblr? Anyone interested in new stuff?

“It was a perfect illusion
Somewhere in all the confusion
You were so perfect
You were a perfect illusion”
It's been awhile, Instagram. Between two jobs, preparing for summer camp, fixing my Jeep, and researching/saving up for travelling... I just haven't had as much time to take the photos I desire to. That's changing. Too many times do I forget my camera and regret it. It's heavy, multiple lenses, big tripods, its own backpack... Sometimes it feels like "too much". But in the end documenting my experiences are what drive me to continue photography. This summer I plan to push on and keep it with me at all times. You just never know what you'll capture. #campvibes #polerstuff #nature #jeep #camping #travel #hiking #forest #welltravelled #wanderlust #landscape #nomad #backpacking #vscocam #getoutstayout #getoutside #optoutside #thenorthface #neverstopexploring #adventure #explore #instatravel #travelgram #travelling #instagood #instamood #wildatheart #wanderfolk #namaste #naimakka #jeepofficial #ourcamplife (at Tinicum County Park)
