EvaJacks who wake up every morning feeling like they’re in a fairytale. Entangled together in warm bedsheets that smell of love and happy endings. Waking up slowly because Jacks insists on not letting her go, wanting to lie in bed with her for a little longer.
Evangeline who has to untangle herself from her boyfriend because she knows that if he has his way, they are NOT getting up from that bed anytime soon. He loves lying down with her in his arms, keeping her close to him. While burying his face into her pink hair that smells like love.
Evangeline who feeds all of their pets in the morning while petting them and asking them if they slept well. Having a range of little dragons that purr as she pets them, to cats that bump her ankles as she moves around, to foxes with the cutest little laughs.
Jacks, who told her they didn’t need any more pets but is a sucker for his pretty girlfriend and her pouty lips. Having an extremely hard time telling her no. So, he often gets jealous of the attention Evangeline gives them instead of focusing on him.
Jacks who wakes up and goes straight to searching for his little fox, who escaped his embrace while in bed. Coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her figure as she feeds all the little rascals. Leaving a trail of good morning kisses on her hair, cheek, shoulder and nuzzling her. As if he wants to steal her warmth.
When Dante was young and Julian was little, Julian followed him EVERYWHERE
Julian calls him legend sarcastically when he’s annoyed. Dante calls him brother when he’s being serious
Dante used to give Julian piggyback rides a lot
When they were younger Julian used to sneak Dante sweets because Dante would forget to eat while planning
They used to have fun competitions growing up over EVERYTHING. Who could do the most flips in a row, who could hold their breath underwater the longest, who could do the most pushups. It was never serious, though.
Julian is the only person who can casually walk into Dante’s private planning rooms without being stopped
Whenever Julian had a bad dream, he would climb into dante’s bed
Dante pretends to be annoyed every time but never actually stops him

They randomly say each other’s full names to address the other

When Legend started Caraval, like first started It, he checked on Julian every day to make sure he was okay. It was his way of showing Julian he cared even if he could never truly love him
Can we talk about how Evangeline got sent to the Magnificent North as the Meridian Empire’s ambassador because Scarlett and Tella didn’t want to deal with Jacks… and now she’s out there keeping the peace and keeping him in line? That’s diplomacy at its finest. I mean she fixed the mess and tamed the Fate. A true ambassador indeed
Summary: Evangline wakes up alone in the library, so she goes on a hunt for Jacks and a particular Baby Fox.
Evangeline could hear the distant ticking of the clock as she shifted in her chair, causing it to sway a bit. The last thing she remembered was sitting down to read, but she’d apparently fallen asleep, and she wasn’t sure how much time had passed now. Her book was no longer in her hand or even in her lap, and a soft blanket had been draped over her. Jacks’s doing, no doubt.
She pushed herself up slowly, causing the chair to swing even more. Jacks had revealed himself to be a bit of a carpenter three winters before when he’d built it, attaching it to the ceiling of their library in such a way that it was almost a swing. The chair more resembled the shape of a bowl than it did that of a swing, though, so Evangeline had never been quite sure what to call it.
Their daughter had started referring to it as the swingy seat, and Jacks had been quick to follow, agreeing that yes, the swingy seat was a perfect name.
Evangeline wondered where the two of them were now.
Once she’d managed to climb out of the chair, she tossed the blanket over it and padded down the steps. The tavern was empty save for a few hungry guests, and Jacks was not in their room. The only other place they could be was the garden.
Evangeline snagged her robe from the bedroom before finding her way back downstairs. While spring had recently arrived, the cold air had still been biting occasionally, and today was one of those days. She stepped out into the garden, her bare feet sinking into the cold dirt. It took her a moment of scanning the garden to spot the two of them, but they were indeed out here.
Jacks was knelt in the dirt with Liana on his lap, his nimble fingers weaving flowers through her pink-streaked blond hair. She was grinning and kicking her legs as she babbled to him, the dimple in her left cheek making its appearance every so often.
Evangline simply stood there and watched them for a second, enjoying the sight of her two favorite people. Liana was most resemblant of Jacks, though her eye color was beginning to more resemble Evangeline’s gray than Jacks’s blue, and there was the occasional strand of pink that ran through her hair. She’d only gotten one of Jacks’s dimples, but it was good enough for Evangeline. Either way, their tiny girl was adorable.
“Mama!” Liana squeaked as she finally noticed Evangeline. Her legs paused her swinging and she shifted to climb off Jacks’s lap, but his voice made her pause.
“Just a moment, Baby Fox, I’m almost done.”
Her lips jutted into a pout momentarily, reminding Evangeline of every time Jacks had pouted at her. Liana resembled Jacks so much sometimes that it was almost uncanny.
Jacks’s fingers dropped from her hair a moment later after securing her braid. He wrapped his hands around her waist and lifted her off his lap, setting her on her feet.
“Ok, there you go, Baby Fox.”
The tiny girl patted her hands over the flowers on her head, effectively smashing a few of them just a smidge, and then she leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Jacks’s cheek.
“T’ank you, Daddy!” she squeaked before turning back around and tripping across the dirt to Evangeline.
Evangeline scooped up the tiny girl as soon as she was close enough, settling her on her hip.
“Missed you, Mama,” she frowned.
Evangeline laughed. “Were you not having fun with Daddy?”
A brilliant grin appeared on Liana’s face then. “Was having fun with Daddy!”
Jacks strode across the garden towards them, hands in his pockets. He tugged on the sash that was keeping her robe together, pulling her closer to him and wrapping his arm around her waist.
“How was your nap?”
She smiled up at him. “It was very good. The blanket was your doing, I assume?”
He quirked an eyebrow. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Daddyyy,” Liana drew out. “Lying is bad!”
Evangeline smiled, nudging her husband in the ribs. “You heard your daughter. What kind of role model are you being?”
“Not a very good one, apparently,” he replied, leaning down close to Liana. “I thought we agreed the blanket was a secret,” he muttered, poking her armpit.
She giggled and wiggled away from him. “Daddy, no pokes!”
“No poking, huh?” he asked before leaning down and nibbling softly on her shoulder, eliciting even more giggles from her.
“I thought I was the only person you were allowed to bite,” Evangline commented teasingly.
“I never said that,” Jacks intoned dryly. “I said I was the only person who could bite you.”
His fingers toyed with her sash almost absent-mindedly as he waited for her response, but it never came. She simply smiled at him. It took him a moment, but he smiled back, his dimples making their appearance. She stood on her toes and planted a kiss to one of them.
“You’re cute.”
He made a noise somewhat similar to a grumble, and Liana giggled again.
“Let’s head inside, Little Fox.”
That evening was as lively as most evenings in The Hollow were. Dinner in the tavern usually contained multiple guests, and many of them had traveled to meet the Prince of Hearts and his princess. The Knightlingers had made Jacks and Evangeline into a fairytale that crossed borders, though the way the tale had been spun was far more outrageous than even the truth of it had been.
Evangline had become accustomed to picking bits of their story to tell, though she often left out the majority of it, leaving the rest of the holes to be filled by the gossip sheets.
After dinner, the tavern cleared out and Liana was drooping, very quickly beginning to fall asleep. Jacks scooped her up easily and rested her against his chest.
“Is it bedtime?” he asked.
She shook her head. “Time for stories.”
He smiled and tilted his head towards Evangeline. “Story time?”
That had always been code for heading up to the library, and Jacks carried Liana easily up to the top floor, Evangeline following with a candle in hand.
“What should we read tonight?” Jacks asked once they were in the library, though he already knew the answer to that question.
“Read about Archer and Fox,” Liana responded with a giggle.
He let out a dramatic sigh. “I suppose we can do that.”
He pulled the well-read ballad off the bookshelf and handed Liana to Evangeline, trading her for the candle which he set on the table beside the reading chair. He lowered himself into the chair next, anchoring it by putting his foot on the ground.
Evangline joined him in the chair a moment later, settling herself across his lap and letting Liana get comfortable snuggled between them. Jacks took his foot off the ground and let them sway slightly as he leaned back and opened the book. He cleared his throat.
“Once upon a time….”
