Pakicetus was a carnivorous ungulate (hoofed animal) native to Pakistan. It is regarded as an ancestor to whales based on structures of its ear, which are found only in the whale order Cetacea. It’s habits are debated, as most of it’s body is seem most adapted to a terrestrial life style, but a few features suggest a somewhat aquatic nature. For one, it’s orbits are set high on the head like a hippo, which could have allowed it to expose very little of itself while eyeing it’s surroundings while in the water. It’s bones are also dense, which is something else seen in aquatic animals, as it combats buoyancy.

Kutchicetus have a mild disagreement in the surf. Kutchicetus are early whales, and one of the first species to use it’s whole body and tail to move through water, rather than using it’s limbs to propel it forwards.
