The Oscars
So, I’ll admit that I didn’t actually follow through with my plans to stay up and watch the Oscars live this year BUT i did a very extensive twitter search the second I woke up on Monday morning - so I am WELL caught up. My main thoughts... LEOscar!!! Obviously along with the rest of the world, I’m very please about LDC winning his first ever Oscar, as I have been in love with him since the Jack Dawson glory days. What I love about him is that he seems like such a decent guy, totally humble and modest - in a genuine way, not in a ‘Winslet trying desperately to look surprised she’s won’ sort of a way. The dresses. General opinion (amongst my friends and sisters) are that the style was a bit of a let down this year. I usually struggle to pick a favourite because they are all so special. This year I struggled to pick a favourite because they were all a bit bland. If i HAD to pick, I’d go for Margot Robbie’s gold snakeskin Tom Ford number - it was an absolute show-stopper but her hair and makeup were a bit of a letdown though. I think with a simple up-do and a red lip she’d have nailed it! (oh and Gaga, looked pretty fierce as always) I am ALL for celebrities using their voice for good BUT I must say that I like the Oscars to be a light-hearted and fun affair and 2016 will go down in the history books as one of the most political ceremonies to date. There was the well addressed elephant in the room (just don’t mention it’s colour) regarding the highly publicised race-row. Lady Gaga performed a super emotional tribute to sexual assault victims and even Leo D Cap gave a big old shoutout to climate change in his acceptance speech. I’m not saying these aren’t super important issues and lets be honest people are more likely to pay attention to Gaga than some middle aged politician BUT I do really think the Oscars should be me more Fashion Police than Question Time.
And that’s it. Let the countdown to 2017 begin.
