it’s almost the winter solstice! I plan to start Yule off by doing a ritual with Helios to thank Him for His light and warmth. figured I’d share if anyone wants to do it as well :)
the intentions: to thank Helios for His light and to honor Him. for the end of the dark half of the year
- a Helios oil blend (as an offering and to anoint)
- a hymn to read (i will be using this one)
- 2 orange candles (can be substituted for yellow or more white ones)
- frankincense incense (or chocolate, for a closing offering)
- tarot spread (optional if divination isn’t your thing)
to start, cast a circle around you and your items. speak:
“Great God Helios, I invite you to join me in a ritual in your honor.”
light 2 white candles and 1 orange. as you light them, speak:
“As I light these candles, I invoke you, your light, and your warmth.”
now say the intentions of the ritual, which are to thank Him for his light and the start of the end of the dark half of the year. then, read the hymn.
after that, offer Him the oil. talk about what you put in it and why. speak from the heart. then, anoint your inner wrists and neck with it, then one of the white candles. light the candle and say a prayer. here’s the one i wrote for this:
“Helios, with your light shining bright
I speak to you to thank you for your fight
You watching above
Illuminating all who live under the sun
I thank you for your light
For your warmth
And for your coming arrival
A god thousands of years old, faithfully rising and setting
And I, faithful in you, rise and stand alongside
Blessed Be the Earth and all its inhabitants on this blessed
Winter Solstice Day
May your forthcoming light be bright
And raise our joy
And in faithful spirits,
May Blessed Be this Yule season
Guided by your divine sight”
now have a nice meditation sessions with Him. think about warmth, healing energy, the sun, love. think of Him. invite His energy to mingle with yours. do it for however long feels right. then, go into a tarot reading with Him. Ask for Him to guide your hand in picking cards with His message and wisdom.
after that, thank Him once more. take down your circle and move the offerings to an altar or designated space. to finish, give a final offering. i will be lighting frankincense incense for this. say goodbye, and that’s it.
