You DO need that downtime. If for nothing else than for what you write to marinate or proof and for you to stop the emotional yo-yoing between “this is amazing / this is shit” as you review your work.

So write a little each day if that works for you. But if regimenting your time burns you out or makes writing feel like you’re at a job (yes even you, published author, who actually does this for income) then don’t do that.

Let the words flow when they flow. Sometimes you have other thing that need dealing with and YES, one of those things is allowed to be rest.

Don’t let Calvinism infect your writing. You don’t need to write every day to be a worthy author. Write when you want to and are able to write and you’ll be happier with yourself and happier with your writing.
