Guide II: Surviving Spirits

As a Cryptid, you may have encountered many who despise you or your kind. Generally you should pay no mind to them, but spirits are a different matter. I only have direct experience with northern spirits and wights, but perhaps in the future another mod (flare i am talking to you) will be able to give more insight on other kinds.

what to do if:

You cannot sleep all night. It’s too cold. You wake up and there is snow on the ground. You did not sleep.

have you worn iron jewelry recently? perhaps these are fae you are dealing with. find another guide.

if not, leave two silver dollars at the tallest tree you can find. don’t bring bronze or brass. if you did, go say goodbye.

there’s nothing you can do.

if the silver dollars are back in your house before sunrise, they forgive you. do not anger them again.

Animals shun you. even the crows you always feed wait until you walk away to eat.

enter the woods. you know which one.

bring your child mind. she likes children. pray she will take pity on you. there is no other way.

keep walking until you see the staircase.

if you find an arc or bridge before the staircase you need to leave town. now.

go to the top of the staircase and reach into your pocket. you will find what she wants.

throw it over the edge.

immediately go home and go to sleep. it will be very hard to fall into slumber.

when you awake, continue your life as normal. it doesn’t matter when you wake up, just find something to do.

the trees are whispering about you. they laugh in your dreams. you want to laugh too.

don’t laugh. don’t even smile. they can NOT know you hear them.

ask the sky to help you. do it in the middle of a cornfield or somewhere they can’t hear you.

you have to be in good terms with the sky for this one. only the sky can save you from what they’re planning.

don’t sleep with your teeth under your pillow. if you must, get someone else’s teeth to sleep with.

everything should sort itself out after this.

So the current research says that 66 percent of millennials have no retirement savings, 63 percent have over $10,000 in debt, and 31 percent are still living with their parents.

As a millennial who has no debt, a 401(k) and an IRA, and who is having a house built, I just want to say something to counter all the negative messages bombarding my generation about how lazy and entitled we all are. Do you know what’s the difference between me and those statistics?

Sheer dumb luck.

That’s it. I didn’t do anything differently than anyone else. I didn’t make better choices or go into the right major or any of that nonsense. I was just lucky enough to be born into a family with parents who could put enough into my savings that, when combined with scholarships, allowed me to graduate from college without any debts. I had pretty much no savings by the time I got my degree, but starting from nothing is still easier than starting with a negative balance.

I got hired within two months of graduation, and I’ve been with that company for going on six years. Again, nothing but dumb luck. My major, creative writing (one of the stereotypical ‘useless degrees’) has nothing to do with my career. They just needed employees and I happened to interview at the right time. And I was lucky enough that the job was in an area where I could live at home, rent-free, developing the savings that put me in a position to sign a contract on a house.

I was privileged and lucky. That’s it.

Sure, I worked hard in school. I gave it my all in my job interview. I’ve put in effort to get where I am.

But people without the head starts I had have worked much harder. I didn’t have to claw my way out of debt and poverty to get where I am. If I had to do that, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be another statistic for the boomers to dismiss.

You’re not doing anything wrong. You aren’t the ones who broke the economy. I haven’t figured out some correct, adult way of doing things that you haven’t. I just happened to start the game with some of the cheat codes.

You are all doing the best you can, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Just getting back from PEI where a couple friends and I were checking out a new local con (IEX 2019! Pretty good!) and for dicks sake my ass is sore from driving nearly five hours straight 😭.

Bright side is I get to go home tonight and sleep in my own bed (besides the fact that the hotel bed was COMFY AF) and I get to spoil my roommate @hubcat99 haha.

All in all, I had a pretty good few days away from Nova Scotia :3 now I can't wait to flop on my bed and die for a few hours hahaha.

Getting my feelings out

Hey Tumblr, ignore this if you want to, I'm just venting out my shit.

I've been feeling extremely depressed lately, and I'm not sure what to do about it besides hide it all under a mountain of work and a smile. I asked a friend out, and they rejected me which is totally cool cause we're still friends, but doesn't help my mental state. I love my roommate to death, but lately I've been feeling swallowed up and like I need to escape.

Maybe I'm just feeling selfish, maybe it's the winter blues hitting me hard... But I just feel so damn tired and like I want to just curl up in a ball and sleep forever.

Maybe I need to seek counseling or something. I just want to know what I can do.
