Radical Face- Welcome Home
this song never fails to make me feel like dancing around with a huge smile on my face.

Will grimaced. He most certainly had never thought of himself as special, so Reign wouldnât be getting any argument from him on that account.
Following her through the double doors, he thought back, âIf itâs so dangerous, why do you do it? Why do you stay here?â
Aloud, he added, âItâs not related deaths, so much as one particular case. There was an anonymous tip that linked the Wenson case to our victim since theyâd threatened Hess.â
Once inside her office, Reign began speaking normally again. âA friend?â he echoed, suddenly appearing uncertain. âIs he like you? LikeâŠus?â Despite his need to trust in this woman, he still found himself skeptical and anxious. âWhat happens if heâs too busy? Will we need to do this on our own?â
Fortunately, it didnât seem that they would need to wait long on an answer. Reign held up a finger, indicating that sheâd reached her friend, before she began speaking on her phone. She sounded exasperated. If Will hadnât been so distressed, he wouldâve been amused by the clear indication that she got herself into scrapes quite often. Despite not being able to hear Ruevenâs end of the line, it was evident what his thought process entailed.
Reign hung up and spoke of another one of them. Will blinked once, twice, trying to process everything, and on his third blink, a young man materialized mere yards away. Will jerked at the cracking sound.
The newcomer â Rueven, as heâd heard Reign address him â approached with a confident swagger that did little to put Will at ease. His next question was equally unsettling. Freaky things to a corpse?
Wrinkling his brow, Will exhaled and shook his head. âI justâŠI bring the dead back for short periods of time. Itâs how I solve the majority of the cases for the Bureau. Only a small few are aware of my gift.â The word âgiftâ caught in his throat like taffy, making it quite evident that he considered his abilities anything but a gift. âRegardless, I donât think I have to say just how disastrous things will be if someone secures that footage before we can get to it. Can you help?â
Reign would have liked to give Will a little more warning about Rueven, but unfortunately the young man...well, he had done what she asked. Reign had asked him to come immediately, and that was what he did. Maybe she should have told him to come in one minute. That would have been sufficient enough time. Luckily, Will didnât react violently to the sudden appearance as some had the habit of doing when exposed to someone that literally appears out of thin air. For someone who had never met another human with abilities, Will was taking all this fairly well.
Unfortunately, Rueven wasnât exactly well versed in subtly. This was clearly a tense moment, and Rueven approached it with humor that certainly was not participated by either party involved. Reign shot him a glare. âNot cool,â she hissed. Rueven however smirked, clearly amused by the discomfort he caused.
âIâve never met anyone with an ability like that,â Rueven murmured, gaze flicking up Willâs form. It was clear he wondered if that was all Will was capable of, but in order to appease Reign he decided not the voice that. âYou a cop or something? That sounds like cheating. People probably think youâre some wiz of the criminal investigation world when really you just have some magical trick.â
ââHeâs not a threat,ââ Reign insisted to Rueven via thought before reiterating Willâs prior request. âI need you to get into the security room and erase that footage. Itâs probably from around ten twenty-nine. If you can, just get rid of that section, alright? That way itâll seem like a glitch in the camera and--
â--not deliberate, right, I got it,â he grumbled, removing his bandaged hands from his pockets to adjust his jacket. Even this time of year, Rueven preferred dark colors and layers. If not for the situation, Reign would have teased him about it. âIâll let you know when I finish,â he said.
âYouâre a life savor, Rue.â
âYeah, thatâs what I do.â Without another word, Rueven disappeared just as he came. This time there wasnât a small quake as a result, though it was likely it would happen in the building.
Reign turned to Will and offered an encouraging smile. âRueven can manipulate electricity, so he should be able to get in and out of there fairly quickly.â After a beat, she added, âSorry heâs the way he is, but heâll make sure things get done and get done well. Preservation of our kind is incredibly important to him.â

A headache? With a weak smile, he pretended to be nodding along to something Reign had said aloud. âI wasnât aware that there were other superhuman beings other than myself. Are there more of you? Or are you the only one?â
Admittedly, Will felt a touch of hope at the notion of there being other beings who defied normalcy. All his life, his gift of empathy had proven to be a curse rather than a miracle, and had only been exacerbated by his motherâs fear and inevitable abandonment.
>
Reignâs confusion was clearly not feigned, and Will rolled his lips inward. âMr. Hess believes â ahâŠbelieved â that the Wenson case caused a snowball effect that brought about tensions in the Abbott & Abbott law firm. If we can find that file, perhaps we can narrow down the list of suspects.â
Internally, Reign informed him of the risks, and he followed her out the door. âWe can probably acquire the folders from the Bureau,â he agreed. âMy superior is aware of my gift, and uses it for exceptionally difficult cases. Heâll help us get the file.â
Out in the hallway, he added as an afterthought, âIâm unfamiliar with these grounds, so Iâll let you lead the way.â
The corners of her lips quirked upwards when Will referred to them as âsuperhumanâ. That certainly was what many would define them as, but the thought of her being anything super was amusing to her. ââThere are plenty of others like us. You canât be the only special one.ââ It was strange to her that Will had never come across another person with extraordinary abilities before. Granted, not everyone had the gift of telepathy to help aid in picking out the inhuman from a crowd, but she didnât always find them. Sometimes they just found each other. To think that Will had gone his entire life thinking he was a freak was quite sad to her.Â
She offered a nod in response to his auidible words. âAh, I see,â she murmured. âHow many related deaths have there been?â Once Will was out of the mortuary, Reign let the doors close and stepped along side him, keeping herself a footstep ahead. ââThatâs good that you have someone on your side,ââ she sent to him. ââWorking in the government is especially dangerous for our kind.ââ At least they didnât have to stay in the building any longer than necessary. Out of fear of someone seeing the footage before they could get to it Reign wanted to get Will out of there as soon as possible.Â
There was only one stop in the building before they were out the double doors of the establishment-- her office in order to grab her purse. Squinting at the sun, Reign fished her phone out of her pocket. âTen thirty-four in the morning...So the footage we need to look at is probably from around ten twenty-nine,â Reign murmured, more to herself than to him. Sighing softly, she turned on her heal slightly to view Will better. âThereâs no audio on the outside security cameras, so we should be fine as long as no one sneaks up on us,â she told him, hoping to ease at least some of his tension. âI have a friend who can get into the tapes, but I have to make sure heâs available. His schedule is insane. If not, I can get to it through some coercion.â To her it was obvious that she meant through her abilities, but after a beat she realized that sounded a tad sexual and a sheepish smile lifted her lips. âMental, I mean, of course,â she decided to add. âIâll call him now.âÂ

ââŠYouâre making fun of me arenât you?â The brunet pouted a little as he then was licking his lips off some ice cream he had on him and hummed, âYou can have some now if you want,â
âJust think of it as me laughing with you, not at you.â When offered the ice cream, Anatole waved a hand in dismissal. âUnfortunately we canât all have a freakishly fast metabolism, and I choose to waste my calories on scotch.â

she was so mad. stupid damn truck and her need to want to    try and see the rest of the swamp. next time sheâll make sure to stay    where she knows. the palm of her hand goes to wipe the little bit    of blood thatâs started to get into her eyes but nods slowly at the     stranger. âsorta - i should be okay,â the small words slip from her    lips while smoke continues to bellow out from the engine.
Rueven was tempted to take her word for it and be on his way, but the wasteland of a they were currently stopped on told him to wait. The swamp was probably full of men with chainsaws for hands waiting to feed people to their alligators. âYou sure? I know head wounds bleed a lot, but that looks pretty bad...â That was kind of weird to say.Â
There was a beat of silence and Rueven glanced over his shoulder, as if looking for another car to come relieve him of his duties. âWant me to call someone or something?â

Reignâs pleasant expression belied what she had seen, so Will found himself slowly start to soften into a stance of acceptance. âItâs alright,â he assured her. âI was the one who acted unnecessarily hostile. Itâs not as if Hess and I were having a conversation.â
Ha, ha, good one.
Accepting the paper from her hand, it took Will a moment to realize that Reignâs voice was not alongside him, but rather, inside him â inside his head. His eyes widened and he looked to her in stunned silence. What in Godâs name? How was she doing this? Did she knowâŠ? Yes. She definitely knew.
>
Panicked, Will looked up toward the security cameras and felt himself prickle all over with alarm. How could he have been so stupid? In his haste, heâd forgotten all about the damn cameras.
âWhat do you want?â Will asked, deciding to answer her in his mind. âNobody just wants to âhelpâ me for free â if you think this gift of mine can get you something, youâre wrong.â
Reign spoke again, seeming to note that their silence had been going on for far too long. âUhâŠyes,â he stammered. âIf at all possible, I need a file pulled on the Abbott & Abbott law firm pertaining to the Wenson case. Are you able to help with that?â
Still shaking, Will added, âWhat are we supposed to do now? Do you have access to the security feed?â
Reign shrugged in response, a soft smile lifting the corners of her lips. âI know how involved people can get in their work. You probably didnât even hear me enter.â She appreciated his use of irony, but she wasnât about to voice that in either applicable form. They had more pressing matters to deal with. ââI know this is weird if you havenât dealt with a telepathic before-- just try to stay calm. Donât want to give yourself a headache.ââ Willâs eyes were wide and fearful, but his stance didnât change in response to the new voice in his head. Facial expressions wouldnât register too well on the camera unless they were grand, and Will didnât seem like that type of man.
She was mildly surprised when Will questioned her motives. It didnât hurt her on a personal level, sometimes people had bad experiences, but nonetheless she felt somewhat pained that heâd been failed so many times that he couldnât accept her help as just that. ââItâs okay sweetheart. Our type has to stick together. If we canât help each other, then how can we expect to survive?ââ She wished she could convey her desire to help physically, but she didnât want to appear too forward on camera. Something would seem up.Â
However, she didnât have to feign confusion when Will went on about some file. âThe...Wenson case? Is that a case with a similar murder or something?â she asked. âI can take you to our file room and see if thereâs something we can find for you.â Returning to the door, Reign pushed it open for him and waited to be joined. ââI personally do not have access to the security feed, but I know someone who can gain access. If heâs not available, I think I could figure something else out. Do you actually need that file? If not, we should head out.ââÂ

Dr. Meyers was all perfunctory politeness, but Will instantly felt uncomfortable in his presence. There was a probing quality that he feared in doctors, and because of this, he very rarely spoke to them. Meyers was disarming compared to most, but Will still found himself unsettled as he followed the other man into the mortuary.
âIâve only been given the basic rundown,â Will said, âso Iâm afraid my knowledge doesnât extend beyond your own. Thank you, though. Iâll let you know when Iâm finished.â
Dr. Meyers nodded, fortunately able to take the dismissive social cue, before he turned and left Will to be alone with the corpse.
Discreetly, Will checked the doctorâs departure before pulling back the sheet to the body. Hess was an older man, slightly balding, with several stab wounds across the chest and stomach. Close contact killings usually provided a good chance of facial recognition.
Starting up the timer on his watch, Will tapped the body just in time for Hess to jerk awake. âWh-what?â Hess sputtered. âWhereâŠ?â
âMr. Hess, my name is Special Agent Will Graham,â he quickly spoke. âWe only have a matter of time to speak, but this is very important: can you tell me who stabbed you?â
Hess blinked. âIâd never seen him beforeâŠI donât know who he was, but he kept shouting about how I would pay.â
âYou work for the Abbott & Abbott law firm, correct?â
âYeah, thatâs right. I think the guy thought I was Abbott Sr., now that I think about it! He kept screaming at me about how my decision on the Wenson case was going to ruin his life.â
âAnd can you give me any descriptions of this man?â
âUhh, he was tall â about 6 feet, I guess? â with short, dark hair. Thatâs all I could really make out, though.â
âThank you, Mr. Hess. Thatâs a promising start.â Tapping the manâs shoulder, Will watched as the body collapsed heavily against the slab. Thatâs when he realized he wasnât alone.
Slowly turning his head, Will felt bile raise in the back of his throat when he realized it was Reign. âHowâŠ? H-how long have you been standing there?â
At the moment, Reign didnât have much to do. Though only at the morgue two days a week, Reign knew the routines of those around her. Before the lunch hours, people attempted to be productive, motivated by their fresh minds and work. After theyâd had their midday meal, however, people would trickle in and out of her office. Some actually came for guidance, others came for a distraction. But before then, there was little work Reign truly had, as consequently these were the hours when Reign did her snooping. Bored, sheâd peer into the minds of her colleagues. Sometimes guilt stopped her. Other times she was really, really bored.Â
But today was different. Today they had Will Graham. His mind was completely different from those around her, and it fascinated her. Only somewhat abashed, Reign found herself poking into the consultantâs head, curious to know how he worked. That was when she felt the spark-- like a bolt of electricity running through him, and then there was another mind in the room with him.Â
Reign shot up from behind her desk. Had she simply not noticed a doctor in the room with him? That was ridiculous, Reign knew where everyone was at all times. No. This was someone else. Hesitant, she reached out to them. The mind was cold and confused, causing shivers to lance through her. It was Hess. Hess was alive. Had Will...done this?Â
Not wasting another moment, Reign picked up a scrap paper from her desk and hurried out of her office in the direction of the mortuary. Her eyes snapped around akin to a hawk searching for its prey, wanting to be certain no one was following her or headed in the same direction. If Will Graham truly had brought this man back from the dead, he didnât need an audience-- hell, Hess didnât need an audience.Â
Quietly, she pushed open the door just in time to hear the tail end of the conversation. Will touched the manâs shoulder, and he fell again, body seeming to immediately grey and turn rigid once more. Upon being spotted, her eyes were wide, but not out of fear. She was quick to soften. âSorry, I didnât mean to startle you,â Reign told him, forcing a sheepish smile. âI found a misplaced paper on Hess and thought you would want it.â He was panicked. It was better to come out now than to leave him in the dark. As she stepped forward to offer him the paper, she spoke in his head. ââDid you check the cameras before preforming your little miracle? If this gets out there youâll be hounded.ââ It didnât occur to her until after she had projected her voice into his head that he may never have encountered another person with gifts like his before. She should have been more gentle. ââThis is Reign, by the way. Youâre not alone. I can help you. Just think, Iâll be able to hear you.ââ There had been too much audible silence. âDo you have some leads or anything?â she asked aloud, gaze flicking between Willâs ashen features and the bodyâs.Â
"Maybe if you actually said anything worth while, Iâd listen. Just fuckinâ spit it out before I decide a nap is more worth my time.â
âDearly beloved are you listening? I canât remember a word that you were saying Are we demented or am I disturbed? The space thatâs in between insane and insecure Oh, therapy, can you please fill the void? Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed? Nobodyâs perfect and I stand accused For lack of a better word, and thatâs my best excuseâ
benjamin eidem (19-27)
go get out more they said.     it wonât be that bad they said.      youâll be fine they said.        but she crashed her truck into a damn tree.        thereâs a reason louella doesnât drive.           âdang,â the words slip from her mouth as        she slides out of the drivers seat - blood dripping        from her forehead.
In most cases, Rueven was not the type of person to stop and help another if it was inconvenient. However, there were a few factors that caused him to stop: First, car accident. Second, no one else around. Third, pitch black. Fourth, blood.Â
Pulling over to the side of the road, Rueven left his headlights on as he exited the car to better assess the situation. âYou good?â he called to the young woman, squinting in her direction as though it would aid his vision.Â
ââŠâ Big brown eyes blinked slowly as he looked at the other staring at him, spoon full of the strawberry shortcake ice cream mid-way to his mouth, then cutely gave them the âpuppy dog eyesâ ââŠI was taste testing it for poisoning. Youâre welcomeâŠâ
Lips quirking upwards in amusement, Anatole gave him a smirk. âI should have someone like you around at all times, testing all my food for poison. It looks like youâre thorough.âÂ
