Astrid laughed, her hand clasping over her mouth as Amorette brought back two drinks. Taking one, she held it up. “You still win, and we still get to get drunk.” Sipping from the cup, she nearly finished her drink before getting off of the stool. “How do you do it?”
Amorette chuckled softly, it was a question she had been asked forever; how she did it. The blonde looked at Astrid with a look of secrecy, as she shrugged innocently and pursed her lips. “Well, firstly, look at me.”
Astrid bit her lip, glancing between the blonde and the guy a few times before nodding. “I’m fighting a losing battle, go get him tiger.” She brought out a one hundred dollar bill and set it on the bar top to show she was serious.
A little drunk and high on the thrill of gambling, Amorette laughed at Astrid, swiping the bill back to her and shaking her head. “Indeed, it is a losing battle. You’re just giving me money here.” She rolled her eyes. “We both know I’m good enough to get him to buy us both a drink.” The blonde winked, jumping off her stool to head to the other side of the bar, only to return ten minutes later with two cosmos. “Only the most stereotypical feminine drink in the world, but hey, I still win.” She gestured to her glass, taking a sip.
“A hundred dollars says if that guy even thinks about it, he’ll get punched in the face,” he replied with a shrug, like it was the most normal thing on Earth. “If you’re willing to spend that much on a bet, why don’t you spend that much money on your own drink, princess.”
Amorette bowed her head to hide the smile that infiltrated her expression, biting onto her bottom lip as they threatened to separate to show off her toothy smile. “A little possessive there, baby?” She asked, dropping a hand from the bar to lightly graze up and down his leg as they sat beside each other. “It’s just less money for you to pay if other guys are doing it thinking they have a chance with me..” She mumbled, leaning over to press a kiss to his jaw.
“A hundred dollars says I can get this guy to buy me a drink.” Amorette said as she smiled across the bar flirtatiously, licking her lips before looking back to who she was talking to. “Oh, please, a hundred is nothing.” She rolled her eyes.
He was not my boyfriend. On the other hand, he wasn’t just a friend either. Instead, our relationship was elastic, stretching between those two extremes depending on who else was around, how much either of us had to drink, and other varying factors. This was exactly what I wanted, as commitments had never really been my thing. And it wasn’t like it was hard, either. The only trick was never giving more than you were willing to lose.
