according to my mother, my father proposed by asking her "are you willing to put up with my bullshit for the rest of your life" and her response was "if you're asking what I think you're asking, you'd better get on one knee and do it right"
I want to learn more exclamations that aren’t strictly just religious stuff. “Jesus Christ” this, “oh my god” that, nah I want something fresh.
What are some of y’all’s favorite exclamations that aren’t about god?
first submission and we're already off to a fantastic start. absolutely love this one thank you
ok its time for the challenge round now we want nominations that arent about sex either actually
had a friend who used to make new ones up on the spot. The only one that stuck with me was 'good golly jelly beans'. If something catastrophic happens I go for 'that's not ideal.'
@chekhovs-tantrum
Absolutely not letting you leave these in the tags.
A cultural favourite ...
"Cheese on bread." (my best guess is that it's sort of rhyming slang. Jesus = Cheesus. And what do you put cheese on? Bread.)
"What the bird?" + "What the rastaman?" (said like, 'What the fuck?')

What's a book written by a woman that changed your life or that you consider a classic? Any genre, any language.
“Annie John” by Jamaica Kincaid.
I do not know how other countries do it, but here, they teach English Lit, and other Comprehension exercises via these little blurbs of stories. Some are Caribbean, some aren't.
I remember distinctly coming across the description of the 'Red Girl' character. Hearing how the author described her.
Ironically enough, I don't think I ever finished the book, but that passage just stuck out to me as a kid. Very poignant in a weirdly yearning, sort of way.
(And I always remembered the author's name because it seemed so unique.)
When I got older and I was reading up on the book, seeing that it was a sort of ... same-sex love story (an angle the author has always denied) made me go: "Oh. Okay, that's why it sounds like that."
Particularly, the author's description that any same-sex relationship between the protagonist and her best friend was just 'practicing'. Considering that the author has the tendency to write Who She Knows (i.e. herself), it's really made me wonder.
Anyways.
Read more Caribbean authors.
