it really does just bring me to my knees how defiant they were in a way when it comes to having been closeted for so long and terrified of speculation and homophobia and still pushing beds together and phil’s boncas moment and the way they still showed so much love for each other in videos and you can say oh well they just couldn’t help it or oh they were young and “didn’t know better” but they knew better than i’d say anyone ever and even if it did spring from a love and enjoyment of the other one that was hard to contain or limit, it was still moment after moment of choices made for 16 years.
like dan has said, he hadn’t exactly been subtle, and neither had phil. idk i just think that even at their most afraid and most closeted they were bold and they were so brave. they shouldn’t have had to go through all of that but they really were still doing their best to be themselves when they couldn’t be out.
#nodding nodding nodding. yeagh..... #i think it's also probably the biggest reason why they made it thru while a lot of other couples in their situation would not have #choosing love in spite of the fear... choosing each other in spite of the fear....... #they say 'at least we had each other' and truly i think them having each other is what got them thru#and not just having each other in the sense that they were like literally together but #having each other in the most active and deliberate and intentional way #choosing each other for 16 years (and counting <3) (via @backin09)
yes!!! i agree. i think "at least we had each other" and "i don't think i have to forgive you" are mindsets that are kind of pillars for how they stayed together through All of That. they had each other and they didn't grow to resent each other for their situation, which i feel like can happen so often in situations where no one is REALLY at fault but the stress and pain of it is just too much. and for them it really was like. their partnership their love their relationship was always the priority.
if you go looking for doom and gloom all you will see is doom and gloom. if you go looking for reduced items at the grocery store you may find a littol treat
whats funny about even conceptualizing a gay hockey romance between players is no matter what idea you come up with, someone could assume you probably based it in part on an existing dynamic whether you intentionally did or not. (a rookie and a vet? brioux. longtime teammaes? take your pick. a goalie and star player? subban/price. not even rivals they just actually violently hate each other? sidclaude. traded apart and reunited? mikejeff or tzjd. dynamic duo? again take your pick. “touch him and die” star player/enforcer? literally every star player and their enforcer of the 80s/90s)
You did it. You killed me.
