Announcing the second annual Sherlock Sunday Summer Serial Writing Challenge!
The Sherlock Sunday Summer Serial is a writing challenge that blends BBC Sherlock and the Victorian novel or setting of your choice. The second annual Summer Serial runs from June 7 until everyone has come to a satisfactory conclusion.
Originally, the serial was born out of a New York Times article comparing Victorian serial publication with fanfiction. Well, that, and intense Victorian nerdery that manifested in the desire to see our favourite BBC characters in waistcoats and/or corsets and using awkward but period-appropriate lubricant.  This second annual serial is made even more exciting because of setlock (I will say no more for those who don’t want to be spoiled), so grab a novel and join us!
What are the ground rules?
Works must be Victorian-themed: either an adaptation of a Victorian/long nineteenth-century novel or set in the Victorian era (1837-1901)Â
Works must be published serially, starting on the first Sunday in June
Anyone! We have three confirmed participants this year, and we would love to have more! Just send me an ask!
If I am working with a Victorian novel, can I adapt the original text?
You can! Both of the Summer Serial 2014 novels work with the original text; all you have to do is acknowledge that in your notes.
You can. Again, this was the case for both last year’s novels, but please notice that my 2014 serial hasn’t actually been completed yet and for that reason I will never do a WIP serial again! However, I will be completing North and South in the next four or five weeks.
I don’t know any Victorian novels, but I’d like to. What do I do?
