author update:

it's my partner's birthday day! between increased responsibilities at work, watching the world cup, and summer festivities overall, i'll be a little less active on tumblr until the fall. not gone completely! but not posting daily / looking at my dash all that often.

i'm still working on my stories - some of you know from our dms (hello to my readers who have been kind enough to reach out! i love chatting with you!) but i have been working on dating on airplane mode chapter 5 for the past month. tbd on if it will remain on hiatus until i am fully done the story or if i will do chapter by chapter - i feel like the former is easier given the responses i have received via inbox for the past year. tokyo homecoming's first chapter and prologue is nearly done, but i want to get a few more chapters finished before posting for the same exact reason. i have also been dabbling in expanding on my MHA 'universe', so to speak, with my oc.

i'll announce a week ahead if/when there will be updates. otherwise i'm taking it easy on the beach for a bit to read some tradpub books 💗

The statement gave you pause. A million questions raced through your mind, but you were only able to settle on one to voice. "Is that why you haven't killed me?"

His laugh rumbled the walls. "No, I need you for something else."

A laugh, edged with something sharp, echoed loudly along the walls. "Is drawing your claymore a way of greeting? I wouldn't classify this as a visit."

There was no response you could give that did not sound crass. Still, the truth irritated your skin like itchy wool.

"Be gone, human. Leave me be."

A warning growl shook the earth when your feet remained. "You are playing a dangerous game."

"I know."

fandom: jujutsu kaisen featuring: megumi, tsumiki & dadjo tags: technically fluff, potentially angst. it’s up to you :’)

There are no monsters here, save for the awful-looking, dragon-shaped kite soaring through the air. It’s the only thing disturbing the ever blue backdrop. You’d think Gojo would’ve picked something less trashy. (Or not.)

But as Megumi lets the sun soak him up, his sister’s laughter tiptoes its way to him, so maybe the ugly toy isn’t all that important. He even relents when Gojo disturbs his peace and pulls him toward the shoreline.

It’s quite nice, this fleeting freedom.

When he shuts his eyes and breathes in the salty air, blue floods his vision; laughter echoes in his ears.

His voice echoed strangely as he responded. "The last time a human visited me, he mocked the man leading the coup. Clearly he underestimated his opponent."

The face above you was not one you were expecting. Human, outside of the obsidian horns that twisted from the silver white hair on his head. Garnet eyes that were as bright as the gem itself.

His scowl had heat flooding your face - an irritated noise left him as he pulled you back up.

You returned your claymore to its place on your back.

Saved by your mark. An embarrassment of a knight. Should you fail now, there was no doubt you would be exiled once you returned.

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
