Autism a guide (how I got my mother to listen)
My mum has never really understood autism, she only realised I have it last year, I’ve tried every way of telling her about it to no avail. On Monday I made a booklet full of articles on what autism is, what the side effects are, statistics, meltdowns, how to cope, how to help and my own personal triggers. I gave it to her before I went to bed to make sure she had plenty of time to go through it. I saw her again Tuesday night after work, and she sat down and said everything I’ve ever wanted to hear from her. She finally understands it, even meltdowns, and I’ve never felt closer to her. Finding a different way to communicate works.
