Sorry for the inactivity lately, life has been weird. Here’s an AU dump thing that I drew ages ago but just couldn’t get it together to post.
Context below the cut which you may wanna skip over if you’re sensitive to such things as suicide and body horror.
So like y’all ever seen the glut of AUs where Midoriya’s quirk turns out to be like immortality or somethn like that. And usually he discovers this in a suicide attempt and then goes on to hide this fact and explore how exactly his powers work & continues to have no self worth & be mentally unhealthy in general? Yeah this is kinda somethin my brain spat out in response to that.
The premise is the same to start but the first difference is that he doesn’t fully regenerate from dying. In fact he doesn’t regenerate at all. He’s essentially something like a Zombie, although luckily whatever his power actually is keeps his body from rotting, it also doesn’t heal or age or change in any way. He also doesn’t feel pain or need to eat or breathe anymore, so there are pros as well as cons, but dying wasn’t without consequence either.
The second change is that this isn’t something he can hide from people. He essentially has a panic attack when he wakes up after a suicide attempt to find that all of his blood is outside of his body and yet he’s still here, and his mom comes home to find him in that state. It’s not pretty.
She rushes him off to the hospital and innumerable tests confirm that he is in fact, undeniably dead, and the fact that he’s still walking around and thinking and feeling is nothing short of a miracle. It decidedly does not feel like a miracle to Izuku.
His mom pulls him out of school and signs him up for therapy. It’s a pretty difficult process considering he no longer has the capacity to be affected by anti-depressants, or even to cry if his emotions get overwhelming. His mom is trying to put on a brave face but she’s clearly overcome with guilt and grief over the situation, and that weighs on Izuku as well. And yet slowly but surely things get better, especially after Inko agrees to receive counseling as well. Going to see a therapist together does wonders for the lack of communication that was plaguing their relationship, and having the support of his mom and being out of an environment where he’s constantly harassed by his peers does wonders for Izuku’s mental health.
He’s still undead though, which presents its own unique challenges and his feelings on the situation tend to vacillate pretty drastically but mostly settle on bitter. It’s not until he accidentally cuts off his finger in a kitchen accident and finds that he can still move it that he starts trying to explore the boundaries of his quirk.
Izuku returns to clinging to his desire to be a hero, feeling that it’s the only thing he still can do since so many avenues of life are shut off to him as an unaging unchanging middleschooler. He starts to feel like he’s meant to be a hero, since nothing can really hurt him anymore now that he’s already dead.
This leads to a huge blowout with his mom, since that’s not at all a healthy attitude to take, and as much as she wants him to be happy despite his new circumstances, he starts edging dangerously close to being glad that he killed himself and that will not fly. There’s a lot of arguing and tears and it’s an eternal struggle to get Izuku to value himself and his safety in comparison to others.
It’s something that only gets resolved with the intervention of their therapist who understands both the value of Izuku pursuing goals and thinking about what he wants, as well as his mom’s concerns about his self-sacrificing and self-destructive tendencies and facilitates that understanding between them.
In the end Izuku enrolls in the UA general studies course in the hopes of being able to prove himself and transfer into heroics, with the backup plan of becoming a paramedic if that doesn’t pan out, since he has the brains and his quirk makes his body immune to diseases and completely repellent to bacteria.
He makes friends with another Hero-course hopeful, Shinsou Hitoshi, after an awkward first encounter where Izuku wanted to test if the other student’s brainwashing quirk would work on him, and evidently got a little too pushy since the response he got was a resolute “Leave me alone”. He is so busy apologizing and beating a hasty and mortified retreat that he doesn’t notice that that was Shinsou using his quirk until he’s confronted about it later.
They both end up doing well enough in the sports festival to get moved up into class 1-A, which has the unfortunate downside of putting Izuku back into contact with Bakugou. Or it would, if Bakugou was ever willing to look in his direction anymore.
The effects of Izuku’s quirk are many and varied, chiefly the ability to detach his limbs while still retaining functionality, and he no longer gets tired so endurance is never an issue. He also doesn’t have any barriers when it comes to strength and speed, kind of like a human running on pure adrenaline, which has its advantages and disadvantages. Being faster and stronger than average is good, not having the ability to feel if he’s tearing ligaments or even breaking limbs is less good.
His strategy in the second round in the sports festival is fairly reliant on his limitless endurance. His team is just him and Hatsume, who’s responsible for offense and interference while his job is simply to Never Stop Moving. It works surprisingly well, especially since Izuku’s quirk is virtually unknown and he’s easy to underestimate. They have one close call where Todoroki’s team snatches the million point headband, but Izuku is prepared for this, and no one is ever prepared to have a severed hand hit them in the face, and that creates enough of an opening for the hand in question to snag on to the headband. The hand is attached to a rope tied around Izuku’s forearm which he uses to reel it back in, headband in tow. It is a bizzare finale for the cavalry battle.
Another unique side-effect of his quirk is that since he doesn’t need to eat and his body is immune to any kind of rot, he can store food in his stomach and it will never go bad. This is not a particularly useful ability because no matter how thoroughly you explain this phenomenon to someone they’re still not going to eat food that you regurgitated for them. So Izuku stores first aid supplies and other useful knicknacks in his stomach instead. People are still pretty wary to use a pen that you regurgitated for them, but they get over that quicker.
So yeah that’s some of the convoluted and weird AU I felt like drawing. There’s more but also it’s almost two AM and I’m tired. Also I’m forcing myself to post this because I worked on it so long but I also kinda hate it? And now I can’t tell if it’s bad or that’s just my low self esteem. So here we are.
I think Nomu Izuku AUs are fun but I can’t really get into them bc I always want to skip ahead to the part where Izuku is cool and okay and cared for and just happens to be a bigass monster now.
So here is my version where Izuku was one of many children the league of villains kidnapped for use in their experiments & was one of few successful experiments to create a Nomu with its mind mostly intact. Less successful was figuring out how to control the nine-foot tall angry child who hates you so he escaped and found his way back home. There was an adjustement period but his mom was mostly just happy to get him back at all so now they’re living mostly happily although keeping his existence mostly secret to avoid the attention of the league and people who might want to run tests to figure out what Izuku’s deal is since he understandably has some trauma related to that sort of thing.
He can’t really talk particularly well on account of his vocal chords being warped making it difficult and painful to form words so he communicates mainly in writing and sign language. He still mumbles when he’s thinking out of habit but it just sounds like... noise. Really spooky low growly noise that indicates he’s thinking deeply about something.
He and his mom are pretty adapted to the changes after a while to the point where exchanges like this are common:

Honestly I have a tendancy to sort characters first and come up with justifications later but I’d say Uraraka was considered for Hufflepuff and Gryffindor but Hufflepuff won out because of her loyalty to her family and willingness to work hard, and Izuku could have gone to any house but went to Slytherin because of his drive tobecome as strong as possible to help as many people as he can and his tendancy to think around problems (while completely direguarding the rules.
Bakugou was considered for Gryffindor and Slytherin but insisted on Gryffindor, Kirishima was also a good fit for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff but Gryffindor won out.
Basically all of these kids are very brave but they also have other qualities.
I got the prompt of “sap-sucking tree vampire” and I remembered how albino plants can only survive by basically leaching off the other plants around them, so here is an albino vampire dryad.
Some of them are born this way, but they can also be created by a ritual that severs their life force from their home tree, performed out of desperation or a lust for power.
They can achieve a sort of symbiosis with other plants, caring and nurturing them as humans would in exchange for enough life force to sustain them, so it’s not uncommon to find them acting as guardians and caretakers of orchards or vast gardens. Others, however, leave large swaths of land baren and drained behind them, as they constantly wander driven by their need to consume.
There is a small cult-like organization of vampire-dryads that believe their lifestyle is one of freedom for their people, and seek out others of their kind to convert. An emissary will appear in the early morning to offer to teach a dryad the ritual to sever themselves from their home tree, and if they refuse, they will find themselves surrounded and slowly drained in the night. The emissary will return to reiterate their offer again in the morning, and every day subsequently until the victim dies, or they are desperate enough to accept.
Faced with the alternative of a slow death, even the strongest of convictions tend to waver.
