it's the summer holidays in the uk rn and there's a cost of living crisis so the government are running this thing where children get free bus travel among other things like cheaper meals some places and although this is a good start and definitely helping people I can't help but be angry that we are expected to be grateful for this when the real bare minimum should be for everybody to earn a living wage with plenty of paid time off!!! then wouldn't have to rely on programs like this to make ends meet!!

I see many posts saying things like "the people of Clacton should be ashamed of themselves," and whether that is serious or a joke doesn't matter. STOP IT.

NO, I won't have it. The people of Clacton are not at fault; they have been manipulated for decades. And I won't have that kind of hate here. You want to be angry? Be angry at the one person at fault, the guy who has made all of this happen: the architect of the suffering in the UK, Nigel Farage. Don't take it out on the Reform UK voters.

Yes, there are horrible people among them, but it's not most of them. So hold your tongue. All of you. IF they are genuine racists, fascists, homophobes, etc., etc., sure, be angry. But to say that all of Clacton is at fault here is simply not true.

The people of Clacton have been manipulated, they have been neglected by the Major parties, they are very cynical of the institutions (which is not a great sign nationally). Now are they without fault? That is not what I am saying, but have some empathy.

What Clacton needs is an information campaign. I don't want to sound patronising, but they need to be educated; they need to be shown the facts. Does that need time? Yes. Do we need to be patient? Yes. But that's how we defeat the fascists: by being what they are not—empathetic. By living by hope, not fear

In the same vein, saying the election was stolen or rigged is similar (even as a joke). If it is suspected, it will be investigated. To say so before anything official comes out—whether there is proof or not—just erodes trust in the institution.

Shoutout to this Binface graphic for being hilarious, but I feel like we should also draw attention to the other reason Farage is (hopefully!) fucked. It's emerged that he apparently didn't know resigning his seat wouldn't end the investigations, just pause them, when he forced this by-election.

What that means is he can very probably be done not only for any financial offences, but for contempt of Parliament (when you interfere with Parliamentary business or investigations- Boris Johnson was kicked out of Parliament because he did that with Partygate).

And even better, if the investigations show he could have criminal charges brought against him, the fact he did that means that they could also potentially find him guilty of perverting the course of justice (trying to sabotage a criminal investigation), which is an even more serious crime than any of the financial fraud he's probably done.

And then, even if none of that happens, he's basically Streisand effect-ed himself into oblivion. The first thing you're likely to hear now after Farage's name is 'took £5 million from a crypto billionaire and £1 million from a convicted fraudster'. And he's freely admitted he took all that money and 'can spend it all on Ferraris' if he wants to.

Even if he isn't guilty of any misconduct (which is doubtful), no one but no one has any sympathy for a bloke complaining people don't like that he hoarded £6 million from criminals in the middle of a cost of living crisis. This is his legacy now, and it's so funny.
