@riversongweek
(Ah I missed a day, didn't I. xd)
Day 7 "prompt": Free day
A scene I love where the Doctor is not around just River being clever.
@riversongweek Day 6 prompt: Unforgettable scene Still my absolute fave River scene. It's from Doom Coalition 4.
I may redraw this at some point.
@riversongweek Day 5 prompt: If I could give River a gift….
F-ING WRITING PAPER SHE CAN WASTE IN DIARY 11 !!!! ...Yeah, I'm still not over that. xD
Other than that... maybe opportunities to meet her spouse? I honestly don't think I could give her any item she can not get herself. xd (Well, mentioned writing paper aside.)
Day 4 prompt: Best quote/line
Even Alex approved of this quote when she signed it. ^^
(It's even funny when you fully know the context lol.)
@riversongweek
Day 3 prompt: Headcanon
(Does it even count as a HEADcanon, if it's popular and Moffat wrote it? xd)
@riversongweek
(I may not be able to post a lot of artwork for this one. xd Oh well.)
Day 2 prompt: Favourite outfit
@riversongweek
Day 1 prompt: For me, River Song is…
Sheer badassery and brilliance at the same time. River is not a companion, and I don't just mean it because she is the spouse of the Doctor. She has proved time and time again that she is the Doctor's equal. A great female character too, brilliant for representation. Funny as well, but not flawless, which is good, making her realistic. In short: - Brilliant professor, mostly of archaeology, but like the Doctor, she knows her way around many things, most and foremost, time. - Kickass in a fight. - The long lasting fear of not being enough for the Doctor just because the Doctor loves so many, heavily masked. - Viewing self as a much worse person than she really is
My favourite female character of the entire Whoniverse. 💕

@doctorriverweek Day 6 prompt: Archipelago
'Cause Archipelago. (If you don't know the story and would like to, get Ninth Doctor adventures: Star-Crossed from Big Finish.)

Day 6 prompt: Pamper
One Weakness
The TARDIS door flung open. "You should have seen their faces!” River Song beamed laughing as she walked into the console room. The Doctor followed her inside in silent amusement, the usually strict eyebrows hung now (relatively) relaxed, accompanied with a slight smile on his face. "’A reality bomb,’” River quoted playfully, "’can't be disabled with just a hairpin!’ he said. Well, in your reality, maybe…" She put her satchel on the console and leaned on it. Her arm twitched for just one tiny split of a second, before she faced the Doctor with excited joy. "Where to next?"
The Doctor regarded her silenty for a moment then he snapped his fingers. "There's something I've been meaning to show you," he started towards the exit of the console room leading to one of the many corridors of the vast ship, checking back on River who was staring at him, moveless. "Well?" he urged "Don't just stand there all day, come on." Curious but mostly puzzled, River followed eventually.
She found themselves entering a cozy looking room. The Doctor thrusted himself on a sofa. "What are you up to?" River asked raising an eyebrow. "Meditation!" the Doctor replied spreading his arms. "Uhm… meditation?" River asked incredulously. "Meditation! Not what most pudding brains call that - the real time lord deal! A journey inwards for a change. I can show you how to properly clear your thoughts. What do you think?" "My thoughts are fine. And dirty but that's how I like them." She said naughtily. "Oh come on just give it a go, you will see how useful it is, promise." River made a few unsure steps forward then stopped. "You want a break," she blurted.
The Doctor turned his head away pouting as someone who had been caught in the act. "Except," River continued, "I know you. You don't take breaks. You want a break on my behalf." Defeated, he looked at her. "Well you have just been chased through the universe." "So what?" River shot back annoyed. "You think I can't handle some bloodthirsty morons of a species?! I am here, aren't I?" The Doctor allowed himself a cheeky smile. "Daleks, Discordia, Cybermen... All in a day’s work for Professor River Song. No no, I found her one true weakness: a sofa."
River sighed irritated but sat next to him eventually. "Right... this is a waste of time," she remarked, crossing her arms. "Oh I see, is that what I am to you now?" the Doctor shot back pretending to be insulted. "You know what I mean!" River groaned annoyed and leaned back on the sofa with more force than necessary. After a few silent seconds she softly added, "We do have a deadline now..." The Doctor put an arm behind her back. "Doesn't everybody?" River turned her head away, but did not respond. It was the Doctor who eventually broke the silence. "Still you fear that I would see you weak somehow." That earned River's attention but she made no sound. "But really," the Doctor continued, "how could I ever see you as anything else than the strongest and most brilliant person I've ever met?" he smiled at her warmly. She watched him for a while. Soon, she returned the smile. "Still a charmer," she remarked. "You still enjoy it." She moved to rest her head on his chest, while whispering, "I still hate you... "
Whatever the Doctor's response would have been, it was interrupted by the steady sound of River's breathing. Instead he reached for the blanket on his left and carefully pulled it over her.

Day 5 prompt: Escape
River: Ehm... you do realize there is a perfectly good rope ladder right next to you? Doctor: Yes. River: Yet you are still clinging on to me. Doctor: Yes. River: Okay, as flattering as your affection towards me has been, at this point I should probably mention that I am married. ... And now you're hugging me even tighter. Any more and I might pop. Doctor: Not scientifically possible. River: Right. You know what IS scientifically possible though? Me losing my grip and both of us falling. So please do choose the ladder for now because I don't want to be responsible for your death. Again. Doctor. *River looks at the Doctor with a smile of realization and she returns it.*

Day 4 prompt: Festivities
Repost for @doctorriverweek Day 3 prompt: Sick "This... is... not your war... Leave this place..." The Doctor muttered meekly once he properly started regaining his conscience. River sighed. "Oh, at this point, there is nothing I'd want more, believe you me."
They moved on for a while then the Doctor asked expectantly, "Well?" She looked at him as if he had suggested something impossible. "Well what? I told you this VM only carries one." The Doctor shook his head. „So you're dragging me through this miserable wasteland against my will because you desperately believe that I have some kind of future I must fulfill.” „I… really shouldn’t say.” "Oh come on, we are on a battlefied where memories of entire species' can be wiped out in a blink of an eye. Indulge me.” „Fine… I know you do not regenerate here.” „Oh, no...” the Doctor responded with pretended surprise. ”What did give it away? It wasn't the regeneration inhibitor crystal stuck in my leg was it??” River groaned. „I did not mean you do not regenerate at all... I simply meant this is not how it happens.” The Doctor let out a deep sigh, shaking his head. „And so you are determined to deny me my final rest. Not sure what that makes y...” He yelped in pain as the knee on his injured leg buckled but River tightened her grip around him and stopped them both from falling. "It’s all right, I've got you." Her worried eyes caught his weary ones. "But...” the Doctor said, „you're no CIA.” She chuckled relieved and turned her attention back to the path ahead of them. „Oh, no,” she replied with a smirk „They would cramp my style.” The Doctor allowed himself a soft chuckle as well. „Yes, they have a habit of doing that, don’t they?” After another bit of silent walking he continued. „So… what then? Do you travel with… the Doctor?” „Yes... we do travel together, but we are much closer than that.” „Closer?” Ah, there they were. The familiar signs of confusion on his face. And River was in no rush to dissolve them. He gaped at her with amazement. „You mean.... you and…? But you’re…" The Doctor tripped but once again River held him tight. "You might want to watch your step instead of flirting,” she teased. „But compliment noted, thank you," she smiled at him warmly. "But if that’s the case... give me one good reason why I shouldn't make you teleport away right now," the Doctor demanded. "Okay. How does 'I see a facility ahead’ sound?” She gestured to the front. The Doctor soon followed her gaze to find a building on the horizon. „You'll be rid of me sooner than you think," River teased. The Doctor nodded. "Good." "Ah, you don't mean that." "I do mean that at least you’ll be safe.” River chuckled at the notion. "You think that's where I'm going? Somewhere safe?" "Well… safer than this rubbish piece of universal history at least." She pulled him closer to give him a kiss on his temple. „What… what was that for?” the Doctor looked away almost ashamed. „For you of course!” she smiled at him cheekily. „Okay...” she continued, „Listen. I know you are pretty stubborn about how you see yourself these days, so it’s just a reminder that you are still being loved. And that you still make the universe a better place.” „Do I really?” „Always.” The Doctor looked her in the eye for seconds, then he chuckled softly. „I really don't deserve you.”
Repost for @doctorriverweek Day 2 prompt: denial Melody Pond was gasping for air. Not just her arm, both of her legs were aching now. She slowed down her steps. She needed to stop for a bit.
There were enough free benches in the night city, the little girl sat on one to regain strength.
She knew it was only a matter of time till they find her again.
The punishment for disobedience was terrifying. But total obedience was even more terrifying.
Melody did not want to learn how to use nunchucks. Or to gut stray cats and dogs only to find the most efficient way to kill a creature.
She just wanted to be left alone with her one book on Punic Wars. Sure, Madame Kovarian only gave it to her because it focused on strategy but it featured people from Ancient Rome and that was fascinating.
It was also the only place Melody could find solace.
She pulled her legs up to rest her head on them and weep.
"Hello!"
That one word sent her terrors fleeing. Only for the source of it to give her a whole new reason for terror.
Melody moved to the end of the bench, and squeezed herself to the smallest possible size she could manage.
Standing in front of her was the Demon!
She recognized him instantly, Madame Kovarian had showed her a lot of their faces and it was clearly the one with the short brown hair, big ears that came with an almost completely black outfit, including a leather jacket.
Although despite how the faces tended to appear in Melody's nightmares, this one had no horns, or eyes burning red with fire.
In fact, his eyes were a striking blue.
"Mind if I sit?" the Demon asked casually.
„Yes, actually... there are like a million other benches that are unoccupied, go sit on one of those,” Melody thought. But she would have never dared say it.
It would risk the mission, and that would have even more painful consequences than the one on her arm and that had been throbbing for hours…
After watching the Demon for seconds she eventually shook her head.
He sat on the other end of the bench with a smile.
After several minutes of Melody taking the occasional trembling peek at the Demon who had just been chilling there like it was some peaceful summer afternoon, he eventually spoke.
"You're afraid of me. And you are clever to be." The words had no frightening manner about them, they were more like a matter of fact observation.
"There are," he continued, "loads of people out there who are not even half as nice as me. Of course... how would you know I'm nice? After all you've only got my word for it, which in the circumstances counts much less than I like. But that is inevitable, isn't it?” he asked with a slight smile.
She watched him silently. What sort of game was he playing? The Demon never said anything without a well-thought out strategy, they used words as weapons. She had been taught that very early in her life. She had to decipher it, otherwise there would be consequences...
"I'm the Doctor by the way," said the Demon. "What's your name?"
„You musn't ever give out any information about any of us” Melody remembered Madame telling her. „The Demon can use the slightest bit to track us down. And then there will be consequences.”
The Demon kept looking at her expectantly but eventually gave up with a sigh.
He leaned towards the backrest relaxing his elbows on it.
„You know when I was your age…” he chuckled. „Isn’t that funny… when grown-ups try to tell you that once they were your age… And you’re like, nah mate, you were never this young. Born as a grandpa’, that’s you,” he chuckled again.
„So anyway, when I was your… height…” he grinned „I used to run away. Oh, I ran away A LOT. Had a good pal, me. We ran away together and caused all kinds of mischief.
Then one day… I ran far… Sooo far…. I never even returned, not to stay there for good, anyway.
Seemed like the best decision at that time. Of course it’s not a decision to be taken lightly."
He nodded, his face turned grim for the first time.
"Then again, if a place gives you bruises like the one on your arm…”
Melody quickly put her arms behind her. How could he even guess all that??
„I’m sorry,” he continued. „I didn’t mean to intrude. I simply noticed.”
„I have a neat trick though that can make it go away. Wanna see?” he grinned. „I promise it’s no pills or anything you’d have to drink… all you need to do is place your hand into mine. That is, IF you are willing to trust me enough to do that. What do you say?”
There it was, an opening. The Demon held out his hand exposing his skin.
Just like the tabby cat, hours earlier… After a few gentle touches it exposed its neck…
Strike now, girl. Or there will be consequences.
She grabbed on the Demon's wrist. But her palm was no longer empty.
The Skaro fang was just slightly bigger than a coin. A dozen of tiny needles covered its surface and the entire thing was filled with poison that was deadly to anyone with regenerative abilities. It had originally been used in the Time War.
Melody dug the weapon deep into the Demon's flesh.
"Wha.." was all the time lord managed, the ending was muffled into a heavy groan.
He leaned forward, instinctively holding his left injured wrist in his right hand. A mix of black and purple started running through his arm, along his blood vessels. His breathing became heavy and drops of sweat started appearing on his forehead.
„Ooh, you’ve got… quite a… prickly handshake… has anyone… told you that before?” the Demon asked trying to smile through the pain. „You know what they… say about …people with prickly handshakes? …Come to think of it… I’m not... sure… you tell me.”
His words came slower and took a clearly much bigger effort to speak. But other than that he gave his suffering no sound.
Melody knew she should have run away. But she couldn’t. She pulled herself back to her own end of the bench while couldn’t help but watch.
In return, the Demon gazed at her while gasping for air.
„You’re still afraid,” he said after a while.
„But you’re not... afraid of.... me... What would be …the point... now?” he shrugged with a forced chuckle.
„This… this is a very… specific poison... Someone… gave it to you… didn’t they?... And told you to hurt me… with it... Otherwise they would… hurt you… and they… have done... How close… am I?”
Panic filled Melody’s mind. How could the Demon possibly know all that? She had never said a word. She knew it was forbidden. Otherwise… there would be consequences… The bruise on her arm started throbbing sharp.
"Hey... it's... okay..." the Demon continued. "I won't tell..." he smiled again, which seemed to take a bigger and bigger effort with each time.
„In fact... I can… still help you,” he added. „Myself… not so much,” he shrugged with a face as if this all just had been a moment of bad luck. ”But I can… help you.”
He held out his hand once again.
„No, wait… sorry, that’s… the poisoned hand…” he chuckled weakly. „Here.”
He offered his right hand this time. It seemed like it must have taken all of his strength to not fall off the bench with the move.
Melody hesitated in both shock and confusion.
„Come on... What do you... have to lose? I’m a… dead man... No one… will... know...”
Every fiber in her body said 'don't'. But her curiousity got the better of her.
She slowly put her weaponless hand into his.
„Good… job,” he smiled one last time trying his best to act like everything was fine.
A thin beam of bright yellow energy burst out of his hand, and rushed towards Melody’s body. She recognized it as regeneration energy, though she had never seen it used like this before. There was a cozy warmth around it. As it ran through her injured arm the bruise and the pain it had been causing were both gone.
In that moment the Demon collapsed.
Mission accomplished.
Yet Melody felt no pride, no satisfaction. Not even relief.
She killed the Demon… yet the Demon… healed her? What sort of strategy was that?
Madame Kovarian had been telling her about a lot of plans the Demon may try against her. But this… this didn’t fit anywhere. It didn’t even fit in her book about the Punic Wars.
Seconds felt like hours as she watched the body in confusion and shock.
No… something was clearly wrong about this…
Melody started searching her bag and found a similar coin shaped tool. Only this one was filled with antidote.
With tears in her eyes she pushed it into the Demon’s wrist even deeper, than before.
His body twitched. A light blue colour started moving along the blood vessels that had been turned to black before, and it left the arm in its natural colour in its wake.
Once the second fang was emptied Melody removed it and ran.
No one could ever know about the events of that night. Not even herself.
She had to dig the memories so deep that even she would forget, so that Madame Kovarian would not be able to get them out of her. Failing the one mission Melody had would have no doubt dire consequences... ............
„Mate… mate… you ok?”
The voice of a man made the Doctor slowly open his eyes. He groggily sat up on what seemed to be a bench.
„Whoah” the man continued. ”Whatever you had last night sure had a kick, didn’t it?” the man chuckled.
After receiving no proper response, he added more seriously:
„Should I call an ambulance?”
That finally brought the time lord back to his senses.
„No… no… that’s the last thing I need. I already feel like I’ve just regenerated… Wait… have I regenerated? What do I look like?” he asked staring deeply at the man. Who started backing away slowly.
”Wait, never mind, "the Doctor continued. "That wouldn’t help… I wouldn’t know what I looked like yesterday anyway. …Am I still a man with Northern accent? I still sound like that… I think...”
At this point the Doctor was alone.
„A kick…. Yes….” he muttered, thinking.
Vague memory shreds appeared before his eyes. There was… a child? But he couldn’t put together any image what they may have looked like. Nor a name.
He instinctively looked around but it would have been impossible to find anyone in the morning crowd. If they were even still nearby… and they probably weren’t.
He soniced the air for any trace of anything non-local, but to no avail.
With a deep sigh he scratched a faint itch on his wrist and set off towards the TARDIS. All he could do now is hope that if the child needed him, they would somehow find him again…
