What is System Mapping for DID/OSDD and how can it be done?
Check out our new video!
Dissociated states in DID
DIDās a lot easier to explain in pictures, at least for me. See, when you first start learning, you think youāre dealing with something like this:
The inner circles are dissociative parts. Whoeverās holding the star is at the front, in the driverās seat, running the show.
I like to think that the hosts job is a bit more like this: youāre holding the star, but youāre trying to keep communications open with everybody:
Thing is, itās called a dissociative disorder for a reason. Being inside the circle represents being present. As a trauma survivor, your brain has learned to send parts outside the circle as a defense mechanism. Parts can be mentally stuck in the past, depersonalized, derealized, ātriggered outā, etc, pushing their consciousness away from the present. Thatās the world outside the circle.
Even if you feel stable and grounded, connecting to a part that overlaps with the circle can be weird. You can feel their dissociative symptoms but not necessarily understand where itās coming from, or why.Ā Ā
If youāre still following along, letās get real. The idea of such solid boundaries and fixed positions is unrealistic. It makes a good movie plot.Ā
For me, daily life with DID is a lot more like this:
With a few elements I canāt draw:
From hour to hour (or even minute to minute) the star flows between parts. Those switches can be subtle or noticable, depending on the context.Ā
Some parts feel like theyāre way in the back watching, while others feel like theyāre gone. In this scenario, Iām not able to access redās memories or skills but I do know she exists.Ā
Parts overlap.Ā āMixedā is the term my therapist uses.
The circles - all of them - are moving. They yo-yo in and out, or drift around. The overlaps shift too.
I didnāt draw it, but when Nick takes the wheel, his circle tends to squeeze us out by accident. (Weāre working on it).
Thereās also the case of unknown parts, chilling outside the circle completely:
This might happen to a part due to things like stress or exhaustion. The part still exists and it can be partially or completely unaware of whatās going on.Ā
This represents a dissociative fugue:
A part outside the circle takes executive control, leaving the others with time loss and amnesia. The inner parts experience this as a complete or partial blackout.
Finally, this is my best guest atĀ āFeelingĀ Swirlyā:
It happens in the mornings, under stress, when Iām high, and in therapy.Ā
Anyway, thatās the model, and I find it pretty flexible. We use it when weāre reflecting on memories, thoughts, and emotions, trying to figure out wtf happened. There are ugly circles all over our journals, and itās especially helpful in therapy.
How do you folks model your experience of dissociated states? Does this make any sense at all?Ā
No art critiques please, I was aiming for clear rather than pretty ;)
You have the right, especially in multiple-specific communities, to talk about your multiplicity and any/all aspects relating to it.
No, that doesnāt always mean you safely can, or that itās a good idea. But you still have the right to, if you choose to do so. Many singlets talk about their livesā likes, dislikes, hobbies, work, the people they are dating, etc. Multiplicity is part of your life/lives. If youāre part of a system and you want to talk about it, you are allowed to do so. Whether itās something serious, or whether So And So did something really funny today and you just want to laugh about it, itās okay. Really.
Yes, discretion is useful, just as it is also useful to non-multiples. Weāre not saying to just run out into the street and open up to strangers about this stuff, because that can be dangerous to you. But among friends, on plural-friendly servers, on your OWN BLOG for crying out loud, you are NOT under a gag-order. Talking about this part of your life/lives doesnāt make you an āattention seekerā or āfakerā, even if you talk about it a lot. It makes you, gasp, a person with something you want to talk about. Something that might just be important to you.
And thatās not just okayā thatās awesome.
(Remastered from our old blog.)
GOSH I hadnāt realized just how unused this thing is lately to the point where thereās absolutely no coherent roster or list of what tumblrs we use. Updated our DW one and added the link to the description (also here it is!)

why is the snow leopard āounceā
Ounce is the traditional name for the snow leopard. Although not really in common use anymore it is still an acceptable alternative name for the species.Ā
I assume since āsnow leopardā wouldnāt have fitted into the space it made sense for the person who made it to use ounce instead.Ā

Systems can go through changes, and itās a normal part of being a system. Members grow old, change roles, change appearance, and can even change fronting habits.
Realized we need to actually make a roster for this blog again so people actually know what sideblogs are connected to the same physical body, but who knows when thatll be a thing. These are the blogs we use these days
@lalondeproblems - Main blog. Mostly cultivated by Consensus Kit (all Kits, Riley, Tez, Buffy, Kaylee, George) or posts we're arguing over too much to claim for a sideblog
@komaedastuck* - Sideblog for The Kits when they get stressed by the amount of followers on main and to help figure out the Kitbot/JaspRoseKit binary
@idkmyguy* - riley
@sprungled - silas
@paradiggum* -kaylee
@lesbiangeorgeweasley - George (kin with a different fictional George)
@l1z4rd - Tez
@sprycorpse - Buffy
@intolerablepedant -Rose (sleeš ±ļøy) and sometimes things we want her to see
@lilianaofthedankrealms - Blog for Lili to post things herself, and the rest of us to dump things about her and the web of insiders/littles she and Rose seem to be the gateway to
*We're also figuring out someone who's been hiding in plain sight in our front mechanics, who so far we can't actually talk TO productively, and she doesn't like to type. We've been calling her Blanche (shes had a lot of names over the years though) and content to do with her will go here or on these blogs

this post is a great honor to me
