Sure, relationships typically start with a honeymoon phase that then grows into something deeper but a bit more mellow if things work out, but it’s depressing as fuck that this has turned into a really, really common script for straight relationships that says it’s totally normal and inevitable for dudes to just become more and more emotionally checked out of the relationship, and leave it to their girlfriend/wife to perform if she wants to get even a crumb of affection from him. I’m so fucking tired of seeing women constantly being taught that decades of emotional neglect is just our lot in life.

what “getting out of the honeymoon phase” should mean: you aren’t joined at the hip anymore and can spend time apart, but you still greatly enjoy eachother’s company and deliberately make time to be together. you’re not just a unit, you’re a matched set (like, you’re susan and bob rather than susanandbob). you start to see eachother’s flaws and don’t put eachother on a pedestal but instead love eachother as human beings, flaws and all.

what it should NOT mean: you barely talk anymore. you feel like two completely different people, tied together by a frayed thread. you’re annoyed by eachother’s flaws and don’t like to be around eachother

similarly: “relationships are hard, they take a lot of work” means that cooperation on a daily basis in both the practical and emotional realms takes conscious effort. you can’t coast on those honeymoon feelings forever, and you aren’t psychic, so you have to pay attention and communicate so you can honor each other’s wants and needs.

it should not mean that you’re fighting every two days or walking on eggshells to avoid the anger of an unreasonable partner or breaking your back trying to get the slightest sign of affection or respect from someone who’s checked out and doesn’t care about you.

Fire Emblem Three Houses

I just got Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I’m super hyped, I love the series and I’ve loved every single Fire Emblem game that I’ve ever played; I haven’t ever really been disappointed with anything that they’ve ever done. I was looking into support conversations (Because to be honest I basically play this game as a dating simulation with fighting as a fun side-bit.) And I noticed that for a M/M protagonist you get three potential interests, of which the characters seem to have weak plot relevance. (And I could be wrong, you never know.) While I don’t know about the content of these relationships, it’s a bit of a slap to the face and here’s why; a W/W protagonist has the option of five relationships, three of which are in your party (one is a house leader) and all five give a sense that they’ll have quite a bit of plot relevance. I’m super excited for those who do pursue W/W relationships in these games because you have some awesome solid choices! And I don’t want to give the impression that this is at all a scenario where I’m complaining because of the fact that you have more individuals to choose from, or their possible content. This is simply a view of how I’m perceiving relationships that pertain to my style of play through. However, as someone who pursues a M/M relationship when I play through games the fact that this title doesn’t even have a house leader to choose from feels almost negligent. Many thought that Claude would be available to romance as a male character, which he isn’t. And this isn’t like a Mass Effect Andromeda situation where the coding for Jaal to be romanced by a male Ryder was there and not implemented, because as far as we currently know there isn’t such information within the game regarding Claude. This is frustrating mostly because (And this is my personal opinion) it feels like who ever we chose isn’t really going to matter, as they’re all side characters. Does that mean I’m not gonna play the game? No. Does it mean I’m going to not enjoy the game? Probably not. All of this has just been to say that it’s 2019, and it’s a bit silly at this point in time, in this type of market to do something that feels like they may not really care about how certain individuals are represented within their game.

Except, I spoiled myself on one of the m/m options, and found out it doesn’t even turn out to be a same-sex pairing in the end. Somehow, by choosing this guy as your male’s love interest, your protagonist ends up in a heterosexual relationship with a random NPC female. So it’s like... a bait x switch. For one or THREE options... #AreYouKiddingMe?!

I get that just because Claude is super flirty with everyone and super pretty doesn’t automatically make him bi or gay. But like... it literally would’ve shocked NO ONE, and instead made a TON of people happy to have that option...

As OP said - will I still play, and likely enjoy, this game? Sure. But it also sucks that I haven’t been able to start because I don’t know whether to pick Female Byleth for a romance option I want the Male Byleth I originally wanted and planned for...

this movie is literally about an attractive woman who loves to party having to prove over and over again that she’s also intelligent and hard-working to those who judge her based on her looks (who also empowers and fights for other women, and fosters unlikely friendships instead of engaging in girl hate) and if you don’t think that’s some great feminist shit then I don’t know what your problem is

The movie’s director made fun of Reese Witherspoon for taking the part too seriously. He was trying to make a silly movie where you laughed at the sorority girl

Reese’s co-stars have said her hard work inspired them to play their parts with more focus too. This is one instance where a lead actor actually should get credit for the movie being as iconic as it is. If everyone had followed the director’s vision this would have been another forgettable college comedy
