Gun Control

What has this country come to? There has been another shooting in America and it seems we are just living day to day and it has become just a part of life. It doesn’t surprise me now. I’ve gone from “OMG!” to “again...really” Which is so horrible to say but at this point its part of daily life in the US. It shouldn’t be like that at all. Where is our gun control? 

Our logical gun control because I understand those second amendment activists and I as a citizen should have the right to have a gun in case of a situation that the police or official is out of reach yet all you need is one bullet. One bullet is all you need to hurt and kill  human being. So why do certain Americans want to be able to buy and collect fully automatic fire-arms. If collecting guns is one of your interests Im sorry but something isn’t right. Hunters say its for sport which i understand but why do you have a need to collect a whole range of guns when one is all you need. Guns are such a touchy subject but know the gravity of a gun and all the damage they could do in the wrong hands. All the damage guns have done in America in recent years. Not only mass shootings but all the instances of police brutality all those children and innocent people killed because a cop instantly drew a gun.

I am so tired of hearing of people dying. All the children of Sandy Hook murdered at school, a place every kid should feel safe. All the LGBTQ+ citizens who lost their lives in a place where they felt free to be themselves in a country where they are demeaned and their right to life is threatened. The innocent lives of those taken by a mad man while they worshipped God in a place of worship. All those concert goers just having a good time. Its hard to feel like the world is a safe place. I know that we should never feel too sure as evil can be found anywhere but at what point do people feel scared of leaving their house? Scared of letting their children go to school because they are afraid that they won’t come home? Afraid to come out and be who you are for the thought of being targeted? Scared to take one step outside your home? We must fight this head on now before  gun violence becomes fully normalized in our society.

Republicans I plead to you, OPEN YOUR EYES. Eat your pride and do the right thing. Giving condolences and your thoughts and prayers when things like this happen aren’t going to stop this. We need to reevaluate gun control in America now and get some common sense laws passed. Did you know that when a law was advised that wouldn’t allow people who were on the no-fly list from purchasing and obtaining a gun it was denied. So people on a TERRORIST WATCH LIST can buy and purchase fire arms in America but they are not allowed to fly? Where is the logic in that? The gunman of the Orlando shooting was on the no fly list yet was able to purchase a firearm. A firearm he used to kill 50 innocent people. That should be enough to warrant this new rule yet republicans never want to pass it. Why? the NRA os one of their monetary supporters and they would never turn their backs on the ones who fund them and their members.

Conservatives like to say that we Democrats use these incidents to push our agenda and that it is a matter of mental health in our country to that I say yes. We want a Americans to be safe and gun violence in America is outrageous and is the leading the percentage of gun violence in the world. We see this as an issue and therefore is part our agenda. No democrat wants you to lose your right to have a weapon to defend yourself yet these second amendment defenders fail to see that the second amendment spoke about firearms that couldn’t carry fire dozens of bullets within a matter of seconds. Firearms aren't toys for you to collect. They are weapons and we need to make sure that those who obtain these firearms are capable and in the right minds. Every gun owner should be registered and undergo mental assessments every year not just at the moment of purchasing the weapon. Certain firearms should be illegal to purchase. I also agree that mental health should be talked about more in this country and we should do more about it nobody denies that but guns need to be controlled now.

No matter whether you agree or disagree I hope you agree in that I don’t want to wake up to more news of shootings n our country. No more innocent people dying at the hands of evil people. I want to live in a US where gun violence isn’t one of the leading causes of death. Lets work together to build America into a safe place.

Alone with my thoughts

It’s your boy, back again blogging his problems in the best place to do so: the internet. Everyone says that you shouldn’t say or do anything on the internet but tbh I like the fact that I can vent how I’m feeling to the internet  and no one even has to read it. The internet is like that friend you can just vent to without fear because A. it’s your tumblr and the chances of someone reading it are slim to none but at this point I don’t care about the repercussions and B. Maybe someone will come across it and relate. It helps to know that there are others who feel the same way as you. So here goes..

I am having internal struggles right now. I took a year off of school to come help my parents because they needed financial support. Sadly I have the worst luck when it comes to getting a job. At this point I feel so discouraged because it feels like nobody wants me. Even while i was in college for 2 years. YES. TWO YEARS. I applied to work everywhere even at McDonalds and never ever received a call back for an interview. I looked online to see what else i could do other than send in my application. I read that it is good to call the place where you applied two weeks after sending in the application to follow up and so from then on I always call to follow up on my application and I always get the same response which always seems to go along the lines of: “Yes we are currently looking at applications and we will call you if we are interested.”  Then two weeks later i get the email saying that my application has expired and so I retry. I walk in to the establishment and talk to employees and managers yet never get a phone call. My friend applied to work at a Starbucks. a week later he receives a call for an interview and another week later he started his first day at Starbucks. I was so happy for him but envious because why can’t getting a job as easy as that. I have to do extra to hear nothing in return and he never called once. Within days he got a call. So what am I doing with my life. I came to help my family financially and i can’t do that if I am unemployed. So what do I do? I go with my little sister to apply to work at a factory that packages pears. They tell us they need people so i say what the hell. So i go to work there and I instantly HATE it.

In school you learn that some things just aren’t for everyone. Some of us are good at math and others excel at sports. I was a brainiac in high school and was good at technology. I know how to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I am knowledgeable at Microsoft Office and avid at working with Apple product and most technology. Yet here I am doing what? Stacking boxes of pears. Of course I stick through it because my family needs the money. I think about of all my people who stuck through jobs that they didn’t like to feed and support their families. Everyday I would go to work and tough it out for 9hrs. So i worked in this factory for two months and then right before the season ended I hurt myself. While carrying boxes I ducked underneath an assembly line to get out of the way of the ladies coming towards me and when I ducked I felt a sharp pain in my lower back. Needless to say I was out of commission for a month. meanwhile i applied to everywhere that I saw a Help Wanted sign that I could find that WASN’T a factory. What I learned from working in a factory is that I didn’t like it. I was desperate for anything else but of course got nothing. Desperate for work I went to a staffing agency hoping they could get me a job. Sadly while I am at the agency I come to the realization that all they do is get you work in factories. Yet of course by the second day of joining them, i get a job offer for a place called Schafer Systems where they make the plastic garbage bins. The woman from the staffing agency tells me that i will be working a 12hr shift. Sadly, my family needs the money I agree and I tell myself its just like the other job and that I can stick to it and just ride this wave. Boy was I wrong.

I go to my first day and they start me off trimming of the excess plastic off the lids and i think to myself this is boring but easy. But the guy training me tells me that we move stations every two hours which means I wouldn’t be at this station the whole day. Sadly he was right so after the two hours and a 15min break we went to “station two” where i had to trim the excess plastic off of the body of the trash can. The machine that made the bodies spit out the three bodies per minute and this station had a little extra steps and believe me when I say i was feeling the pressure. The guy training me left me alone the whole time except for when he would come by and tell me I had to speed it up as the machine making station where the bodies came out from had at least five cans backed up waiting for me to do what had to be done. Needless to say I wanted to kill myself. By the time those two hours were done and we got our break my body was feeling it. My arms were tired from stacking all those bins and all the rapid movements I had to make. The guy training telling me that that station wasn’t the hardest and that the next machine is the hardest. Dreading it I tell myself just push through the pain its part of the job. So we go to station three and he was not kidding. This station was everything i had been doing with bigger bins, ten more steps, and the machine was faster. Mybody was in extreme pain. My wrists and arms felt heavy and wanted to stop yet for a second i stopped to rest four bins were spit out and the more backed up I would be. The guy training stood there telling me to speed it up and to speed it up. I couldn’t take it so when the two hours, which felt like ten, were up i wanted to lay on the ground and die. I felt that pain i had in my lower back before as if i was relapsing and I wanted to cry. This job was too fast paced and it had only been a little over six hours meaning i had six more hours. I decided I had to leave. At that moment the fact my family needed the money didn’t come across my mind. I had to get out of there my body was telling me i couldn’t anymore. So i made an excuse about a family emergency i clocked out and called my dad to pick me up. Of course my dad never answers his phone so i have to walk home at about 3AM and the walk home is about one hour as i had walked to work as well. I started walking and my feet were killing. I guess my feet grew some more because my feet always were smushed in my Nikes even though when I bought them they fit perfectly and since all the money i made went straight to my family i couldn’t buy new ones. 

I walked home barefoot preferring to step on everything than to feel that pain in my feet. Walking in the darkness out in the country barefoot i thought to myself: “Its just me and my thoughts... what a dangerous thing.” What went through my head as I walked with an aching body was that what was going to happen to me. I thought that the only jobs that respond are factory or industrial jobs. Jobs that are so physically demanding that I hate myself. Talking to the guys at the job i learned that most of them went to the community college and came to work to pay for a four year and ended up getting stick working and never went back to school. I thought that if maybe that was going to happen to me. I told myself that I would only take a year off of school but at the rate things are going I wonder if I would get stuck helping my parents. I also wonder why is it that I never get most of the jobs that I want and apply for. I really wanted to get hired by Starbucks because I could work for a year and transfer to another Starbucks in LA and therefore have a job set for when I return to LA. Yet not a word and when i called to follow up the first time the manager was not present and the second time i got the same message ai always got about waiting for a call. I think will i be stuck working in factories and assembly lines for the rest of my life. I think will i work until my body completely breaks. I’ve felt this much pain before when I worked in the pear factory. I hate this kind of work and I don’t want to do this anymore but my family needs the money so what do I do? At this point I just feel so bad at myself but what do i DO? I need a miracle.
