I’ve decided I won’t be doing Inktober this year. Between working full time and having done Inktober three years in a row, I just have no inclination to do it right now. Plus I haven’t really drawn much of anything this year, so I’m out of practice. But here’s a weird vampire for you!

I’m trying to get back to my cartooning roots, so I’ve started a project which is, essentially, a group portrait of my close friends and their significant others. Apparently that totals up to 28 people, so I’m getting a lot of practice in. I’ve finished outlining 21 of them, and I thought I’d put this helpful guide online to share my process.

This is the first illustration I’ve made with the updated version of Manga Studio. Everything is different, it’s taking some getting used to.

Anyways, this image is based on a conversation about an episode of Star Trek TNG and a miscommunication.

Inktober 31st

Our final Inktober monster was originally drawn 25 years ago, by me! I was eight, and clearly did not have a keen grasp of what a werewolf was, nor how to spell it.

Inktober 30th

A ringer! Someone is trying to hustle me in my own gosh-dang art project! Although, in fairness, I was fully aware that my Dad went to art school and worked in ad graphics for 20+ years. With this one, I thought I’d just colour my Dad’s monster and add in the other half of this close encounter.
