My temperature take is that none of the foxes are actually autistic, the ones who seem like they would be are just developmentally traumatized.

Kevin day isn’t autistic. He had no paternal attachment figure, his mom died when he was 9, and then he grew up in a hyper codependent cult surrounded by abusive people. That has structural and developmental impacts on the brain that can look alot like autism, but it isn’t.

Andrew Minyard is not autistic. Who knows how Tildas pregnancy was, but she definitely didn’t bond with Andrew, probably not Aaron either, in the healthy attachment way babies need to bond with their mother. Andrew had no paternal attachment figures, and also no stable home or environment, he moved around from one abusive situation to the next. That’s a recipe for fucked up brain development.

Neil isn’t autistic either. His dad is a serial killer, definitely no healthy paternal attachment there. I am positive Mary’s pregnancy was incredibly stressful, and when you’re in the womb, and after birth, your mom’s nervous system is your nervous system. If your mom is traumatized and stressed while she’s pregnant with you, your nervous system is already activated. You’re in fight or flight before birth. So Neil’s got that going for him, and then their attachment was definitely codependent and incredibly unhealthy. They went on the run when he was 10, then in an even more concrete way he was in constant fight or flight. Let’s not forget that he was isolated from literally any other person ever, witnessed and experienced extreme violence, abuse, etc, his brain development was absolutely cooked. But not in an autistic way.

I could go through all of them, but I think yall get the picture. I understand that autism and complex/developmental trauma can be comorbid, and often are. Myself, as an example, I got both of those. But I really don’t that in any of the foxes, even the ones more widely headcanoned as on the spectrum. I can definitely see arguments for any one of them, but none that really sway me from this original opinion.
